  • When a video has "Let's Play" in the title I expect there to be some sort of commentary. Other than that everything is fine.

  • @MrGhostMark This video is an accompaniment to the thread linked in the video description, which is where the commentary is.

  • @placozoan Makes sense. I cannot view said thread though.

  • Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Phantasy Star series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!

  • Is it just me or does Dark Force have faces on each side as an allusion to his multidimensional nature? As 3D beings we cannot actually see more than three dimensions, so like a multi-faced Hindu God they added in the extra faces to suggests DF's interdimensional nature. I'd like to see a remake of this game where they can go to some post-game save file secret dungeon and face the Profound Darkness. With this party Megid = boom, dead.

  • Wow, you beat him w/o using Megid...

When I beat him, I had:

    - RolF/Rudo/Anna/Kain

    - ABout 3 Star Mist/Moon Dew apiece

    - Megid Technique

And yeah, DF is much harder than MB, IMO, esp when he uses that Dark Force ability to gimp your party. I used to pray for the Neisword White Light to restore my party!

    But good post.

  • i can't beat this game the weapons are hard to find !

  • I like how relaxing the music is.

  • Die monster! You don't belong in th-...

    Oops, wrong game.

  • nice orginal team....i think everyone chooses rolf, rudo, anna, and amy. I cant say anything though because that was my team back in the day also. good stuff! :-)

  • he has the face of ALIEN

  • Damn he's ugly! Die horribly you disembodied bastard!

  • It's nice to see a party other than Rolf, Rudo, Anna and Kain, which is so expected. I like the challenge of using the other characters.

  • When I beat PSII many years ago Dark Force wasted a lot of turns casting useless evil. I was expecting a battle like this vid but he was a pushover on my game.

  • Well, Shir is not so bad. Since she is very quick, equip her some sleeves or emel (both hands) and she becomes a tank... She can become the "item user" of the party... Always quicker than monsters to use the snow crown, starmists and whatsoever... Then use the stormgear and have constant damage regardless the armor. Some say "you could use Anna for this...." It is true but using Anna for this purpose will not reduce her number of attacks per fight, also, 1 slicer is way not enough, none=meh!

  • @Gintonnikk - Also, Anna is more useful against multiple enemies. Bosses? Meh. Her biggest advantage against bosses is her high agility, but Shir's agility is high, too. Plus, she can use Nazan a few times before going back to her weapons.

  • I just beat this game and man this guy was the hardest enemy in the game. It doesnt matter how many healing items or how high your level is, is he posses all your characters like he did me several times and the neisword refuses to shine then youre screwed. its so cheap.

  • Hugh rocks, he learns some more useful abilities when he stops learning is biomonster skills

  • Hugh isn't actually that bad: he is LETHAL against living non-boss enemies. And not too bad against the last boss, as he has some heals etc. Better than Anna I think.

Kain is worse, as he's a mech-focused version of Hugh, and they become quite rare and are (I think) non-existent i the last dungeon.

My last party when I did this at about 12 years old was Rolf, Rudo, Hugh and Kain. And we were under-levelled, heh. Still won.

  • Kain actually isn't a bad choice in the endgame. For some reason, his anti-mech techniques also work against "unnatural" monsters, including Dark Force and all the monsters in the last five dungeons.

  • Oh? I recall hearing that somewhere, but never did verify.

    All the better I think.

  • @placozoan i concur. kain is the shit against mechs, and against the "evil alligned" non-biomonster enemies, as in the dezo dungeons and spaceship noah, and even dark force. his techs are as strong as rolf's. (excluding megid, which really is a waste of TP, and the party's HP, and techs/items to restore HP, and the player turns it takes to do so anyway.) using rolf's attack/nathu or nafoi, rudo's neishot, kain's nagaj, and amy on the defense, one can defeat dark force in very few turns.

  • The best team are Rolf,Rudo, kain and Anna perfert team work.

  • @Mastereddy5 I say that Rolf, Rudo, Anna and switch Kain for Amy. There u go. Good team. As u can see in this video, rolf had 290 hp, look at my video "Dark force second attempt Ps2" u can see that rolf has 190 and i still beat him quite easily.

  • Whoa! Did I just see someone kick Dark Force's ass with the weakest party combination ever?! Oh Hell yeah! I had to re-watch this vid because it's hard to believe you defeated that boss with Shir & Hugh in the party.

  • This is one of the hardest games ever that is still possible to beat.

that stupid turning people evil move is the cheapest crap I have lost when everyone was uncontrollable.

  • dang tell me about it! "crushed by despair" was my most hated "evil"!!!

  • great video! I just downloaded this game for xbox 360 arcarde. I love that a game that I loved as a kid is now on a next gen console and you can get achievements!! Rock on PS2!!! PS: Rolf, Rudo, Anna, and Amy is the best combo to beat the game...:-)

  • I could never beat this guy.

