I first heard Whitney live in Boston in the mid 80's @ The Boston Music Hall, now The Wang Performance Center For The Arts. She was all but 20 years old and sang this very song in front of a full orchestra, and was flawless & certainly above reproach. This memory has been etched in my mind ever since. We know its sad that she hasn't been able to maintain her vocal range, unlike some like Donna Summer, who is older and still has the range she had when she was in her twenties. God Bless WH!

Donna Summer wasn't a worldwide superstar who did six world tours, several regional tours, and who had to sing powerhouse ballads thousands of times. Let's compare apples to apples. Don't nobody in Brunei or Brazil or Japan, know who Donna Summer is. They know Whitney. If Donna's career were anywhere near as big as Whitney's, she'd sound a mess now.

She's in her mid 40's, & she can't sing through hardly any songs today. Unfortunately, Whitney will never have that again, because of what she chose to do in her life. If you want a boring, typical studio performance sung straight through with no improvisation or ad libs, go listen to any artist who's came out in the last decade. This live vocal was much better than the original and it's why Arista included it on the special 25th anniversary re-release of her first album.

Too bad. They should have put the performance she did on The Greatest Love Tour in 1986 on the 25th anniversary cd. Hands down the best version i've ever heard her do. Sounded very different from all of the other versions i've seen.
