  • Great video!!! Now do 5 :3

  • The reason i loved SC3 was the warrior rode mode. Where you could create your own fighter with his own fighting style, and then go through an entire level grinding RPG like story.

  • Eh I bought SC4... it wasn't worth it... hence the reason I bought it used.. SC3 was cool as hell wish they would have brought back some features from it in SC5.. witch is like SC4... only slightly better.... very slightly.

  • Sorry did I hear cleavage with yoda poking out of it, i'm interested.

  • Funny how he uses World of Warcraft as an example of a "good" game.

  • @Jordkent1 He never says good game, he says complete game.

  • @Jordkent1 World of Warcraft is a good game. It have everything a game need to be good. Whether you like it or not is a matter of taste. The mechanic in WOW is good.

  • Fighting games don't stack well against your criteria simply because none of what you pointed out matters. Fighting games simply aren't that great unless you've got a friend (or four, if we're talking Super Smash Brothers) to play them with you.

Partially excepting BlazBlue, simply because its characters and story are sometimes so off-the-wall its refreshing.

  • @SomeOtherTroper

The same could be true of dying of cancer. At least then they take you skydiving. Btw, digging the username.

  • that is only to the dumbasses who agree that hurting a poor and defenceless animals is fucking funny. i will put them all in a giant ass microwave and blow there fucking brains all over it.

  • -.- ass holes. go to hell. because u all are bastards and deserve to go to a hell whith fucking giant fucking flying cats that kick the shit out of u every fucking moment of your dreary fucking lame ass life.

  • I only have one problem with 99% of fighting games. WHY CANT I MOVE? In most fighting games, you double-tap a directional to move, but a single hit stops you in your tracks. So I end up shuffling back and forth spamming ranged attacks. The only game i've seen to offer an alternative is Hisoutensoku.

  • what is the name of the technical difficulties song?

  • Stop being bad and hating games that are skilled base....you a bieber fan bro?

  • @XJuzieX stop being gay and hating good videos that are made by a honest british person who reviews things ... you gay bro?

  • @zboyultra Yeah man im so gay I blindly defend videos youtube just cuz my favourite male reviewer made them. This guy doesn't even understand how to review a fighting game but because he gets a free 46k views he does it anyway. This review is completely flawed the only the only thing worth listening to is his opinion on the customization options.

  • @XJuzieX these arnt real reveiws it just him pointing out flaws

  • @zboyultra he australian

  • @zboyultra

Oh leave the deluded fool (XJuzieX) be since he is too busy giving sucking IGN's cock and giving GameSpot a hand-job at the same time to give a rational response since this 'review' is not based on petty numbers

  • Minimap Quest game. I lol'd

  • hey that cat part is not fucking funny.

  • @azzinderkitty Right, because kids don't harm animals out of morbid curiosity. It's a joke of reality. Deal with it.

  • @azzinderkitty Yes it is. Fuck you.

  • I'm a bit confused. It's been a while since I've played Soul Calibur 4, but I want to say that, at least on hard mode, the enemies counter most of your throws. I know this happens in Tekken 6 (created by the same company), and I can almost remember it happening in SC4. Am I wrong, or is Ben Croshaw just lying for the sake of proving is point (or, perhaps, just to be funny)?

  • I get the feeling Yahtzee would get his ass handed to him in Blazblue. :I

  • @CWCisntGod Lol. Yeah, who doesn't get wrecked in BlazBlue? BlazBlue and UMvC3 are my favorite fight games but while I can hold my own in MvC, I get destroyed in BlazBlue. I guess some people just love fight games and others don't get it.

  • @CWCisntGod I quote the intro: "I don't get fighting games [...] I've certainly never frosted my pants over them"

  • Fighting games are definitely only appreciated by those who are born with some sort of genetically inherited love for them,

and while I agree that throwing people is an easy way out, that really only works when you're playing on easy mode - take it from someone who has wasted half their life playing the franchise!

  • I wanted to get this game, until I played it at a friends house and discovered the only real reason I wanted it was so I could play as Darth Vader, and after playing it after about half an hour i decided I didnt want it anymore. and Ezio is probably the only reason I want to getSoul Calibur V.

  • Ben nailed me to the wall with this one. The only reason I ever played Soul Calibur 4 was to beat the snot out of cousin young enough to hate girls with a huge-boobed custom character named "Boobninja" that I created solely for my own immature enjoyment. I spent a long time analyzing stats and developing skills in single-player to make an unbeatable fighter, but I just ended up throwing my way to victory against boy and machine with the occassional awesome combo to break the monotony.

  • I love fighters, they're 70% of what I play >.>

    Still love this guys reviews.

