@Roddykay That depends on how many times the E string wraps around the peg. If it is less or more than two or three times, then your probably going to get a rattling noise.

after about an hour of alternating between F and B major chords i finally can consistently strum out an F bar chord ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh YEAAAAAAAAAAH... unfortunately i felt like so much of a boss i stood up and viking-axe swung my guitar slamming it into the ground several times, in hindsight smashing my guitar seems regrettable, but hey on the road to being a rockstar theirs several milestones you must pass all of which i strongly believe should be celebrated by destroying your instrument :)

Here's some advice for beginners: Sit down on the couch with your guitar and watch T.V. Don't sit alone in your room in silence trying to get this chord. You'll get bored and you'll then get angry. You can watch television and practice the chord because you're not learning how to make music with the chord yet. You are just learning how to train your hand until the chord becomes more comfortable. It just takes time. It's similar to someone who lifts weights while watching T.V. Same thing.

I've been practicing this for about 4 months. Sure i call play a barre F but i can't get the b string clean all the time. After about 100 or so chord changes the b string mutes. Its so bloody annoying. But i'm persevering with it because i love to suffer. It will feel good when i nail it real cool.

Very easy after a week of practice. No excuse for not learning F. You can use it all up and down the neck for different chords and licks. If you don't learn F, you cheat yourself out of a lot of music.

Well after paying attention to the tip about which part of the index finger to press I found that there is an odd angle my hand sits at which lets me do the big F chord with relative ease, its till slow but the key was to place the 4th, 3rd & 2nd first then roll the first finger until it rest on the strings on it hard edge and it comes out fine with no real pain.

Good luck & don't forget there is more to life than groaning about small challenges and swearing.

this is the first time I was able to get the entire 6 strings actually sound like an f cord. before that I was just sticking to the weak version, but it seems I've been placing my index finger terribly wrong :/ that's what you get from trying to learn by reading alone :P oh its steal weak and muted, gotta get used to finger placement and pressure, but hey - progress. (practice takes more then 3 tries btw)

Got the biggie clear on the 3rd try. Unfortunately went to the bathroom and wasn't able to get E (high) & B strings anywhere near clear anymore :( Have been struggling for an hour now and it feels like sadomasochism but at least I know it's possible. Probably after a week Big F will be effortless (only changes will be the new pain). At least S & M are quite nice ^ ^
