  • Encantadora versión de los ManTrans!!

    Charmin' rendition with a plus!

    .)

  • Now thats more like it.....some of these post's just destroy Les Paul and Mary Fords great hit.............

  • great singing - who is the flute player? nice

  • @EverythingProS She's the one playing the flute.

  • Buddy Williams is a master drummer. He's on my 12 tune Cd that is being mixed now.

  • good music can withstand many different interpretations ... and this is a good one.

    . o O ( but I still like Les Paul and Mary Ford's better)...

  • @louswire their better version is on the cd Bop Do Wopp

  • Junto con Weather Report, los más escuchados por mí allá en los 80s, fantásticos!!!

Muy agradecida por haberla compartido conmigo, Leo, me trajo muy buenos recuerdos y vaya que si los necesitaba hoy!

    ;)

  • They aint no Les Paul and Mary Ford that's fuh shore.

  • As much as I love Les Paul and Mary Ford's original version, The Manhattan Transfer does a magnificant cover of this song. The original artists are most often very pleased when other artists cover their songs, and I'd risk a guess that Les Paul approved!

  • @TheFRiNgEguitars: Les Paul made a famous recording (1951), sure; but not the original: How High the Moon: Music by Morgan Lewis; Lyrics by Nancy Hamilton (1940).

  • @benjaminlhaines Yes, and it was first performed in the Braoadway show, "Two for the Show". Ella Fitzgerald also recorded a scat version of "How High the Moon". I accept a demerit for not crediting the songwriters. However, the first popularized version of any song will usually be recognized (arguably) as the "original version" (that many people know) which the artists are given full credit!

  • @TheFRiNgEguitars Fair enough. Speaking of Ella scatting, have you checked out that awesome [forgive tired, over used word] 6 1/2 minute clip on youtube of Ella scatting? Do! For all I know, you might have posted it.

  • @TheFRiNgEguitars Right you are, Steve. Who appreciates a really good song more than another musician? I don't think anybody does - because a musician knows what it takes to get the sound just right. They've made the song their own. To say one is better than the other is like saying, "Which child do you love most?" We just love them both. Les Paul/Mary Ford was unique. Manhattan Transfer is unique. We're the lucky ones because we get to hear both.

  • yeah man... people are crazy for thumbs downing that statement brother.

  • Que Guitarrista !

  • I like it. I like MT.

  • Sounds like a tribute to Les Paul and Mary Ford.

  • @mortygwhiz Yes, very much so. I'm slightly surprised they didn't go back to Benny Goodman's version instead for inspiration in making their own version. (Even his version wasn't the original; the song first appeared in a movie soundtrack, but it was the first hit version.) But the Les Paul and Mary Ford version is very well known.

  • Lots of soul ! love it!

  • They have a great vocal balance, but yah I find them to be a bit shallow.. wish there musical selection was a bit more obscure or even written for them.

  • Wish granted! Look under your christmas tree.

  • @Skygerobrian I thought they wrote a lot of their own arrangements, no?

  • gotta love the harmony...gives me chills

  • this sounds like the arrangment by steve zegree....is it?

  • Wow! I remember listening to the Les Paul and Mary Ford original over and over when I was a kid, but this is special. And the guitarist lays down some serious licks on that axe!

  • Wonderful way to Jazz.. Brillant harmony and the Band was awesome... go guitarist !!

  • I am so happy for this. Manhattan Transfer were and are unique.

  • Really dig Wayne Johnson's solo. Awesome!

  • ok... so they didn't have 14 track over-dub... it still sounds great!

  • i think they should have 8 people instead of 4. it's funny they were on home improvement and said their names were Tim and Allen and whaddayaknow? It's true

  • its nice..but they completely shattered this song..ella fitz did such a nice job..and it was beautiful..i dont like this version as much..but to someone somewhere..this is there baby..so i have to say its ok..=]....

  • Why did they shatter it? It´s just a standard, their close harmonies are nearly perfect, the band is great - so where´s the problem?

  • i think the words deserve a little more then a fast tempo a good band and good harmonies..thats all..the best part that i think did just was the girls solo in the middle..but its still too fast....

  • do you know this is Manhattan Transfer right?

  • very good. Guitar & musicans are awsome. Beautiful harmont..

  • I love this song. Nice Harmony, Nice players!
