In this track there are two songs one jazz and one hip hop. The main one is " A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane and another is "Somethin that mean somethin" by Pharcyde.
signature . the sig could be 11 / 18 n in sum cases in contemporary "classical" (since classical is an era not a genre) look at ur history books. but music can change time signatures every measure .. think of it that ways a 4/4 to a 3/2 to a 6/8 (but u can subdivide a 6/8 to make it sound 4/4) its all playing with time signatures .and how many notes your can put into a time signature dats all.. im waitin for sumone to contradict me .. since i kno my music history and theory .. BRING IT LOL!!
im musician and have been so for a while . this style here a neo soul jazzy type is what is catching many ears of musicians and non musicians just people who are getting into the truest essence of music. which people say wow james brown is good music white snake is good music. but the true definition of music as told by history originated from the paleolithic era. music in definition is organized sound .. who is to say which time signature that sound can be in or even if it is a subdivided time
Go see it? I hear it now. What's the big deal? Songs chopped up and truncated with the time signatures sped up - how is this not "scattered jumble"? Music should effect the soul. Do you even remember what you've heard the following day after hearing this trio? Please enlighten me.
Music sometimes just should expand the mind, i mean, sometimes you get so stuck by the things you hear on the radio, that hearing this like these makes you go: oh. I didn't know this was possible. It may just affect your mood. But I think you're confusing catchy songs with the concept of music itself. Let's say, if a Jonas Brothers song it's so catchy i can remember it the next day, they reached my soul deeper?
I understand your point. I am NOT a radio-rotation music type of person. Personally, I despise most "pop stuff" that's played on the radio. I am simply wondering, If this (what Chris Dave is playing) is really good or simply a lot of hype? And please don't mention the Jonas Brothers - that's "cookie-cutter" BS at its finest..
the question "is this really good or just a lot of hype" can't be answered with logic or reasoning. it's irrelevant. it's music, it is what it is. just listen without the need to interpret and you may be surprised
That answer sounds like a big cop-out. I've spoken to a lot of musician friends who can actually play & who are very successful. We all came to the same conclusion. These guys are average (Chris Dave is the better of the three), but because most people don't know what musicianship really is, so they all think that this is good. It sounds like "hype" to me.
I agree. Chris Dave is a good drummer. I'm just wondering if what his "trio" is doing is really music, or just scattered notes - meaning the sax player and the great Foley.
@fnkdrmmr, look at you, you give us a name of one of your 'friends' cuz you felt the need to show some credibility. On youtube, you're still one of us, buddy. Congratulations for failing at life.
fnkdrmmr dude music is not a competition. its not about being better than one another. its a language. and some people just speak it differently. just because someone does not play music that you personally enjoy, it does not mean its bad. if you dont like it than dont listen to it. but dont criticize other people for being unique or obsqure in their music. Music has been around forever. and people have discovered countless ways of making it. this is just their own way.
maybe this music doesnt effect your soul. but just think for one second that it may effect someone elses. its just a matter of opinion and personal taste. I for one find it very interesting what they have done here. I wouldnt consider it relaxing or music to go to bed by, but it certainly getsme interested, trying to figure it out. if you dont like it, go listen to something that you do like. ever listen to Komarov's Fall by Brett Dean? confusing as hell but its a stirring piece of music
dean captures perfectly, an essence of panic in what you may call "scattered notes." you probably would not enjoy it from what ive seen but there are plenty of people who do, and there must be plenty of people who enjoy this. its not up to you to decide for them. i dont mean any offence by this. i just wanted to state my opinion.
you're missing the point though. i'm not trying to argue over whether this is good or not. it just seems that your perceptions are being clouded by concepts, and you hear it and immediately label it "crazy" and start thinking about it without truly listening. as if the ideas about the music somehow show us more clearly what it really is. when in fact it is what it is and only exactly what it is, nothing more. i'm not saying you or anybody should like it, just suggesting to reserve judgement
@fnkdrmmr, if you and your so-called musician friends haven't heard of a concept called JAZZ, then you've failed in realizing in what exactly is goin on here! No pun intended. I think you're just lookin a lil too hard for somethin you're not seein. I've done that before.
These guys can care fuckin less about pursuing their technical abilities. They're playing straight from the soul. These guys are spilling their guts before you, and THAT in itself is the very essence of what's happenin here.
Keyboard fan? I"ll take that as a serious offense. I've been doing what I've been doing for exactly as long as you. It's music snobs like you that dissect shit to the max and fail to understand the purpose of music. Can't appreciate new sounds. Go ride Marsalis's hip-hop hating dick, old man.
No, really, you're an old man. And probably way passed your prime. And you're not the only one with connects, pal. Just remember my alias and I'll see you at the top...when you're 50.
You and your "musical" friends sound like a bunch of stupid fucking people. Chris dave average? Foley average? If you did any sort of research or listening on these players maybe you would realize how completely ignorant you are. Foley played for miles davis, Chris dave has played with erykah badu, robert glasper, kenny garrett, mos def... I supposed thats a bunch of hype too?
does anyone know the concept behind the trio's style of music? this groove for example. is chris dave pasting his beat on the double time triplet metre of the original time?
Well.. I don't think it's as Mathematical as you would think. Chris Dave just Goes and Foley just goes. they have The most Amazing Time and its an Unearthly Marriage between Hip-Hop and Street Jazz. Not your Conservatory Bull shit -ii-v-i One runaround. This is Creative Exellents at it's Rawest. Thats why Glasper uses Chris dave. He has this concept of drums that cannot be described in words. but! It just feels so damn good. Hopefully that sheds some light on the Duo+1 ^ ^
@hiblacom when it comes to filming musicians you should let us see everything they are doin cause all of it is CRAZY. Thank you very much for putting this up, it was amazing to listen to but we arent clickin on this video to see the special effects you put on it.
This one was smashing! The next 't wo music' gig will be WILL VINSON/KURT ROSENWINKEL GROUP (New York) on 29th and 30th of April. They will play only originals! Yes!

this would be an awesome video if it wernt for the stop motion, chis dave is too quick to catch at 24fps

It would be sick if the stop motion was synchronized with the song, otherwise it just looks like a lagging video.
