  • Pre Heroin addiction

  • gangsta!

  • Layne music was not glorifying dope = he wanted people to learn from him RIP brother

  • @patmac573

    You're absolutely right!

  • @patmac573 "So I made a big mistake" . . .

  • @dkubick try to see it once my way...

  • I love their sun glasses.

  • jerry cantrell is the fucking man, rip layne probably the greatest grunge singer of all time!

  • I would like to be able to hear Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell.... How about you?

  • layne's addiction was past the point of recovery by the time the final AiC tour ended. read the last interview he did before his death. It's too sad for words.

  • @gabiczech I think you meant to say your friend looks like layne

  • Layne Staley-what a badass

  • If someone ever interveaned they would never have become what they were.. Lane needed to be all of the things that he was.. Sad. depressed. Lonely... Addicted.. Sorry if you don't like it but Lane and every member of the band were living in the moment of one of the greatest musical events in history.. witout the Heroin and other drugs... the band never could have made the raw emotions of what they felt so relatable to us...... It was pure .... innocent ... magic.

  • @FSEVENMAN I agree with what you say. without the sadness and drugs their music just wouldn't have that kind of an impact . Its all about the way you live on the road and its a long journey. But they knew how to express it better than anyone else.

  • His girlfreind dieing is what put him over the edge. He was done after that.

  • Couldn't anyone help this poor man? Years doing drugs alone in a filthy condo, his body deteriorating, until his death? It's horrible. Couldn't his family go to court and have him declared incompetent? Down to 80 pounds, his body covered with abcesses and sores, missing teeth, kidney and liver damage, living in filth and still doing more drugs-most judges would establish a temporary conservatorship. His finances & everything would be taken out of his control. Something drastic had to be done.

  • @indiatree WELL... it's called living in a free country, that means you can do things even if others don't like it or agree (: I agree it's tragic, but that's not how you deal with things by law. it doesn't matter how rich I am and how bad I look. you cannot take my money.. bottom line.

  • Comment removed

  • @indiatree Oh OH OH waht? your talking about a mental dysfunction causing one to lose proper ability to function and understand there own decissions properly, THATS DIFFERENT THATS WAY DIFFERENT, , so back to my point, if I want to wither away and die and do drugs in the privacy of my own home THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT< I t's a free country . so sorry to burst your bubble, unless i have a seriously mental disability you cannot touch my money that I HAVE earned, sorry pal

  • Comment removed

  • @indiatree are you really that stupid ? britney was placed in hospital under psychiatric treatment deemed unfit to make her decissions, IDIOT LIKE I FUCKING SAID THE FIRST TIME A MENTALLY SOUND PERSON CANNOT HAVE HIS RIGHTS TAKEN AWAY YOU STUPID STUPID FUCK, god damn do you really go that far just to look stupid? thats right britney was admitted to a mental facility IDIOT

  • Comment removed

  • @indiatree LOL do you think if you are admitted to a mental facility that anytime in the future after a judge can do that? NO... your pathetic scurry for information is funny, britney was ADMITTED having mental breakdowns right in the middle of episodes. and her father took control. if she had recovered, and was mentally stable and decided to go do drugs and wither away you couldnt do anything about it,, DUMBASS, Layne staley was depressed antisocial and addicted to drugs. U BUTTHURT?

  • Comment removed

  • @indiatree NO actually I contradicted your comment, and then you through some BS examples that involved mental breakdowns. and went to far measures to try and prove me wrong when all you did is make yourself look dumb, ITS a free country, and if Im MENTALLY SOUND and doing drugs and dying.. well.. you can't do anything about it.. and im sorry ur so butthurt that your wrong and must not under stand what a free country is and go around posting the same comment on layne stayley videos. FREEDOM PAL

