he should of gone straight it's the best" personally i would of stalled more and 360'd on takeoff before pulling into an insane straight hand tube" totally radical. free willy man
@MrTacolover99 Alright bro than it was 60 degrees Mavs doesn't warm up. I used to surf Norcal when it was 53 and I just remember everytime I would get in the water and paddle out and duck dive my head would just start throbbing until my body warmed up a little. Hardcore. Hard to believe some dudes surf up in Alaska and back east in Maine when it's snowing.
Hahaha... so true- get that season opener 'first asskicking' out of the way and out of the back of your mind!
I've got vid of Clark (or it might be Jetlag) in early 90s on a 68 second walled up freight train. If you're getting mushy waves at Mavs, either your beach or wave selection needs honing. There's plenty of places within a few miles that are firing during the 10'@13sec to 13'@17sec window when Mavs is just awakening. Hit it on a 25'@20sec swell and let us know how mushy you found it...
i think that mavs is over rated. there are so many more dangerous waves than mavs. mavs is just a mushy big wave all you do is bottom turn and pull up. :p
@dukeflyingcow I remember the day I got the news... I went to o'neils on Pacific ave. in SC and talked to Wally about it, the vibe was really heavy for several days after that. We lost a legend, everyone was crying at the Year of the Drag-In 2 premier... Still one of the biggest losses to not only Santa Cruz, but the entire surf community. I'm not claiming I knew him personally but I was about 16 or so at the time and I really looked up to him and barney. Just had to comment on the memory. RIP
Are you guys leaving "Waimea" out of the conversation for any good reason,or did it just slip your minds..Still one of the heaviest drops known to man....And on out of control days outside Log Cabinz has a pretty interesting drop itself.!!!!
Aileens looks huge judging from the recent pics. posted. But Mavericks is definetly one of the heaviest. Maybe Jaws, and obviously Teahupoo, albeit a different kind of wave altogether. This is medium sized Mavs in the video.
Ireland...have you ever in your life looked at a map and seen the size of the Pacific? Good luck to you, but seriously, bro, Aleutian Juice is something you cannot describe to a fellow who hasn't taken it on the head.

You have to have some HUGE shrunken up balls to ride that in 50 degree water. That water when you get your head wet makes it THROB.

Shrimpygeorge, i'm sure Mavericks mush wouldn't hold you down at all if you got caught inside. You must charge as hard as Laird Hamilton.

Well yeah, this is it on an opening season swell. I wouldn't call Mav's on a big west swell "mushy" lol

For Mavericks that gets a 2 out of 10. It's mushing right out after the drop. Like as if I'm supposed to believe that's fun?
