Haha, I love seeing all of these comments saying how bad of a commander Godfather was, when their only leadership experience is barking orders over their mics in Call of Duty; compared to an experienced, Force Recon LtCol. in the Marines, seriously just shut up you 14 year old morons.
I am not a trained soldier nor do i know about tactics, but from what it seems, he always gave atleast 3 or more very strong reasons for his actions. He appears to of thought each of his orders through thouroughly
I served with the REAL Stephen Ferrando when he was a 2nd Lieutenant. I was his radio operator in Alpha Co. 1/9, 3rd Platoon, his first unit command. To this day I can say that I would have followed him into the gates of Hell. Best leader and one of the best men I have ever known. This story was a hatchet job.
One of my favorite characters from the show. Yes, he had his ups and downs, but for me what really redeemed him was the last line he spoke to the reporter: "So what happens to my command if I respond to every complaint made ?"
To me, this series showed me, how "politicized" even the marines can be. It shows inept marine officers screwing up ( both captain amarica and encino man). Who are both captains cause daddy was some hot shot general. And shows how much of a kiss ass godfather was. Who just wanted to earn his full bird by calling in fucked up air support to get "good effect on target". Just like everything else on this earth. Politics is politics.
@quillo31 Send me a message and I'll send you to a place you can download each episode for FREE no gay ass surveys or shit like that. I'll be lookin out.
just curious, I just started the show but was there a reason for why the actor spoke like that with a loud hoarse whisper? haven't read the book either so I'm not sure and i'd appreciate it.
More like thanks to any and everything that kills us: alcohol, drug, accidents, natural disasters... and of course, war. But I appreciate war in the course that it promotes the technological advancements, and cultural fusion of civilizations more than population control. And a good general will promotes those advancements by tactics and implications, applications. It takes a right mind to understood warfare and all that accompany with it. I'm sure general "Godfather" is one of them.
@artacania That's exactly why GodFather was a dumbass. He rushed the war way too much, and skipped a lot of guys that could have posed a danger to marines behind first recon. Godfather was a terrible Bat Com.
@endlives you have to admit if there was no war everyone would be in fodd desperation starvation and polution. in other words slow death. with wars we reduce population and let the few have a good live with plenty of food while the soldiers are having fun in the battlefield. i say its a win win situation. now im being sarcastic dont hate

After reading Evan Wright's book and watching the film, I have to say, I admire Lt. Col. Ferrando. He seems to be a very brainy guy with a strong conscience. If he had any weakness, it was in his lack of a bedside manner. In other words, he was the Pope Benedict of infantry officers.
i got to work with some guys from the First Recon Bt. when i was at Devil Pups, they where some badass SOBs we got to work with the rubber boats, and run this badass freaking muddy ass water filled obstacle course thing it was awsome.
I think Lt. Colonel Ferrando got kind of a bad rap given how he was portrayed, but I think he did a damn good job with what he had to work with. His unit was operating way outside of it's SOP with very little training assaulting with Humvees, and he was being pushed to move very fast through hostile territory. Despite all this, his battalion achieved their opjectives with only 7 casualties and no fatalities. If that wasn't verified, I'd call it propaganda. Godfather knew his shit.
@HateMachine103190 I disagree. I think they tried to show his character in a good light.. I think he was supposed to be someone who his men would follow into hell so he didn't always have time to be mr nice guy but he needed to do so to inspire them. Similarly with the gunnery sgt? who always shouted at everyone about grooming standards. He clearly only does it to encourage solidarity amongst them and isn't really the asshole people think he is at the beginning.
@HateMachine103190 That's true. The film did him justice. When it showed him watching, terrified, as General Mattis tore Colonel Dowdy a new asshole, it revealed his real motive. It wasn't to become a full colonel; it was not to get sacked.
Could've been a German panzer commander in WW2. "The violence of action is to our advantage." Wouldn't surprise me if that's Guderian speaking there. (Or maybe DeGaulle?)