  • @indiatree @indiatree AGAIN I REPEAT, A JUDGE DOES NOT HAVE THE POWER TO OVERRIDE SOMEONE GIVEN RIGHTS THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE AND AMMENDMANTS ITS REALLY A BEAUTIFUL THING ITS WHAT GIVES US FREEDOM AND MAKES LIVING IN SUCH A COUNTRY SO WONDERFUL I CAN LIVE ANY LIFE STYLE I LIKE AND YOU CAN ASSUME IM DOING DRUGS IN MY HOUSE ALL YOU FUCKIN LIKE YOU MORON BUT YOU STILL CANT DO JACK FUCKING SHIT OR EVERYJUDGE WOULD WRITE SEARCH WARRENTS BASED THERE GUT FEELINGS. YOU ARE SO FUCKING STUPID

  • @indiatree It's not that easy to have a grown adult commited... granted that mybe would of helped, but unlikely. Not sure what got Layne.. maybe fame, maybe drugs... probably drugs.... but it wasn't lack of attention.

  • @indiatree --good point- maybe he was good at eluding those who would try to help him- i wonder if jerry c ever talked about it?

  • @vajraloka1 He was a heroin addict. He just got famous. Junkies shoot up until they die. Happens all the time unless they get over whatever is making them use in the first place. Its a desire for death as a release and smack is just a few steps back from death. No one has fun on dope, they just escape for a while. Eventually they just dont come back. Im sure tons of people tried to help him. Junkies are just good at hiding and doing what they want. Its essential to the drug use.

  • @indiatree

I really wish someone had. He would probably still be alive today. He really never reached his potential. He had an amazing and very distinguishable voice that set him apart from the rest. Till this day, ppl are still devastated that he's no longer with us :(

  • @indiatree I agree with you man!but sometimes when you have person that is addictic in you family it is hard to do something. But in the end Layne was very sic, they should do something.AiC FOREVER!Greetings from Poland

  • @indiatree the thing is, earlier, yeah maybe. but where he was at, he needed smack to survive, it wouldnt make a difference taking stuff out of his control. he prob. wouldve died without it. so earlier, before it had set in that badly, i always wonder the same thing, couldnt anyone do something? but how do we know how hard everyone tried? or him? you know what they say, junkies can only help themselves if they want to, but of course we want to believe that there was more that couldve been done.

  • @indiatree troubled soul. He souldn't feel good. Sad ending though. I agree

  • @indiatree i lost my cousin to drugs, my family did everything they could to help him but when someone doesnt want to help themselves there is little you could do.

  • @indiatree You can't MAKE someone change, it was Layne's choice (a dumb choice) to keep doing drugs, someone I know was living in their car with no jobs and stealing to make money to buy drugs.

  • @TreverUndeadXpdX It's a choice to start, but it is no choice to keep using in MOST cases. Yes, you can't make someone change, even that was admitted by his band-mates. They said they were going to let it be. They believed Layne could buckle down and quit, but unfortunately did not.

  • Layne was so sexy.

  • I agree man layne was a very funny but shy guy let the gys RIP great songs. Such a tragedy I give cantrell and sean props its probly really tuff right now first lanye then starr dang.

  • OMG !!! Who FUCKING CARES !!! Jesus, the man is dead can't you experts go find someone else to pick away at ??? He was shy, and quiet, and very humble and that is why he is "acting" like a normal person being interviewed. So STFU and listen to what he is actually saying instead of analyzing him relentlessly !!!!

  • Wow, Mike Star is dead. Too bad. Really was rooting for him. He seemed like a cool guy when he wasnt using. Always such a sad loss when you think of the music and what he contributed to AIC. We all have to die sometime I guess.

  • do you think laynes ever smoked pot?

  • @mrkennedy4321

Probably. Starr and Cantrell both did, so it would make sense that Layne did also.

  • @mrkennedy4321

Of course he did the whole band did... but who cares??

  • @mrkennedy4321 Yes, he done pot, crack, heroin everything you can think of.

  • @mrkennedy4321 you are a retard

  • I hate hate hate that I dont understand what they are talking!!!!!!!!!

  • Jerry is looking like an O.G.

  • @IdiotActionFilms No SHIT. lol

  • layne man.. :/

  • Love AiC.

Jerry looks like Jay from "Jay and Silent Bob" here xD

  • @DieByTheDrop hahahha i fuckin love that movie!!!!!!!!!

