It's because Jmes Winslow is British. Honestly, he comes from a country with technology. And a country with bravery and people who actually care. Less developed countries shouldn't have sports with risks like this. They should get given decent governments and lives instead of becoming rapists. Gays
@SDL1984 I believe James got an award from the Indonesian government as well as racing bodies around the world. I think the UK government owe him something.
@alief54 I am an Aussie who has raced in Indonesia. You and the track marshals have nothing to apologise for, I wouldn't fight a fire without an extinguisher in jeans and a t-shirt. It comes down to the track owners who pocket the money and run the show on a tight budget. Indonesians are great people and top racing fans!
muy buen trabajo Sr. james. Felicidades. Es un honor poder felicitarle por su heroica acción. Tiene usted todos mis respetos y admiración. Un abrazo desde España. Suerte campeon.
I don't understand....all these comments about the lack of marshals, while warranted, should have been prefaced by a comment on the actions of James. Have we all lost touch with our basic humanity? How fkn hard is it to point out the positve first then the negative? To all those who commented on James' actions please disregard this rant and pat your own back for being normal.
Seriousley thou....where are the marshals??? this track should have its license taken away, only for the courage of Winslow, Soeprapto would have burned to death like Roger Williamson,
This so reminds me of that day at Zandervoort, and just like David Purley, James Wilmslow was a hero that day.
as a marshal at many meetings at many tracks in the uk for the past 15 years, i think this is pretty dire no extinguishers carried to scene, should have been straight on that fuel leak with a foam extinguisher right away, and the fire would not have even started, no spotters watching the track, god knows what flags they had out! in this case the driver was ok, but pinned against the tyre wall,by moving the car slightly, james was able to release him, second before fire broke out. Brave man respect
I shared a few drives in races on Sentul and other tracks in Asia. For the most part the "medical facilities" will be an old work bench in a shed adjacent to the paddock. The marshals are volunteers and I can't blame them for not getting too close. Most probably had shorts and t shirts.
And who give the thumbs down on the comments saying that fire safety was insufficient in Sentul? Having raced at Sentul on a motorbike, I think these statements are very true.
I know marshals are usually volunteers, but why are they so goddamn useless? They see a flipped car and they think "Oh well it's not on fire so I guess I'll just leave it to the driver to get himself out". Suddenly it catches on fire. "Holy crap it's on fire, I'm not going near that!".
Do we really want a repeat of Roger Williamson's fatal crash? Tetsuya Ota almost died at Fuji as well. Marshals need to be properly trained, equipped, and prepared.
In that case, please forgive my ignorance. But that prompts me to ask the question, where the hell are the medics? Marshals on most circuits are quite speedy, but sometimes you watch videos like this and you've just got to wonder what the hell they were all doing.
i was there when it happened they didnt have enough fire marshalls and equipment on stand by. Moreno drove for me the year before. thank goodness James rushed to the rescue..
Good Lord, that's amateur night. Nice job on the marshals' part letting the fire get to the tire wall, not like that'll burn AT ALL! No way I'd race there after seeing that display of ineptitude by the track personnel.
WTF ARE THEY DOING?????? Where are the fire crews and extinguishers???? Winslow did a good job.. terrible track management on the part of the organisers.
it's impossible that such a race has been allowed!
you see nonne of the stuff knowing what to do! Nowadays every marshall has to know how to handle an extinguisher! Imagine....there are no fire fighters! this fire could have been spullulade all over the track!
I cannot believe they had a race at a place with such dire safety provisions, one of the marshalls was stood in the pouring fuel, they were all wearing t-shirts, none of them knew what the hell they were doing and there was seemingly no firetruck for miles!
Thanks! I've been waiting to see this footage for a LONG time. I hope the Sentul management have learned from their obvious shortcomings here and in the GP2 Asia meeting. Soeprapto was lucky to be freed before the flames took hold, as it seems they had no provision for putting out a large fire.
OMG. A huge fire. Looks cool doesn't it?
Or maybe:
Hey have you seen the news lately?
Or even:
How's she then.
Not:
We must save him!
It is:
I AM A BASTARD FROM INDONESIA DDDUUUUUUHHH!!!!!!

jesus, they shouldnt let the drivers race there its way so unsafe and the standard of marshalling and fire stewards is so rubbish.

why you got 2 thumbs down is beyond me....totally right..the marshalling was borderline criminal neglect!

they are properly trained, and they are told to leave the car if it has flipped so that medics can assess the situation for spinal injuries.
