Explain why? Explain why the most highly tuned drag cars run just the manifold branches and nothing else. You do NOT need backpressure thats a bad thing. EXPLAIN WHY? The valves are closed on the compression and power stroke. WHY would exhaust pressure have anything to do with this? All pressure does is make it harder for the piston to travel up on the exhaust stroke sapping energy from the firing piston. I own 2 RS's and work on them for a living. Specialising in pinto and CVH

Every naturally aspirated 4 stroke gasoline or methanol engine will run it's best with no back pressure ie drag car's that your talking about :P

Virtually all carburettors and fuel injection systems were designed for engines that are muffled and have some back pressure. The result is many times when back pressure is reduced or eliminated the fuel curve is disturbed and the engines often loose low end torque because of the mismatched lean fuel curve.