  • Why did you use Shir? She's awful.

Best team is Rolf, Rudo, Amy, and Kain.

Kain is great because he deals massive damage to robotics and Mother Brain. Therefore placing him in the top 3 best characters in that game.

  • Story purposes. Better explained if you read the thread.

  • Well, sort of. I wanted to use each character against at least one of the final bosses to show off their abilities (or lack thereof, in Hugh's case). The story was written around that objective.

  • I never got this far, thanks for showing me what it was like.

The music is a bit disapointing after the normal battle music was so cool for its day.

  • For shame Shir.

  • i use rolf and rudo only but at this point they r at level 50 so its all good

  • That looks like Dark Falz...

  • Because it is he is in all 4 games the whole Dark falz thing was a mistake in translation.

  • yeah it was called dark phallos in the original jp version and you know what *cough* *cough*

  • wow... Shir and Hugh are so useless

  • hugh and rudo were always my fave. i almost never used anna and only shir for stealin moon dews and star mists from that shop. i rather use amy in a group

  • this battle was VERY easy for me. Rolf was level 30.

  • lol! shire turn traitor runs and fails.

  • LOL. this brings back old memories when I first go my Sega genesis.

  • Just wondering, what happens when evil is cursed on your party?

  • You can't control the "Cursed" character on their turn: They Either; Become unmotivated (Weakened Strength/Agility), Try and retreat from battle, or could possibly steal vital items needed for this fight (Star Mist or Moon Dew) Either way you need to be heavily prepared for this: If you are planning to use Megido, then have lots of Star Mists on hand. I personally use Nafoi myself, Megido is too risky in a battle like this; Megido takes Half of all members HP except lead and used for damage.

  • taking half of allies HP execpt the caster and turns it into damage, imagine using that with all allies at level 99

  • Actually, the damage Megid does is independent of the HP of your allies. Megid will do just as much damage if Rolf is alone as it will if he has a full party. Allies losing half their HP is just some sort of extra price to pay for the spell.

  • Also the level cap is 50.

Still, I was able to beat them long before I learned the technique. Rolf was level 28, Amy was level 25, and Rudo and Anna were 27.

  • Character that is cursed can't act on their turn; They will either become unmotivated (Weakened Strength/Agility), Steal vital items from other members, or try to run from battle.

Evil can be dispelled by the Neisword at random

  • But can't you use the Neisword by choosing it from the item list?

  • It doesn't work that way unfortunately. The Neisword will randomly break the curse between rounds. Sometimes it flat out never comes to your rescue and you're screwed. I've lost this fight before with all my characters on level 50 for that reason.

  • I like name of the techs in Phantasy Star :)

    Foi, Thu, Zan etc

  • For those that KNOW all of the Phantasy Star games well, you may or may not agree with me that this incarnation of DARK FORCE is the best looking, most terrifying. More so than the Dark Force in PSIII, the Dark Forces in PSIV and even more than the Profound Darkness.

  • totally..he looks REALLY menacing here..although he looks WELL-DRAWN and NICELY ANIMATED in PSIV (same goes for PF), he looks WAY more TERRIFYING AND FORMIDABLE in PSII.

  • I think he looks pretty damn evil in the original PS for the Master System.

  • This thing can give me nightmares. That thing he does when he curses a party member is just CREEPY!

  • this boss is tougher than mother brain in my opinion

  • i agree with you

  • That's one of my favorite games of all time.

  • UGH, i hated fighting this boss. It was a pretty cool concept with having your characters become 'evil', but it was just SO annoying cause it took forever for the NeiSword to kick in. Your characters were interesting....probably added to the challenge of course. For me its the usual Amy, Rudo, and Anna...but sometimes I might go with Kain, because he's pretty useful during the Mother Brain battle.

  • This is a very hard boss fight. Even at high levels if you don't get a good roll of the dice, he can kill you. I've had it before where he possesses everybody, and the NeiSword never comes to my rescue, and he just kills them off. Mother Brain is much easier.

  • looks similar to dark falz from Phantasy Star on the SMS

  • All dark forces looks similar in PS series.

  • chattery teeth of DOOM!

  • this is the first time i have seen any one use shir at the end of the game!! Give your self a challenge why dont ya!!!!!!

  • This guy is impossible. I only beat him because of a game glitch where Rudo turned traitor and tried to run, and it worked.

  • hard ass game

  • dark force is the hell

nice how you beat him whit bad chars like hugh

    and shir

  • Hugh isn't entirely bad. He just becomes useless when mother brain is "broken" and the monsters are replaced by robots

  • good ol' dark force...hard as hell when i first fought him

  • Rad. I like how Dark Force brought out the worst in the people in your party.