  • i didnt mind it. had fun with it with my mates for a few months

  • I still prefer Soul Blade. :|

  • @LastRemanent

Ditto here, soul blade was great for its time.

After soul calibur 2 I lost interest because nothing could top playing as link also the story got way out of hand.

  • soul caliber 4=small child putting the cat in a tumble dryer

  • @AJMontyBird:

    @RazorRaiden:

@Asaba32: Monkeys at a typewriter. Have a leaderboard topper go 15 rounds against a career buttonmasher, and see what the numbers are. I DARE you. ALL o' you.

  • Yeah, the "Story" Mode is complete shit... but I do thoroughly enjoy beating the hell out of people with the Mary Poppins character I made.

  • @KMxHearts Mary Poppins LOL, that is awesome.

I personally found SC2 and SC3's 1 Player mode to be more enjoyable then SC, yeah it was not the best, but It never became painfully boring to get the money to unlock weapons and stuff like it is in SC4.

  • @KMxHearts I use Obama XD

  • A question to yahtzee: What would be the perfect game?

  • @ClayDemond2300 Portal with tits.

  • @commandercow01 Figured.

  • @Ledgendveemon: It is weird how acting like a complete and unrepentant dick makes for a nearly automatic multiplayer win in fighters, but I don't think it's the same for FPS's at all. For one thing, there's hand-eye coordination, for another there's tactics, and for a third, reflexes. Also timing. I'm not going to say those aren't a part of most videogames, but they can pretty much be thrown out the window where fighters are concerned. In multiplayer, anyway.

  • @BASArtemis92 You must not know how to play fighting games or have never played anyone who has any skill. I dare you to play Daigo Umehara or Broken Latif in Super Street Fighter IV AE and say they have know skill, hand-eye coordination, or reflexes. Fighting games are about one-on-one showdowns in which one must prove their skill and dexterity as well as their ability to anticipate their opponent's next move, and provide a series of viable counter options. It's more complicated than you think.

  • @Asaba32

Sorry to butt in, but really, I've never once played a fighter that requires anything more than button-mashing and a little bit of luck. It's certainly always worked in Soul Calibur, since I honestly couldn't be arsed to memorize combos *shrug*

  • @AJMontyBird dude...just because most of the players are spammers and buttonmashers doesnt mean you will beat some1 who is on top of the leaderboards...although I'd like to see you try that...it would be like spanking a kid...where in you would be the kid...for example...back in my days of naruto rise of a ninja...not many people could actually kick my @ss...and probably I'd still win your @ss if they would give you 15 hours of gameplay on it...fcking nub...

  • @AJMontyBird fighting games become fun when you play with people that know how to play and give you tips on it...because when you transcend to a level where you use fast-paced tactics...you will understand fighting games...

  • You people have some of the most charming idioms!

  • How about setting two people against each other and seeing who wins? By which I mean multiplayer.

  • Buy a gun!

    In my mouth!

  • Caliber

  • Good fighting games are like playing chess with asymmetrical piece sets. Say one character gets 4 knights but no bishops, for instance. Except it's live action, and not turn based; so twitch-reflexes come heavily into play. There's usually one character that's "7 Queens" (like Kilik in said title here), and scrubs that think they're hot shit until they're easily outsmarted and swiftly outplayed by the 7-knights one (IE: throw button, lol).

Also, both suck to play alone.

  • I will agree on your tie-in point, though. It reeks of attention desperation. This game is no SoulCalibur III by any means; which is a far superior game to this. And if you do like single-player action and challenge, it's RTS-like "Chronicles of the Sword" mode is the kind of experience you seem to be expecting.

Story, strategy, mastery of different weapon styles, and gameplay more deep than just a throw button abounds in that PS2 gem. SC IV seems very minimal in comparison.

  • 2:40

It's a lie... come at me, Yahtzee

  • You wouldn't buy something with a picture of a half naked girl on the side and Yoda peeking out of her cleavage? Buy me you must hhhmmmmmmmmm.

  • I haven't played any SC, but I thought that the swords (Forgot their names) were awarded to Sigfread at the end of soul blade - thus the creation of nightmare, and the SC games built on that?

  • @lolzomgz1337 I can't say it's any more in-depth than that, but the focus is more on the demonic sword(s) that Nightmare carries more than Nightmare. Sometimes the German has it, sometimes the Frenchman, and sometimes the pirate, but the goal is always to get the sword. When the sword gets smashed in half and the shards are made into two swords from the same sword, and then a third sword which is totally different gets introduced, that's where the complexity of the storyline begins.

