It lets you manipulate sound waves to make many different types of sound. i like this song, mainly because of the sound that they are making, and the song has a hypnotic effect to it. I love it!
We used to listen to this on mushrooms 30 years ago! Sounded ridiculous then rather than trippy. The Stevie Wonder stuff they later did was inspirational.

This long preceded the C64 SID chip and it is something way much better ...
This is all vintage analog synthesis and its creator is the world-famous TONTO synthesizer! :)
FWIW, the "SID sugar cube" also preceded the Commodore 64 SID chip! :)
