  • I started working there in 1969---I see the place went to hell---what a shame

  • My Aunt Mary was there when it was the Wyngdale Mental Hospital. I use to go with my Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle to visit once a month on Sundays. I was really little and it was really scary. The sounds, the actions will live with me forever. My Granny would go inside to sign Aunt Mary out for the day and I was always afraid they wouldn't let Granny back out. This fear was not from horror films, this was back in the early 50's and it was created from what I saw there...

  • awesome video !!!

  • My grandmother was admitted in 1939 for mental issues. She stayed there for many years. How can I find out about her? Any help would be appreciated. I never met her. I was born in 1947.

  • is that building still up i wanna go there

  • Heard there's a patient cemetary somewhere on the grounds.the graves are marked with numbers..no names.

  • I'd be in that abandoned building so fast grabbing all of the antiques any chance I could.

Believe it or not, the ceiling PA speakers throughout the building would be BETTER quality than ANY speaker sold on today's market.

  • sigur ros!

liked the video, very captivating. trying to imagine having to spend part of my life in a place like this is a little mind-boggling. how old is the hospital, and for how long has it been out of use?

  • @nevershoutkelsie211 i believe it was opened in 1924 and shut down in 1994.

  • imagine waking up in that shit at night time....... fuck that

  • Most of my family including my mother worked at HVPC I know it was a shame that it had to close down in 94.. [the economic impact on the town was really bad] But in a way its good to know that its being torn down... it has a long dark history even when it was DFY. I also heard of some pretty brutal scary ghost stories from folks that worked there. RIP HVPC

  • Drove by it today and it was the scariest thing I have ever seen. When I was reading about it on the Internet I read that they used to do shock therapy tests on the patients and kill them to test their gear before World War 2.

  • I always wanted to check this place out but my brother and I were in court for a speeding ticket and some guys were there busted for tresspassing and they looked like the ghostbusters hahah. I don't wanna get in trouble for a stupid reason.

  • @mrcox87 I was popped for a no seat belt ticket and when i was in the courtroom there were 2 kids there that were charged with tresspassing. They really dont play at this place.

  • @StephaniesChoice well if they tear it down they still cause it to be disturbed lol

  • what's the name of this song??

  • i love the facade. but this one, taconic school ( still open ) hudson river state and mattawean ( now fishkill correctional ) all give me the creeps

  • What a huge place. Why did it close? Advances in psychiatric care made such a huge place unnecessary?

  • @starsiegeplayer Basically.

  • no one likes you neil. and by the way...LV4L.

  • how far into the demo are they??

  • yup the demo has started it sucks i love it there very peaceful

  • i know that demo and such has been on the table for quite awhile, just wasnt sure if it has actually started yet

  • i was here a little over 3 years ago..what is the current status of this place?

  • I'm sure many of you know that this complex is going to be taken down and turned into something completely different. If you believe that this building should be kept how it is then please sign this petition: ipetitions [dot] com/petition/restorehvpc/

  • Lived and played on the lovely grounds as a child, and worked there later.

Very warm and happy memories of good and happy times at Harlem Valley.

  • I worked there when it was a viable hospital. It was clean, cheery and safe. Wendy Acrish, the last director of HVPC was a humane and compassionate human. Most of the patients who were let go were sad to leave.

  • @calii927 Do you remember a nurse administrator named Elsie Puglisi? Or an RN named Gary Herron?

  • @ denniseVT what company does your husband work? Do you think he has seen or heard anything while working there? Is he still working there? Do u think he can get permission to let people in to investigate?

  • haunted?

  • Is that where they built South Harmon Institute of Technology?

  • It was open from 1924 to 1994. It had a baseball field, grand stand, bowling alley, movie theater, a "soda shop", & a full functioning farm, so they were completely self-sufficient. My husband's company starts environmental remediation & demolition at one of the buildings there tomorrow morning. It's planned to be 1400+ housing units, luxury golf club, commercial & retail space.

  • The developer has a website: knollsofdover

Can't type the actual address in cuz it won't let me post it that way

  • @DenniseVT i saw it today and its amazing and beautiful. they should just remodel it and make it a private school.

  • Is this right by the train station?

  • im going here soon

  • just came back from going around at night with a few friends. this video makes it look like a normal building but when i was there it was creepy as hell idk just a personal opinion i guess

  • I actually live in the mountains behind the hospital. I drive on those roads almost everyday. I always wondered what it was like on the inside. I heard lots of stories from those who went in. I heard there was a bowling area.

  • Its a shame that these buildings just sit here. they should be turned into apartment buildings or something. I pass them everyday and cant help but wonder why the state has done nothing with them

  • @Samsac5 Its New York duh! ^_^

  • I passed these buildings on the way to a dog show, they are eerie testaments to a time gone by.

  • My dad worked on this building! He said while he was in the tunnels, and they would go in, and the abandoned rooms would have things moved in them, and the lights to certain parts of the building would turn on, even thought there was no lectricity going to them. I'm pretty sure this is it, lol.

  • i doubt i could get authorization being only 17. I wish i could go inside of the facility just to see what its like inside i know its possible but i dont want to get arrested because there are rumors of security patrolling which i dont fully believe.

  • my mom was in harlem valley she is 41 now she still alive

  • just passed this building earlier today.. interesting to see the inside. i really was curious about what lay within. its always creeped me out a little to be honest..

  • hvpc is my home. it isnt a monster , its a reflection

  • It was a long process of talking with the property owners and letting them know that we wanted to document the site from a historical perspective. They were hesitant, but eventually agreed. Once we were there, they were very gracious and allowed us to shoot a great deal of the site, as you can see.

  • Me and a few of my friends went there last night and went up the back way to try to get inside, we eventually turned around after seeing about 3 decaying houses and 1 greenhouse with trees growing out of it with the sign next to it that told us it was police patrolled. how did you get authorization?

  • Me and a few of my friends went inside the front entrance road in my car a few weeks ago at night but were too afraid to go any further, then two days ago we went in through the back and passed by a bunch of creepy old houses and turned around when we saw the sign that said "Police Patrolled area and no trespassing". How did you get Authorization?!?!

  • • Lindab23455 I graduated from nursing school from this hospital in 1963. Then it was a place to learn and care for our patients. It is what was done then. We have learned and grown in the psych profession. My memory goes back to when I stood on the stage pictured and wore my cap and NEW YORK state pin. I and many of my classmates are still in the mental health profession. I am a CNS and a counselor but my roots are in Harlem Valley State Hospital and it's teachers.

  • My brother and I managed to squeeze in through a broken window. We went through the whole building that was furthest back. we also went to the basement where the morgue is supposed to be but it was flooded with water.this was in 2003

  • I pass by those buildings every other day. I live around 5 minutes away from them in Wingdale. I always wondered what it was like inside, and I think that this video is great...Good job guys! Also, what is the name of the song?

  • Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed the video. The song is "Ágætis byrjun," by one of my favorite bands, Sigur Rós.

  • @hiddenhometown man I LOVE the extior of this bulding..

it didnt shut down tht long ago.. but hte inside is so decripit for its abandoment age/: sad this place is beautiful/: how did you get in?

  • I've been a few of those buildings about 20 years ago

  • That's a lot of bricks.

  • I have passed by on Rt 22 many times but never really had a look inside.

  • how did you get authorization?

  • It's one of my favorite places.
