No. The feet first is not the problem with Bear. Its his running jump that takes him 10 or 15 feet down a slope before he lands that's ill advised. No point in it. You sit on your ass and slide. Avoiding mechanical injury in the wild is a top priority. No matter how good you are a broken ankle resulting from needless jumping is gonna doom you.
i'm surprised he didn't build his shelter off of the ground. granted, it must be damn difficult to do so with nothing but natural materials, but it's the one bit of advice that i thought was essential in jungle survival.
Stroud has no weaknesses. Bear is all show --some of it down right bad advice. No true survivalist will tell you to sled down a mountain or slide down a rocky slope by jumping feet first. Break a bone out in the wilderness doing stupid Bear stuff and you'll die there.
why do we have to have the gryllis vs. survivorman battle on each video, guys please stop.. they both have strengths weaknesses... Why don't you all go make your own shows and then compare yours to theirs... Done children done. go to your rooms and eat your hotpockets.
I hope he does a special survivorman in the future man last ep the pro/dir shld have brought him a lobster meal in the middle of the ep thanks for the upload
@gamergeeko He said a man can only go 7 days with little to no food and water and sleeping on rocks before hes had enough. Hes doing a show called beyond survival now.
even after a few yrs of watchin this (more lke 2-3 yrs) i still find it funny dat it sounds lke the echoes in the beggining sound lke tickle tickle tickle XD
In addition, the show had also allegedly faked numerous other scenes, including a scene in which Grylls had been shown building a raft that had already been built and then deconstructed for him, a scene in which he was shown skinning a rabbit he had falsely claimed to catch in a trap he'd built, and a scene in which he encountered "wild horses" that the show had actually been brought in from a trekking station. o.O
what's even more surprising is that interview on letterman, it was about taming wild horses with a rope. bear admitted they were local, domestic horses.but on the show, he clearly said they were wild and untamed.
According to the investigation, Grylls -- who, unlike Stroud, is accompanied by a production crew while filming his wilderness adventures -- had actually slept indoors at local motels or resorts during at least two occasions in which the show had led viewers to believe he was actually spending the night outdoors.
i love survivor man. My thing is if im gonna Sit around and watch tv every now and than then i might as well watch something that will most likely Benefit me in the long run. And considering the fact that hes all by himself with no camera crew like a sissy (*cough Man vs wild *cough) and he sets up all the camera shots with the tripod by himself and all the camera shots it just makes watching his show that much better.
A lot of people forget that even though Bear Grylls is a SAS soldier he does have a crew, which probably includes a medic, right there with him so he is able to take the risks that he does but Les does not have that luxury since his support is probably a day or two away. Also Les looks like he is a soccer dad with no military training at all and since it is the people who don't have military training are the ones getting lost I will have to go with Survivorman being the better show.
I wish he explained some of the things he does in a bit more detail. I have never seen anyone start a fire that particular way and im not exactly sure what he is doing?
@morningstomper123 It's the same as a bow-drill but horizontal and without the bow. Wrap the cord around your stick and pull on both ends so it spins. There are many ways of doing this but I imagine he has another piece of wood on top of one end of his spinning stick which he applies small pressure to using his foot, his other foot will be as a stopper for the end of the spinner to keep it in place. Simples.
I don't know why Les intentionally puts himself in unnecessary risk and suffering. such as drinking from presumed clean stream that probably later gave him the runs and not elevating himself off the ground putting himself at risk of getting stung by venomous insects and annoyed by others depriving him of sleep.
I hate how people always compare Stroud to Bear Grylls and Ray Mears. Bear Grylls is basically a survival stuntman who has a crew with him at all times. Ray Mears is an expert survivalist and bushcraftsman, but he too also always has a truckload of tools with him as well as a crew.
Les Stroud is an expert survivalist who lives off the land for almost a week at a time by himself. He doesn't try and glorify it or make himself look good, he openly admits his pains and doubts. This is real tv.
the fact that you went there ...Kudos Dude...i have seen all your vids...being sick completely sucks. You should do a new show where you have all the things you would like. Say I have everything but my truck broke down.....I have my truck and all my stuff.....all my stuff is ........................................
I think he had taken the Survivorman idea about as far as he wanted and wanted to develop new show ideas. He had been to about every type of terrain, desert, ocean, swamp, forrest, arctic, etc. If he had kept doing this show he would have started repeating himself. The real question is how much control he has over the production of his new shows and if he gets final cut as they say. There are some really reality TV shows out there and I think he wants to move in that direction.
i know and "like" both shows, one is of a person showing you how to get out of situations, the other is a person atatched to safety harnesses with a camera crew behind him....now...would anyone like some waffles?
@CallMeAndyx3 He stopped making them, because he reported that it was too stressful on his mind and body, apparently there were a lot of close calls where his crew could not get to him in time. He has a phone that he can use to call them at any given time if the conditions get too horrible or he wants to back out.. but when they cant get to him.. that means danger... but yeah, he did 3 years of this stuff.. trying to survive.. he probably just wanted a break!
Can I take issue with his commentary and say that the region is "unexplored", people live there, people who know the jungle well.
What he really means is, 'not mapped by occidentals', it's been discovered (about 40,000 years ago) and very well explored, just not by the dominant culture.
@SniperViper1000 i did look into it, manadged to get hold of 2-3 episodes, didn't really like it...the new show reminds me of those "survival" series with celebreties
