While I do not agree with your outlook, I do agree that the US does have a knack for imposing their beliefs and what-not on other nations (i.e. Vietnam, Iraq) and fighting wars they are not really a part of. These soldiers have every right to protect themselves from those that want to harm them. Warning shots are better then no warning shots.

Trust me we had orders as stupid, and unlike the movies..we would laugh and tell them to go. We would walk through hell to fight but not for spark-plugs
Also, Solution #1 isn't always on target. Another truck could have had explosives that the dog couldn't pick up/
