  • great video!

  • Dolphins are amazing! No doubt about that.

  • My dolphin lied

  • moronic talk

  • Well if you count dolphins as persons, you better believe whales and porpoises are persons as well. If cetaceans are persons, then so are parrots, crows, elephants, and primates - as well as other complex animals I am forgetting.

  • @RingneckDoveFan You do understand cetaceans' brain anatomy varies with species? Oh, and I hope you get a dolphin's brain is anatomically different than a parrots. You can't group animals together, they are all inherently different and trying to compare intelligences as a whole is fruitless. Complex is different from non-human person. There's a lot more than simple intelligence that goes into the latter.

  • @yuppers What's your point? They are all complex. They are ALL on the top of their game. They should all be treated equally. Whether they are "NON-HUMAN PERSONS" or not should not make a difference on how they are treated/looked at. I suggest you get your ass in contact with Dr. Irene Pepperberg - otherwise, I don't give a shit about what you have to say. Parrots should be treated the same as cetaceans whether or not their 'brain anatomy varies.' LOL

  • @RingneckDoveFan Just because something is complex, does not mean everything else that is complex is equivalent. Just because chimps, dolphins and elephants are all viewed as intelligent, does not mean they all have the same level of self awareness, problem solving skills or creativity. There are huge gaps, between species in the intelligence field, and brain anatomy is an incredibly important aspect. Dogs are smart in the animal world, so are we with your logic we're as

  • @RingneckDoveFan intelligent as dogs. But here's the thing, while we may choose whether or not to give an animal certain "rights," based on it's comprehension of the world around it, we should not change how we treat it because of that. It is never ok to intentionally and needlessly harm something living, and that has nothing to do with intelligence

  • @124yuppers

    Dogs aren't self aware.

  • @RingneckDoveFan So far to our knowledge that is true. Your point? Oh and btw, parrots are not self aware either. The only animals we can prove are self aware are humans, elephants, dolphins and chimps.

  • @124yuppers

    Cool.

But my first comment still stands.

  • @RingneckDoveFan Fine. Good to know when I've won. We've all grown up a little bit haven't we ;D

  • @124yuppers

You claim you have "grown up." You replied to my comment in the first place only because you discriminated against me just because I support cetacean captivity. ..Shows how mature you are..holding a grudge against someone over something that has NOTHING to do with my comment. By the way - magpies are self aware.

Sorry to burst your ego bubble, but you didn't win anything.

  • @RingneckDoveFan haha, I'm not like a captivity racist, if that exists, I'm not even fully anti-cap myself, I had a problem with your grouping animal intelligences together. It doesn't have to do with captivity, it has to do with misinformation. Show me a link or something to that magpie research.

  • @124yuppers Link? Ever heard of this thing called "Google." It's a search engine. Use it.

  • @RingneckDoveFan So....should I assume you don't know of any credited magpie research?

  • Crows, Ravens and parrots are self aware as well as the ones mentioned

  • @ultimera1 I have never heard that, reacting to a mirror is different from being self-aware. Could you possibly send me a link to where you got this info?

  • @RingneckDoveFan , Dogs are most likely to be self aware to some extent.

  • @ultimera1 As much as we all would love to believe dogs are self aware, researchers believe that because of their severely underdeveloped neocortex, that this is very unlikely.

The only animals that have passed the mirror test are 3 kinds of gibbons, bonobos, chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas, and then other than primates; bottlenose dolphins, orcas, elephants, and European magpies. No dogs.

  • She is amazing,,an excellent totally awesome presentation.

  • Love this woman! Especially want to be saved my micro algae! Too funny.

  • If dolphins are persons, that raises some serious questions about our treatment towards them. Like confining them in small tanks for human amusement, the dolphin drives where they are brutally slaughtered in front of each other, and even just humans trying to interact with them in their environment and so disturbing their way of life. Great video, very eye opening!

  • While I appreciate what she's doing, I think she shouldn't discredit elephants. They have the thickest cerebral cortex after humans. Dolphins are a distant 4th, after chimps. The cerebral cortex is normally associated with higher cognitive processes/complex intelligence; thinking, memories, emotions, self-awareness, etc. But no one ever makes a case for elephants being "persons." Elephants mourn their dead and help the dying, even if they aren't related.

  • @Caqui Cows and pigs are just as sentient. It's time the human race stops ignoring the obvious and begins acting like an intelligent species.

  • @Caqui missing the point a little... rnt u?

Dee Eggers is an exceptional contributor ( to life as we know it...).

  • Thank you Dee Eggers for your work and this lecture I am very grateful. Thank you to the people who put all of this together, and the camera man. You guys are doing a great job.

  • @biogeniclife You are welcome (camera and edit crew). If you have any ideas on where to share this video, please let me know. Thanks! -DB

  • "The fact that its hard makes the fact that its optional irrelevant" AMEN!! Excellent, excellent take on dolphins and our world as a whole.
