Only Steely would try to put out a disco themed, blues tune with pop riffs, about a pedophile. I think they realized the more somber, downbeat version would fly better. I'm sure the record execs felt that way. Mr. Lapage is your man, he's always laughing having fun, showing his films in the den.......... (shudder) This guy was a real bad man.Fagan knew this tune was too tongue in cheek for the words, even for Steely Dan. But it is a great song.

I LOVE it!!! It's got the real feel, that the released version just couldn't reproduce - over-edited, I guess. Well, that WAS a big part of what made The Dan what it was - making certain that EVERY NOTE was "perfect". Sort of backfired here, as the demo tape shows.