  • @Zaidon7 Okay...so er....Just to clarify...Sigfreads ending from Soul Blade (The first one for the PS1) is the only cannon ending then?

  • @lolzomgz1337 Raphael is the official winner of SoulCalibur 2.

  • @Zaidon7 Soul Blade is not SC2 :3

  • Depends if your local weed dealer is at your local game store and you smoke alot of weed 0:31

  • @zelldot lol I've done that. XD

  • To win at any game for ever all you need to do is to drag the HAT slider all the way to max

  • There was so much shitty characters in this game

  • @TheManiacbiscuit you must be playing it wrong then bro.

  • @Br0adHead Not shitty as in bad moves or controls, I mean that most of the bonus characters are recycled or crap

  • @TheManiacbiscuit Well there is only 4 bonus characters I suppose with moves copied off another player, but those were added just as a skin more than anything. especially when there are 24 character styles not including Vader or Yoda. Reason i said "must be playing it wrong" is because most people that truly hate fighting games like this usually cannot memorize moves or get the combos down. Soulcalibur 4 is really one of the higher end fighting games.

  • What's he name of the technical difficulties song?

  • DO TF2!

  • @Tubes4Noobs He already did.

  • @Tubes4Noobs he did orange box

  • So the proverbial cake is... a lie?

  • SC3 was better. However neither have blood which is dumb.

  • i beg to differ i liked the game storymode is good with branching paths and theres an awesome rts/fighting mode

  • Me and my brothers used to play a lot of soul calibur, it's actually a lot of fun when you are competing against each other. The strategy part of the campaign in SC3 was a TON of fun when we played it together. I never bought SC4 because I have no one to play it with. Yahtzee didn't mention the multiplayer, but in reality that's the key bit.

  • Who´s the Twat at 2:22 ? XD

  • @RiderRohans Yahtzee himself.

    Think before you talk.

  • @TheAxelMiller I was joking dickhead. think before thinking!

  • Apparently I offended you. Take a chill pill. Jeez.

  • That creature at the end is Ichigo Kurosaki! :O

  • WOO EARTHBOUND.

  • ....it's not even worth answering to. i mean to the nerds arguing or trying to have the last word with....a video. i don't even wanna know what you're really talking about. but go ahead and type away. i'm not even gonna read it, let alone care.

  • so glad you love EarthBound!

  • Yay he likes earthbound!

  • I like the Soul Calibur games, but I agree with some of the criticisms of this one; the story mode really was insubstantial. They did a much better job with it in the previous games.

  • try the tower of lost souls

  • holy crap i got 666th view :D

  • I can see where you're coming from with all of your criticisms but I feel like your finalized analysis missed something important, and maybe I'm the one who missed something but anyway here goes: Competitiveness. That's all there is the fighting games. They're not designed for story or in-depth customization, they're just designed for friends to compete with each other or with other players online. that's it. You've already explained you don't care for that sort of thing so meh but still...

  • @WhisperThorn You can't give a game a good review if everything sucks except for the ridiculously competitive multiplayer that gets boring in half a day.

  • @JohnnyCade3 Um if you don't play with a friend or online there is no point to a fighting game. That's what fighting games are. And 'gets boring in half a day' is your opinion, and it's an opinion that can be applied to any multiplayer console game, because they are all extremely repetitive. That means said games are designed for people who are in games for the competition. If you're not that guy, then Soul Calibur is not for you. Make sense?

  • @WhisperThorn A game reviewer has to factor in all aspects of the game. He can say its fun but he can't say its well built if the story is awful, which Yahtzee seems to think. And yeah I know the fighting genre isn't for me but it isn't for Yahtzee either so again, can't give it much of a positive review.

  • @WhisperThorn A good game should be able to stand by itself on single player. If a game is really 'great' then it wouldn't need multiplayer as an excuse.

  • @XsupadumbassX sorry i replied to this by phone so apparently it either sent it as a pm or not at all. anyway, that is a very incorrect thing to say. There are games that are meant to be single-player focused and games that are not. Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur, and all other 1v1 Fighter games are made with the implication that you will either play with friends or online. If you don't like that kind of thing, don't get the game, but it doesn't make the game bad. It is what it is.

  • @XsupadumbassX If your playing a fighting game for its single player, you either have a sad life or suck at fighting games... or both. I understand what you mean, but with game balancing, Single player is less important.

  • @WhisperThorn How to win at (insert generic fighting game name here) :

    1) Smack around with every button OR use the throw button every time.

    2) Use that untill you have beaten everyone you wanted to beat.

    3) ?????

    4) Profit...?

  • @edgecutterman You sound like a complete NOOB. go online, and try your method, and come back and tell us how it went.

