My Uncle Enoch Franklin (Far Right) is the only member still alive. I just visited him on the Xmas Holiday's. We often call each other on the phone and sing some of those old songs.
I loved this 45 rpm. It was one of the records that started my musical interest in playing keyboards. Anyone with any info on downloading this song and "Open Our Eyes"?
I have looked everywhere for this song and to think I would find it on youtube. I grew up listening to this on the B side of the open our eyes 45 record (did I really just say 45?) lol. Thank you for this posting. and God bless you
My dad booked them in Boston often."So Good" was big then and "Open Our Eyes". We had them at Jordan Hall. Ran Blake was a good friend of the family. The Chimes,The Bradford Specials and the Cleffs were the best with this Style.
I am just blessed tonight, finding all of my favorites, and this is one group that you can't help but love. Yes the most of them are gone, but thank God for the 2 that still remain. And It also tells me that I should go visit Uncle Frank. He sand at my husband's funeral. Thank you Sister D
When did Leon Lumpkins pass, I remember when I wanted a dose of his fabulous voice , I would visit Perry Funeral Home in Newark where he was the staff musician. I spoke to him right before thanksgiving last year! wow. RIP <Leon,. the gospel clefs were awesome.
The two leads, Enoch Franklin and Joe Deloach (famous for his "Go Down Go Down") happen to be the only surviving members of this fine group. If you detect a Ward Singers quality, you're not wrong. Leon's idol was Clara Ward, and, like Raymond Rasberry with his Rasberry Singers, Snookie adapted her concepts to male voices.
I really want and need a copy of the album with open our eyes, big wheel, wings of a dove, etc.Pray tell, can you help me?I'm referring to the Gospel Clefs
