oh my, I came across this by chance (like so much on yt), and I've just realised the music is unmistakably by John Barry who died this week, rip. Will be sadly missed, he composed some of the most beautiful music I've heard.

Unfortunately the film says that Yanko from Russia but actually it is not true ,in fact Yanko representative of the Ukrainian nation and Ukrainian culture, during the entire film using Ukrainian language ,as well was used Ukrainian folk dance.

Yanko is not from fucking Russia ,he is from Ukraine .For centuries, Ukraine was divided between different empires. During the period referred in the film, Ukraine was divided between the Russian Empire and Austro-Hungarian Empire. Kyiv was within the Russian Empire, and part of the Carpathian Ukraine (where was born Yanko) was part of Austria-Hungarian Empire.

How brave he was to travel from his country to a different land following his goals and dreams, leaving yhis family, homeland and friends behind... I would never be able to do that, the homesickness would kill me, I would wonder each day how my people is, how much my nephews have grown, if my parents are healthy and growing old loved by my siblings, etc. Nope you need to be very brave and independant to do that, but a part of your heart will always be missing in the roots of your country.

All the outdoor scenes were filmed in Cornwall, The market scene was filmed in Port Isaac, the shipwreck scene was filmed in Port Quin (the exterior of the chapel and shops (that Rachel and baby were shouted at by boys) were made of wood and dont really exist there) The farms, cliffs and moorland scenes were all filmed on Bodmin Moor. My two sons were extras and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This movie is stunning. I think all the acting is superb. Makes me want now to read the short story it's based on. John Barry's score is wonderful. I just finished watching it for the second time; only gets better with deeper meaning on second viewing. The scenery is so gorgeous - Cornwall, I believe.