  • @miyodarius Well, excuuuuse me....I play decent games instead of button mashers.

I once tried a fighting game.

I won everything online, hardest difficulty and all using one move OVER and OVER.

  • @edgecutterman LOL you "won everything online on hardest difficulty." how do you play and win things online?! You can't win things online (except achievements) and you can't play CPU online! What a RETARD. Dude, go sit down before you hurt yourself. Fighting games are too advanced for you.

  • @miyodarius What I meant with "won everything online" I meant, I WON EVERY SINGLE MATCH WITH ANYONE I COULD POSSIBLY PLAY WITH!

    And you autist.

If you had any language skills you would understand that when I played single player, I played hardest difficulty, and I won that TOO.

By the way, that LOL means you're laughing, and laughing is a natural act of defense from the primates, so what you're doing is trying to defend yourself from getting humiliated from me.

  • @edgecutterman I respect your method of trying to bash your way through this argument with your logic. But I have 2 questions for you that will solve all of this. What system do you own, and name any fighting game you own. I want you to show me your "button mashing".

Honestly, the fact that you only tried a fighting game once, tells me your full of it, and have no idea what your talking about.

  • @miyodarius Glad it's getting a tad more civilized.

I own a PS3 but that has nothing to do with my only time fighting game experience.

I played a flash based fighting game years ago (and once virtua fighter at a friend's house).

I don't quite recall wich name it was but it was something with that kid cartoon Avatar.

But yeah, I'm going to be honest, I played fighting game once or twice.

It didn't appeal to me, just pushing buttons and never thinking.

So as you can tell, I play strategy games.

  • @edgecutterman let me get this straight. You've played 1 fighting game 1x, you don't own any fighting games, and you played them for the single player... This is just a case of being too bias. Until you fight against a good player, you'll never have to think.

This is a message to you and all the NOOBs out there

I understand free speech, but If you have no idea about something, don't talk as if you understand it. And if I catch a button masher playin against me, Ima troll them til they quit.

  • @miyodarius I played several fighting games against friends too though.

Not an awful long time though because I was bored out of my mind.

So I kind of know what I talk about.

But I'm probably not in the position to argue.

  • @WhisperThorn he doesnt read comments and your on the wrong site for them anyway

  • @runnergunner42 I'm aware and I've noticed he doesn't reply to the comments on the escapist website either. I just felt like commenting nonetheless.

  • @WhisperThorn if you want to play a competitive game there are lots of board games that are better than sc4

  • @usernamemyass01 and if you want to post stupid and unhelpful comments there are lots of Vevo videos that are more suited for such an activity.

  • @WhisperThorn but there are a slew of competitive games that dont suck as much as sc4, thats what i was saying no need to get all pissy.

  • Comment removed

  • @Tinhh If you dont' like it don't play it. Other people enjoy competitive games that involve that kind of fighting. it's an aesthetic thing and a taste thing. just because it's not YOU'RE thing doesn't mean it's bad. what is so hard to understand about this stuff?!

  • @WhisperThorn You waste your breath because he is never going to read that. This wasn't uploaded by him and he doesn't read any comments not even on the escapist website plus he probably doesn't care what you think anyway :/

  • @nowayimdeadlol I replied to runnergunner42 4 weeks ago expressing that I already knew this but thanks for telling me anyway. And I dont' expect him to care what I think, but does that mean I shouldn't call out bullshit when I see it? Or would you rather I be one of the countless morons who worship this guy and agree with him no matter what he says? Don't get me wrong I think he's very funny but i'm allowed to have an opinion of my own, get it?

  • @WhisperThorn Unless they invent something that allows him to stab people in his team over the internet.

  • @WhisperThorn He doesn't have friends :C.

  • @WhisperThorn He looks more at the bad side of games not the good points.

  • @WhisperThorn I played against a veteran of this game and won button mashing. Fighters take about as much effort as FPS.

  • @Ledgendveemon i honestly have no idea why you're posting this or why you think i'd care. it has nothing to do with anything i've said, so why are you wasting my time? i guess i'm proud of you for getting lucky? have fun with that. try playing MvC3 some time and just button mash all the time while online and see how frequently you win. or do whatever i really don't care.

  • @WhisperThorn Meh I only rented that game; those lame 2d fighters are boring.

  • @Ledgendveemon and that more or less sums up why your opinion don't mean shit here. if you don't like fighter games why the fuck are you even commenting?

  • @Ledgendveemon Are you implying that First Person Shooters don't take skill?

  • @LiNaK37 Yes. Noob Toobs and spray and pray take no skill.

  • no comments and 165 veiws aaand no likes...wtf?