  • @DieByTheDrop lol he hella looks like jay here

  • the sea of sorrow outfit on layne here

  • Alice in Chains is still forever gonna be the all time greatest band to me, and it is tragic that Layne was speedballing and in turn passed so now we as fans keep his music alive. Respect to the true fans who's lives have been impacted as much as mine just by his words, R.I.P. Layne Staley

  • godsmack is a blatant rip off of aic.....everything they do....sing like them....put out acoustic albums like them......

  • @jtull83 There is absolutely no comparison here!! I dont even see a reason to give that thaught any leverage what so ever!! What a crock of BS!!!

  • @jtull83 Godsmack was an AIC tribute band at one point (so i've read), and took their name from an AIC song. they aren't ripping them off.

  • @jtull83 THANK YOU!

  • Does anyone else notice Sammy Hagar?

  • I CANT STAND THAT LAYNE IS DEAD

AND GODSMACK IS HERE COPYING ALL THERE MATERIAL

    MAKING MONEY OFF IT

  • @ORIGINALXEMPIRE702 Well some would call it tribute some call it influence and I suppose some just refuse to see it any other way than capitalizing. But that's unfortunate. For the record, I don't listen to Godsmack but I can't really see the harm in it.

  • holy shit!! his voice sounds just like Kurts!! thats fuckin weird lol

  • funny how jerry tapped his ciggarrette ashes into laynes cup at 0:32

  • i like how Jerry explains the real meaning to writing a song just like how I used to feel about them

  • Addiction can haunt anyone. Iv battled with alcohol and drugs half my life. Still in battle, every time I allow the chemicals to have control over me, I wonder, is this the last day on earth?

When you HAVE to do something to live then to live to do something, Youre fucked. It robs your spirit, nestles in your brain and takes your will and owns it.

As a person who has done all drugs, I can tell you there is nothing better than getting high off life. Learn to be unique without the help of drugs.

  • @mike74ny Hey man just hold on. It sounds to me that you're on the right track again. Keep up the good work and you'll be fine! Everyone has a black page in his book of life, and is responsible of writing his own book!

  • @ronaldvenhuizen Thanks dude. I appreciate that. I have many 'black pages,' maybe more black then 'white!'

But as I rebuild myself, it will over come those that are dark and those days will become lost in the good that I do now. Peace brother...

  • @mike74ny

Good luck, I hope you find that peace!

  • "It's a fucking song" what a great line!

  • happy bday layne

  • heroin is bad mmkay stick to herb

  • @AddictedToTrees Fuck You Poser Dissin Layne Like That HEROIN IS THA BOMB

  • Did Jerry do heroin ?

  • @atthewhiskey he never did anything. he's a very sober person.

  • @999deauville999

Actually, he did do cocaine for a time. Never heroin, though, and he quit his drug use on his own, something I wish Layne had been able to do.

  • @tinmanluver35 no dude your wrong, In his last interview, given in early 2002 months before his death, Staley admitted, "I know I'm near death, I did crack and heroin for years. I never wanted to end my life this way." And crack is much harder than just cocaine, they even said he most likely died from a Speedball-heroin and cocaine. He never did any harm to anyone but himself and thats why I respect him more than people like michael jackson who do harm towards others.

  • @Jwall7007

Ok, you confused me for a second. But I was talking about Jerry in my last post, not Layne. I know that Layne did crack/heroin and whatever else and that he died from speedball. Someone had said that Jerry never did anything and was always sober. I was replying and saying that wasn't true, because he (Jerry, that is) did in fact do cocaine for a time.

  • @tinmanluver35 im pretty sure the whole band did smack, pretty much all grunge bands in the era did it, im damn near 100% jerry did it for a while, some people just have better self control,

  • Can someone please tell me the name of the song playing at the beginning

  • what year was this 92?

  • @TheExploit91 91, it says at the beginning

  • I wonder what Layne was thinking about before he died.

    I just wonder.

  • @dontkeepthisname not you.

