  • Dear Leo, You see how many times people have viewed this clip. Please record Corina Corina.

  • carpethead, you a hero to people trying to learn leo's music everywhere. this video was invaluable to me years ago when i had just started playing guitar and was trying to figure out corrina corrina. you have done an invaluable service for fingerpickers everywhere. thank you!!!!!

  • Brilliant! Thank You for your thought and energy in sharing this

    gifted human being.

    Peace and Blessings.

  • God bless you for sharing this. I heard him perform "Corrina, Corrina" last night and was saddened at the possibility of not hearing a similar version again. And @ Tman4000, last night's audience gave him the respect he deserves.

  • There is nobody like Kottke. No combination of comedian and outstanding guitarist has probably ever existed. Awesome.

  • Is it just me or is he indirectly commenting on your filming as upsetting him?

  • ...and yet the profundity is amplified....

  • Is it sad, or is it funny--the mic from inside the crowd doesn't seem to record the profundity of what he is saying....

  • Unbelievable. this man plays music, alive. his music is the sixth element.

  • Listening, watching, enjoying, this wonderfully gifted artist is such a pleasure. His genius is simply mesmerizing. Thank you so much for posting!

  • thankyou sooooooo much for these videos.

you earned at least a square mile of heaven!!!

  • I love LEO!

  • does anyone know the tuning for "Corina, Corina'?

  • I'm going to figure it out later tonight. I'll post it.

  • Excellent. Thanks!

  • @frets4life17 Hi I do this version in a d DADF#AD tuning with capo on 2nd fret.

  • Thanks a bunch, man. I've always wanted to play this song.

  • I saw him in concert once and he played some song called "Ticket to Tuktiuktuk" or something. Is that what it's called? Anyone know?

  • Its a festival crowd. I was shocked the first time I went to a festival and the artist would start playing and everyone DIDN'T shut up and listen.

  • Did you get a "tiny Island " by chance? Great Stuff.. Kottke shows get either Major fan attention or sometimes Minor. He seems OK either way. Best shows are when he talks 1/2 the show. And he may tell his story of a show or a song. Its ALL about the music and story telling..BTW took my child to her fisrt when she was 10,bout 15 yrs ago..Altho she could sit still..Leo Kottke=True genius..

  • He plays so effortlessly. I am jealous.

  • Not effortlessly. He practices constantly and copes with hearing loss in both ears and tendon damage in his right hand. He works hard to make it look effortless for us.

  • It's interesting to see him in such meager settings, I thought Kottke played at much more prestigious settings than this dinky little ampitheatre.

  • this was actually at an outside park believe it or not.

  • A park? that's interesting. I guess when I really think about it, that must've been a cool experience to see him not necessarily in a designated venue for performing artists, kind of more pure in a way I'd imagine?

  • oh man - I found a tab of this song online that shows it in standard tuning - it's been killing me and now I look here and he's in open (D maybe plus the capo to put it in E?) tuning!

  • Is it me, or is the audience not giving him proper respect?

  • It's a live concert...you know, the kind where FAMILY can all enjoy the music. An outdoor concert. It's fun to go to these types and expose your kids to TALENT and not have to worry about music nazis missing their headphones. :-)

  • What a great version! A close second to Dylan's version in my opinion.

  • Loved this - thank you so much, Carpethead! (Corinna, Corinna.... :) ) Love the picking on this song! Kottke is just amazing.

  • Thank you for posting this treasure carpethead1. I love visiting with Kottke, and that is what if feels like to see him perform. He's such a warm and charming and genuine and quirky presence.

  • Thank you so much for posting these. Brings back so many memories of my youth spent listening to him.

  • Ladies and Gentleman appease me if you will listen to the breakdown at 15 minutes 10 secs the single greatest piece of music ever.

  • Please if you will Leo is above any other performer out there who has these stories, let alone the charisma to relate them to the audience and talk about technique please reveal to me any greater player, didnt think you could not possible.

  • Chet Atkins. Buckethead. Done.

  • earlier leo refers to establishing a rapore with the audience, and in this clip he gives a lesson in how it can be done, beginning with one of his wonderful rambling stories he compliments them on where they live and when he knows he has their attention he slays them (and me) with his beautiful personalised version of corrina corrina, what an artist, what honesty.

  • hate retuning, but Leo's super.

  • do love ..pickin' extraordinary, elegant, melodic, moving, amazing and distinctive vocal

  • This man is a national treasure!!

  • Thanks for posting this video.

Mr leo,I've been waiting for your show at my country Japan.

  • Captive audience. Idiots. What is this - a car show? Halftime at a high school basketball game? I guess this crowd is waiting on the *real* entertainment to show up - Britney Spears. Anyway, Morning Is The Long Way Home may not be the greatest guitar inst. ever written, but it's definitely in the top two.

  • you said it. i've listened to 'Morning' a billion times and still get chills every time.

  • Finger-style guitarists and banjo players are angels from God. God can boogie, too! Love the harmonics in Cripple Creek - a hard tune to make sound good on anything other than a banjo! :oD Leo's intro to the last (12-string) tune has a 'talk-in' similar to Arlo Guthrie's technique - long may that type of humorous 'talk-in' last !!! Long live Leo's magic fingers!

  • I can't believe that people are talking while this incredible music is being played.

  • Does anyone know what tuning he's in for Corrina Corrina and Cripple Creek?

  • Yes, I play my own version of the two combined. The tuning is DADF#AD Best of luck to you.

  • I've got one up on you geeflat, got turned on to the "Armadillo" album freshman year of college in '72. Biggest regret in the music sense, is that I missed his perfomance at the now defunct Windham College in VT., later in the year.

  • Thanks so much for this series man. I could listen to him all day!

  • WE LOVE HIM!!

  • could easily make a living as a stand-up comedian... ya know if this music thing doesn't work out... lol one of the greats!!

  • The piece includes a lick from "Watermelon", so it's easy to get these songs mixed up because Leo's borrowing licks from other songs anyway.

  • Thanks again for these clips. As an fan of Leo's since 1976 (ouch!), this little series of yours is, for me, the best thing on Youtube.

  • Correction: The last song that Leo plays on the 12-string is not Busted Bicycle. It is "Morning is the Long Way Home". Great posts, I love them all <3.

  • Wow... You are right, I had just assumed that was Busted Bicycle because somebody in the crowd just yelled out, "Busted Bicycle!!" and I thought he did that song. But oh well, I guess I need to know his songs better. Thanks.

  • He does Busted Bicycle, just not on this vid :P I've got a video up of me doing Busted Bicycle though.

  • I am loving this series - you had a great view the entire time.

Leo is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Right up there with Doyle Dykes, Tommy Emmanuel, and Eric Clapton.

    Thanks!