This guy is a jackass. He has a man like captian America under him, and does not ship his retarded ass home. Therefore, he is ALSO retarded. US Marine officers are simply PATHETIC. I always heard from Army men, that Marines are idiots, and never believed it, UNTIL this series came out. Those Army guys were right all along.
Yeah, let's ship a company C.O. home in the middle of an invasion and bring somebody else in.The military (all branches)are full of idiots. Sometimes you have to deal with them.Join and you might find this out for yourself instead of regurgitating what your friends and HBO tells you.
the show is certainly not boring. but then those who think it is probably think the same about the wire, the sopranos and deadwood too. no attention span people these days. how can they ever expect to sit through citizen kane if they think this is boring? or once upon a time in the west. i feel sorry for these people with no attention span.
yeah one of the best things about the sopranos for me was just the anticapation of something happening, that was more entertaning then whn someone actually was killed or shot. but yeah people now a days love brainless action movies were people can outrun machine guns and flip cars.
Hell no they didnt. Its the battle cry of the Continental army during the Revolutionary war.Its the American version of the British "Hazzah!". Now each branch has its own interpretation of the battle cry.
correct. i'm in the army now, but was in air force ROTC in college. these jackasses that look stuff up on the internet think they know it all, don't they? haha
Imo BoB was a really good mini series and showed very well how the WW2 war was. As for now its two different fight types in WW2 it was close quarter fighting in france and so on. And the BoB team made that pretty good. In Generation kill the figthing is pretty much different as the tactics is to do as much damage as possible without getting hurt that means you have to keep the distance to the insurgents so you can lay accurate fire with scopes as most AK's in the middle east does not have scopes
These two wars is totally different. WW2 was close quarter figthing and charge with what you got , now its more try to keep as many guys alive as possible. Therefore BoB was what you may call hollywood thingy, but I disagree, they just made the mini series as it was in the WW2. But in the iraq and A-stan wars teh tactics used is completely different in many ways. Generation kill is a good serie and may seem like a less hollywood thing, but I think they both image the two wars very good.
Haha, I love seeing all of these comments saying how bad of a commander Godfather was, when their only leadership experience is barking orders over their mics in Call of Duty; compared to an experienced, Force Recon LtCol. in the Marines, seriously just shut up you 14 year old morons.

The US spends on its military more than the Top 15 countries in the World!
(SIPRI) almost $1.7 trillion total spent on defense in 2010.
USA $700B, 42% of total, representing 4.8% of GDP.
2nd place China only spent $119B, just 7.3% of total, only 2.1% of GDP
then UK, France, Russia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, India. Italy round out the Top 10.

the retards get there via politics. The only reason cpt. america was there was because he had an uncle or something who was a colonel.

Yeah, let's ship a company C.O. home in the middle of an invasion and bring somebody else in.The military (all branches)are full of idiots. Sometimes you have to deal with them.Join and you might find this out for yourself instead of regurgitating what your friends and HBO tells you.

the show is certainly not boring. but then those who think it is probably think the same about the wire, the sopranos and deadwood too. no attention span people these days. how can they ever expect to sit through citizen kane if they think this is boring? or once upon a time in the west. i feel sorry for these people with no attention span.

man, thats exactly what I'm thinking about many people...no appreciation for things like that...
KingNothing07 2 years ago 4
yeah one of the best things about the sopranos for me was just the anticapation of something happening, that was more entertaning then whn someone actually was killed or shot. but yeah people now a days love brainless action movies were people can outrun machine guns and flip cars.

Hell no they didnt. Its the battle cry of the Continental army during the Revolutionary war.Its the American version of the British "Hazzah!". Now each branch has its own interpretation of the battle cry.

Its a hell of a programme, brutal, thought provoking and hard hitting! best programme I've seen in a while!

Quoted for truth, best war drama ive seen for over a decade, much better than that hollywood rip off Band of Brothers.

Zimmerh90 2 years ago
These two wars is totally different. WW2 was close quarter figthing and charge with what you got , now its more try to keep as many guys alive as possible. Therefore BoB was what you may call hollywood thingy, but I disagree, they just made the mini series as it was in the WW2. But in the iraq and A-stan wars teh tactics used is completely different in many ways. Generation kill is a good serie and may seem like a less hollywood thing, but I think they both image the two wars very good.

band of brothers was excellent