  • I hear all the time.. " Lane wa a junky" Ok for thoes clueless people you should read the last rolling stone interview. Lane said it all too clearly. It was in detail of what was going to become of lane and nobody cared. The problems he had from his life are explained. There was more to Lane than his music.. WE MISS YOU LANE RIP

  • @Wesson4 You can't save someone who doesn't want to save themself. You think noone tried to help him? You know them personally? I see addiction every day because of my work, and I am telling you that only the addict can make that decision. You put them away unwillingly, they will just bide their time until they can get out and score again, unless they truly want to quit. It sucks, but it's the truth.

  • his voice sounds exactly like cobains when he talks, holy shit, its weird cause heroin does something to your voice, it changes when your high

  • @theladieschains2 lol it makes your voice deep, this i know from experience

  • @itsyaboyitsyaboy me too man, i was a horrible heroin addict. but laynes voice sounds EXActly like cobains though WOW WEIRD

  • @theladieschains2 i thought the SAME exact thing! haha

  • Lay down Black Gives Way to Blue

    Lay Down I'll remember youuuuuuu...........

    RIP LAYNE STALEY

  • "That's all it is, it's a fucking song" <----some people will never understand this statement.

  • wow cortezangelfish uu wrote all this with good grammer sounding very intelligent the the last sentence it is sad u could of put depresing or something big to match

  • wesson i couldnt agree more, theres alot more they could have done, yes in understand in the end layne would have done what he wanted to anyway but if you can you look in the mirror and say you did everything in your power to help this human being then you will be able to rest your head on your pillow at nite and fall into a peaceful sleep,

  • Layne looks like my friend...:)

  • Anyways bottom line. With a little bit more push i'm sure Layne would still be here. Knocking on his door and telling him to come out, is not showing that you care or want to help him. But having him arrested and placed under medical supervision would have been. That might have saved his life.

  • @Wesson4 Or maybe giving him Ibogaine.

  • To let somebody become that recluse, lock themselves away and slowly kill themselve's is horrible.

His mom, sister, jerry, sean, mike.. should have so much guilt.

Layne was obvisouly mentally ill, with alot of serisous feeling of hate and deppression. Not to mention a heroin addiction.

  • As a die hard AIC fan, and a person with knowledge of law. I must say Layne's family and friends failed HIM HUGELY...

  • What a beautiful man, Layne was.

His music will continue to help so many.

  • @PancreaticExplosion

It's sad but true. But also you gotta think, Layne was a grown fucking man.

  • buenas epocas

  • his voice is very similar to cobain's (talking)

  • @mrtall1994 only the dry throat

  • Love Layne's Glasses here :]

    R.I.P Layne Stayley

  • please fix sinc audio

  • Comment removed

  • remember me heath ledger

  • those sun glasses are fuckin awsome

  • you cant really blame him for being addicted, he tried several times to stop it but he never could he was always being stressed out and it was a way of running away, his ex-fianceé died of drugs then he said something like: "drugs always helped, now they're turning against me". its sad but its real and we should be happy that he is in a better place now far away from that shit, hope he is watching us and singing up there! :)

  • I agree. I know firsthand what it feels like to be a slave to heroin. No amount of will power can set you free. Like someone else said, you just watch yourself dig your grave day after day, and you can't do shit about it. People should have sympathy for heroin addicts, not call them "worthless junkies". That makes you the worthless one for having no compassion for your fellow human beings.

  • what exactly was Layne stressed out about for him to do Drugs as hard as he did? I mean before Demri died what was bothering Layne so bad that he needed drugs to help him?

  • You don't have to be depressed, stressed ,pissed, happy or sad to do drugs. Sometimes people do drugs just to get high. Hell, I did and Im thankful Im still here.

  • @JadaBlaze01 His dad left him and his mom as a child and then turned up once Layne was famous but only used his son for money to score drugs which he already had addiction problems with for years. Imagine being adopted and always wondering who your parents are only to have them contact you when you become famous and they just use you for money for drugs.

  • @420Guitar420 I understand that but Layne still had a stepfather growing up its not like he didnt have a father figure at all,Layne's father was married to his Mother and they divorced when he was 7, but yes that did cause trauma for Layne being used by his biological father, Layne had to know who his real father was cause he was married to his mother up until the age of 7.

