I would say you are right but did you look up Senate vote 397. That in the Chicago defender he DID suggest a tax on gun ammunition - but that was in 1999. He did debate on assault rifles in 2004 that people do use for hunting.

Most of these arent lies but alarmists based on older dates. I mean its like saying Mccain doesnt support hybrids when he specifically voted vote tax exemptions and wind power.. and wants the same for the chevy volt.

That tax issue was pretty scary. It was part of a larger bill that was designed to ban mail order sales of ammunition. It would also have exploded the cost of a box of shells by at least 500%. Its purpose was to make ammo too expensive for the common man to buy. Obama supported that.

I've been an NRA member since 1996.

I'm ashamed of this ad. I thought my organization existed to protect the second amendment of the constitution, not waste its resources on this kind of garbage.

I got an email from factcheckdotorg and they completely debunked this ad as totally false. The response from the NRA was that they preferred their facts.

This isn't the organization I joined. If the NRA can't represent members regardless of political party, then I can't continue as a member.

The video says Obama "voted to ban nearly all deer-hunting ammunition" and flashes Senate Bill S. 397 at the bottom of the screen as a source... but S. 397 had nothing to do with that. S. 397 passed into law, and deer hunting ammunition has not been banned. The claim is an outright lie.
