On topic, i wouldnt buy a HTPC chassis without ATLEAST 4 drivebays. The point is to have all DVDs on the PC, IMO.

??FULL SIZE ATX?? if you want a gaming htpc get a micro atx motherboard, a mid-size atx case and micro atx psu with a adapter. - small motherboard, fairly mediun~large case and great cooling potential, like more/less fans, make sure to get the lowest db in fans, fan noise is something a htpc should NOT have.

For a htpc i HIGHLY recommend you get a +80 psu, trust me it will shave off a few 10's from your electric bill!!

I agree, 'HTPC' should constitute mATX or mITX. And considering how it's for gaming, an mATX would be more suitable for power + space requirements.

An ATX desktop MIGHT work.

a sata port on the outside of a case is called eSATA, u can hook up a external hard drive and it will run at 3.0 GB per second insted of slow usb

I don't understand, what is benefit of having a HTPC case for gaming? I have a HTPC and I hate the cased they come in. I purchased an HP D5000t and converted it into a HTPC, because it has 6 sata ports and it's easy to add and remove HDD; no screws necessary.

"Lots of fans" doesn't sound good for a HTPC. Water-cooling would be preffered, at least for the CPU and GFX card.

I have the Rampage II Gene, better then most ATX i7 boards so you don't need an ATX.

Also for socket 775, they release the Maximus GENE which could also be a very good choice!

Got the same mobo as you, it's brilliant for 1) its price and 2) how it performs and what features it has built in.

I have this in a full tower case btw, and it would suit me better than a 3x sli board or something like that.

i use a Ultra Aluminus full twr case. it's works gr8 for gaming ,and it dbls as a HTPC. any case will work really, just what ever suits your needs.

Nice Rig so far, I started building computers when I was 12 too.

I would suggest you look into the CoolerMaster Storm Scout Case or the HAF 932 if you have the money, and the XIGMATEK Dark Knight CPU Cooler with Arctic Cooling MX-3 thermal grease will cool that 9550 nicely.

You should also think about getting a second Hard Drive to back up all your Data. I had a drive fail on me twice and it sucks to lose any amount of Data.

Arctic Silver 5 is great too and will work just as good. Good Luck on the build and try not to fry any components. lol

Build your rig on a Wood table and touch the metal of your case before picking up any parts and you'll be fine. Also don't over do your voltages if you are overclocking.

If you're going with ATi, I'd go with HIS...the last XFX card I got (9800 GTX+) shipped with drivers that didn't work with the card...

I did, I was just irritated that the drivers that were shipped with it refused to recognize that I had an XFX card.  Next time I'll be going EVGA again. (Assuming ATi doesn't blow me out of the water with some fantastic new card).