  • @JadaBlaze01 I'd also assume he had trouble with depression and addiction based on his genetics.

  • @420Guitar420 yes that could possibly be a reason too Genetics.

  • @capatchini I agree with you and agree with jholdaw2 completely. A person with an addiction like Layne, or me for that matter, like opiates/benzos, ect...,can't just control the "illness". In my opinion, even when I pray and do every thing in my power to try and stop, I find an almost invisible urge that drives me to the drugs again. Its almost like a magnet. I'm not in anyway dumb, and neither was Layne, and neither of us or so many people choose addiction. I experimented and got hooked. RIP

  • @capatchini your so right. I struggled with opiate addiction for a number of years. It sucks cause it's so powerful

  • cantrell looks like a BOSS

  • Part of the problem for Layne is that his addictions had become part of his persona. To understand you need to look back to the early days of AIC. The Facelift tour and their 'Live At the Moore (theater)' show (VHS) show Layne at his best. His vocals were some of the very best that I have ever seen, just a lot of power and energy. After 'Dirt' he was never quite the same guy. If you saw him in 1989 and then again in 1996 you wouldn't believe it is the same guy. We all loved him anyway. It is sad.

  • Layne was so much more than his Addiction!!!!He Was One of the Sweetest and Humble and Kind Dude you could ever want to be around!!I personally had that Honor!!

  • Exactly.. just like the difference between 1989's and 1994's Kurt Cobain..

  • @cortezangelfish , why he degraded then ? depresion cause of his gf?, is there more to this interview pls? he llooks like CObain a lot

  • @cortezangelfish every album after dirt kicked ass as well

  • @cortezangelfish Thats what my older brother has told me. In some of AIC's later concerts he went to, Layne was so fucked up on Heroin he'd forget lyrics right in the middle of a song.

  • @cortezangelfish and what finished him was demri dying

  • @cortezangelfish His Addiction Was His Persona Even On Facelift And Dirt Read The Lyrics

  • @PlowThrough8 he didnt talk about smack on facelift, however he does ALOT on dirt, i dont think he got hooked till after facelift, he started using when his dad came back in his life and they started getting high together and he got hooked on H, his dad started coming around because of the success of Facelift....their first album

  • @itsyaboyitsyaboy Are You Kidding Love Hate Love, Put You Down, I Know Something All About Heroin He Was Doin H Before Evrything. That Shit Was His Inspiration Check Your Facts Man. But At Least Your A Fan

  • @PlowThrough8 negative ghost rider, he wasnt hooked on H before chains came about, he got hooked when his dad started coming around, read some of his interviews. His dad was a junkie, thats why he was around his whole life until he got famous. Then he started coming around and they did drugs together and layne got hooked on smack

  • @itsyaboyitsyaboy Really This Is A Stupid Arguement. Whats Done Is Done. But He Was On It Before Facelift. But Really Who Cares. Because Hes Dead And Alice In Chains Was The Best Band Of All Fucking Time

  • @PlowThrough8 Besides that, at early stages of AIC jerry was writing damn near ALL the songs

  • when u are a junkie u don't give a damn to anything to anyone at last the only thing u care it's some other shit and where to find it...it's start to being a work...believe me bro.there's no way out u dig ur own grave day by day..and the funniest thing it's that u nknow that.....how weird is human mind!

    r.i.p layne keep on rocking

  • its 3 years not four for the unplugged show

  • its a fucking song

  • Jay n Silent Bob

  • haha i see it

  • lol jerrys beanie

  • Anybody else notice how Layne can't really stay still?

  • @italianking29 that would be because he was a junkie

  • i know that im just saying you can tell how bad it is

  • u don't know much about being a junkie. being a junkie doesn't make u move around a lot.. thats something a normal person who is sober might do.. i bet he was sober.. i bet he was just uncomfortable for some random inane reason.. he seemed like a shy person in general. being shy makes u uncomfortable for the camera.. and when im uncomfortable i move around a lot.. can't find a position where i dont feel awkward.. people always jump to conclusions when they have no idea what they r talking about

  • @TilderyKoadil are you implyin to youtube ur a junkie? ill get some numbers for ya if you need help a year later after ur post!!!!!!

