Since the advent of DNA, there have been many people released from Death Row because DNA proved they were not guilty. If they were standing up, and the head kept upright it would help because gravity will encourage the drainage of the oxygenated blood. No you can't. It's lethal injection only in Texas. I think there is one state, either Idaho or Utah, where you can request firing squad, since they're the only states that ever had it.

We should abolish the Death Penalty. I do not object on moral grounds. I am concerned that we will execute the wrong people. Since the advent of DNA, there have been many people released from Death Row because DNA proved they were not guilty. It makes me wonder how many people were executed before DNA evidence was used, while proclaiming their innocence, and were telling the truth. Once a person is executed, you do not get a "do over."

When the heart and brain are no longer connected and there is no artificial backup to supply the brain with oxygen, it's all over. The idea that the head "still lives", even for a few moments afterward is a myth that has been around for centuries.

@DarcMac It depends on how much oxygenated blood remains in the brain and for how long. It won't be absolutely instantaneous, but may be shorter than the account I read. If they were standing up, and the head kept upright it would help because gravity will encourage the drainage of the oxygenated blood. If the head rolls into the pit and remains upside down, it might take longer.
Certainly the lower body cannot feel pain as pain signals are sent via the CNS, which has been severed as you say.

It tends to cause vomiting. But it can be given with metoclopramide, cyclizine or some other antiemetic, so yes, any opioid drug - fentanyl is 80 times stronger than morphine - would cause a very peaceful death.
Also, the barbiturate is not as heavily controlled as the strong opioids (Sch 2), so there may be legal barriers.

No you can't. It's lethal injection only in Texas. I think there is one state, either Idaho or Utah, where you can request firing squad, since they're the only states that ever had it.

Texas had a splendid electric chair, and threw it out into the prison scrapyard. Luckily it was retrieved and put in a museum. It was unique in having integrated electrodes for the head and left leg, and was one of the tallest of the US chairs.
Lethal injection tables have no character.

And execution of innocent people by accident is of course a cruel crime. There are more civilised ways to punish criminals. But also in this matter, Texas is centuries behind of europe.

Just because one person is wrongly excuted for the crime he was convicted of does not mean we should abolish the death penalty My question is what crimes has he commited that he was not been convicted of? We are in Texas more people live here than other states most come from some other state and do the crimanl acts here then they get caught and start crying about how the death penalty is inhumane But we are supposed to forget about the horrific act of violence they commited against another

Yes it does. the State has no room whatsover for mistakes. How do you recompense an executed man for an error? You can release a person serving a sentence when a mistake is made but you can't bring back an executed person. Posthumous pardons don't help the dead man do they!

Lets just kill all the prisoners makes sense right. Get rid of the criminals and there wont be a need to tax for prisons. Skip the whole court system just line them up and shoot em.

How about all people who are against death penalty would pay luxury life of criminals? In here Finland prisoners get flat tv and dvd-player in their rooms.. nowdays even showers are in their rooms. Still they complain... also there has been many cases when killers kill again after they have been freed. They also get education free.
I have to pay from all those things.

Do I not read well? You say: Most victims are innocent, you got that right, but: "sorry if a few innocents are put to death but that number is very small compared to the number of innocent victims that are killed". So if YOU were tried and convicted for a murder you did NOT commit and you were to be executed, it would be ok with you, because you are one of very few innocents?
