@ShatteredWake654 dave really doesnt jam though in the same sense that phish does they improv but do not all go at it and just see where it goes and really explore. I've been to a dave show as good as they'll ever play and a phish show as bad as they'll ever play and honestly dave was no better (props to ck5). That being said both are truly incredible bands, I just feel phish possesses something that only the dead have also possessed.
@jeudb757 - I agree that Phish is the superior jam band, but I think as far as actual musical talent & songwriting talent, I'd place dMb above them. We did lose a bit of our shine when Roi died, but we're still going strong as one of the best bands ever.

@jojojigaboo While usually I feel its unnecessary to state ones age before posting a comment in this case, let me say that I am 15. I find your comment to be highly unnecessary and extremely repulsive. You are talking about two very highly respected musicians who have brought joy to millions of people for 20 + years. They clearly are very good friends, and trey was clearly at a point in his life where he was on an array of drugs. Theres no reason to stoop to such vulgar and immature insults.

I think the comment about how DMB could play Phish songs but not the other way around is completely ludicrous. I'm sure Phish could jam out a DMB song and be way way better than original, but DMB songs just aren't that good :/.

@Rhet0rik i dunno how you can straight up say DMB songs aren't good. when you say it like that it sounds like you're saying DMB is a collection of worthless, talentless and tone deaf musicians. Which is not true, I think what you meant to say was that DMB isn't your style of music because they sure as hell have great songs.

@Dnt132 I didn't say anything about the musicians themselves, I'm just saying the songs suck. It's like saying Taylor Swifts songs suck, but that doesn't mean her backing band is full of worthless dolts.
(also Taylor Swift is terrible, you can save grace in the fact that dmb is better than her)

I love all the people on this page fighting over which of the two PEACEFUL bands is better. I mean, really? You're going to fight over chill bands? Do you realize how hypocritical you are? Phish & DMB are both phenomenal bands. Just enjoy them. Don't fight. Peace.

@ShatteredWake654 dave really doesnt jam though in the same sense that phish does they improv but do not all go at it and just see where it goes and really explore. I've been to a dave show as good as they'll ever play and a phish show as bad as they'll ever play and honestly dave was no better (props to ck5). That being said both are truly incredible bands, I just feel phish possesses something that only the dead have also possessed.

@jeudb757 - I agree that Phish is the superior jam band, but I think as far as actual musical talent & songwriting talent, I'd place dMb above them. We did lose a bit of our shine when Roi died, but we're still going strong as one of the best bands ever.

@ShatteredWake654 its just 2 varying strengths phish's aka TREY'S songwriting beauty is in the crazy emotion provoking and lengthy compositions like y.e.m., divided sky, reba, fluffhead...while dave can just plain write beautiful music. It's all about preference i guess but in terms of the live show i feel theres nothing that can compare to phish

@ShatteredWake654 the only thing dave is better at than phish is penning a song with catchy lyrics. phish has wrote mind blowing compositions that dmb has never come close to writing, they write way more complicated music than dmb. therefore, better musicians

@ShatteredWake654 dude, dmb has composed nothing but the same brand of catchy pop songs over and over since 2000. even DMB fans admit this. Everyday was the end of your band. they haven't made anything of the warehouse caliber in years. Phish has a dozen songs with 15 minutes worth of brilliant and technical composed sections. Dmb has about 2 songs like that.
I understand you like DMB more, thats great, i did too in 10th grade. but ask any musician familiar with the bands, they will tell you

@rrtierney - Musicians don't matter. But a musical analyst (like someone talking on this comments page right now) says DMB is superior. You say DMB hasn't done anything worthwhile since 2000? What about Phish? Undermind & Joy were mediocre, especially Undermind. Even Round Room was just okay to most critics.
On the other hand, musical experts & critics were in love with Big Whiskey. Sorry, dude, you're just not bright enough or informed enough to understand.

what is a fact, is that phish's music is more technical. thats why i say ask a musician. theyd tell you. dave matthews is a singer songwriter. he can't even play the song write in this video, lol.

Maybe that's because it is not supposed to sound the same every time.
It's because he plays with a slightly different feeling each performance.
He plays to express emotion, not follow a guidebook. That is why he is great.
I suppose that's true for all good music...but that's just "an opinion".

@daviesrjack lol, i'm sorry, dave is playing this song wrong and you are trying to tell me it is because he plays different for each performance. in this performance, he is fucked up and playing a simple song, that i can play correctly and i suck at guitar, completely wrong.
if his way of expression emotion is playing songs wrong then he truly does suck ass. phish/trey change up their songs way more than dmb could ever dream of. despite me hating, i do like/respect dmb for what its worth

Once you get over the whole im cool for smoking pot at a dave show thing you should maybe look for something a little more interesting. Like Trey making thousands of people jump of the ground shredding a solo. please dave dont put me to sleep with any more acoustic chords and a band of trumpets to solo for you!