  • @jakepepsi1 no.. i'm implying that i know that what he's doing is a sign of anxiety.. not a sign that he's high(not saying he's not high, but what he's doing doesn't come from being high on heroin) and i know this because i know some junkies, not because i am one. Also, as i said, "being shy makes u uncomfortable for the camera.. and when i'm uncomfortable i move around a lot" PS if i was a junkie would you actually give me a number? or were you just implying to youtube that you're a douche? =P

  • @furryjackass - So Michael J Fox is a junkie? :-P

  • no but layne staley was

  • doesn't mean that that's why he was moving around tho. when ur a junkie, it doesn't mean that every single thing u do is because ur a junkie.

  • RIGHT!

  • he does seem a little uncomfortable. anxious and antsy.. probably is sober haha!

  • Alice in Chains RULED, and still does. No one is perfect, and obviously, Layne screwed up. Like none of us have ever done... wish he was still around

  • @Johnny2bad777 ive never screwed up as much as he did. i hate it when stupid posts gets the mosts thumbs up.

  • IMO Kurt was confused, sexually and in life itself, and he also played the rockstar thing way more than Layne did. I had a priveledge of meeting Layne in 1993 during their Lallapalooza tour. They came to our small town an hour away from Orlando at the beach. No one around so I hung with him and Jerry and the guys from Fishbone all day on the beach and then played pool with them all night. What shocked me was Layne was a geeky, timid, soft spoken, personable guy that sings gnarlier than Lemmy.

  • that is very cool to hear man. wow. and it seems to be the case alote, the guys you think might be a certain way are not. its the rockstar cliche, people are people, and im estatic to hear your adventure w them. peace .

  • can you tell us something else about that meeting

damnen im so jealous righ now :(

    please reply ;)

  • They were just down to earth normal guys. They didn't even seem to have any clue how famous they already had become. Seriously. AIC were heroes to us. This is a little surf town and that kind of music totally resonated with us. Bleach from Nirvana had long been circulated here before they hit it big. Layne himself like I said we very soft spoken. What's funny is he even sung a Nirvana song under his breath when we shot pool. Sadly, one of my surf acquaintences joined a few of them for the big H

  • I think a lot of the bands that came out of that scene were the same way, down to earth people. The record companies made all of the money. They got the scraps.

  • We had the privilege of opening for the band that was opening for AIC back in 1994. We started at 7. AIC went on maybe 11? But we stuck around in the rain to see them play. Layne prob weighed 115 lbs at this point. He seemed VERY sensitive and very real. He needed someone to look out for him and after his gf went, it was inevitable. Just so sad. Seemed like a really decent man.

  • his GF died in 96. but supposedly in 94 and 95 he was REALLY bad already so i believe that. makes u just wanna help him out

  • R.I.P Layne. He was a studly man!

  • Not only the money, but so many freebies. Really unfortunate.

  • layne was really cool, i understand being addicted to hardcore drugs, but it must be beyond hard when you have limitless money like layne and other rockstars have! they don't have money issues with buying their drugs, so they can buy whatever they want, if i had that much money id prob be dead by now!! layne was the man and had one of the best voices rock will ever hear, RIP layne staley!!!!!!

  • HEAVY ASS FUCKING METAL

  • heavy metal

  • "that's all it is it's a fuckin song, man!"

  • rip layne

  • i dont even like to consider AIC grunge... it was the same era but its a totally different sound some songs are grunge but alice was heavier and just better and they dont get all the credit they should its a very original sound

  • i could not agree with you any more. i hate when people say they are a grunge band.

  • remember grunge means dirt. and grunge music was named so because of its sound, theres an association with dull distortion drugs and nihilism, i think with jerrys guitar sound and laynes tortured howl its the best example of grunge there is, i prefer to think bands like pearl jam, screaming trees, etc werent grunge, just early 90s seattle bands.
