Those Tracey boys always seemed to have the right equipment for every conceivable occasion and Lady Penelope's elan was matched only by her discretion! Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this as a 7 year old in the mid-sixties being utterly absorbed in the adventures of International Rescue - even if it was in black and white in those days.
The problem with the 2004 movie, is that the writing was aimed at kids who never seen the show. A mature movie is feesable. The story just has to be aimed totally at Adults. Lets say, many years later . All the Tracy sons have professional careers. However, an Earth catastrophe is looming. The brothers re-unite at the behest of NATO.
I'm in my late 40's and still enjoy watching this show. Kids today can say what they want, or even adults, but this show was awesome to watch. I was always fascinated with the miniatures and special effects. I even enjoyed the character as well as Barry Gray's musical score. Kids today are deprived of such imagination like this.
Wow!! Brought back so many childhood memories, I loved this show. Was very jealous when my buddy go a model Thunderbird 2 for his birthday, it was always the coolest in my mind. Thanks for posting.
3:42 -- it just occurred to me, how did Mr. Tracy and co. explain the area TB2 uses as a runway to visitors? It certainly looks like runway, even when the "garage door" is closed.
@astrocitizen Nothing wrong with having a runway! It would probably be how the visiors arrived after all, just with a normal plane. No need to keep it secret.
@astrocitizen That's easy. On the rare occasions visitors come or when supplies are delivered to the island, its always quicker by plane so la runway would be logical
I recall going to school the following morning and all the playground was buzzing with "did you see Thunderbirds last night". Utterly brilliant for its time. Of course modern technology sort of makes it look a little silly these days. But you have to remember that a) this was for kids and b) it was first shown in the mid 1960's. I have always loved the show and was amused and pleased when they re-ran it a few years back and whole new generation got hooked.
My dad also grew up with this as it was allready in 60's on TV. He said to me it was scary to see so much future in a puppet show, he didn't realise that most became reality in 69 -> Moon landing, Supersonice concorde. Talk about amazing ! The dream was only 4 years away
In 1993 I watched it at the Dutch Television. 3 years old....Couldnt wait untill it was my birthday. MATCHBOX thunderbirds. The music and the sounds are just wonderfull. Pure British class television ! The landing of the fireflash is epic. "Cut engine" .
@mingo1990 Your comment could have been mine! I'm from 1990 to, also grew up watching it on dutch television as a 3 year old. And ofcourse I also had the toys. Good old times! :P
I just loved the ritual and mechanical nature of the launches! The palm trees falling over to the side of the launch ramp for TB2, the swimming pool retracts for TB1! Wasn't there a seldom used mole machine in one of the TB2 canisters? And of course the music is a big part of the enjoyment when Thunderbird's are GO!
Anyone know that this was the first ever use of the rolling road effect and the elevator car spinning off was not scripted but an accident that Anderson liked so much he kept it in?

Youngsters may laugh today but remember all this is real, no god awful CGI like in the terrible Thunderbirds movie of several years a go.
