  • tv sucks it very hard to get away from sometimes since i grew up with it and most of us have but i find when you get away from it you feel better about yourself and can be more productive, i just need to get away from so much internet and youtube

  • Michael Franti sold out so he could have a hit song on the radio and advertise Corona beer. All his stuff now is crap. Too bad Michael.

  • Fantastic video! Love it! It says it all! A million thumbs up!!!!!

  • respect from Romania.

  • Ahh.. Remember when Michael Franti was cool?

  • no one can accuse Michael Franti of not being clued up!

  • um, they are canadian, not spanish

  • trazadone, klonipin and a fifth, come to me

  • R.I.P. Brother Of Truth G.S. Heron

  • R.I.P. Brother Of Truth

  • Funny cause most of these guys who commented this have a tv on or have a tv in their room or next to them.

  • @deadkennedys909 dumbo its what you watch and how long you watch it that matters

  • i saw this on tv the other day.

  • this same video?

  • @p3terpsych In your opinion ??

  • @p3terpsych I'm guessing this was a joke...

  • @leroyprc I love the irony!

  • so if your looking for emotional satisfaction, my advice to you is, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • with a perspective of spanish television: NOPE, american.

  • Ever notice how boring music, TV, movies became since reptoids took over? We have no good music anymore. No good movies, TV is a wasteland. Nothing thought stimulating or conscience elevating. No depth or meaning, to encourage critical thinking. Just wasteland of mindless, spiritless dumbed-down corporate business class drivel.

And the feeble, Hollywoodized masses continue to consume it ALL, without resistance. They can't open their wallets fast enough to spend spend spend! $ like fucking tools

  • @rg2027x Spot on, and well put.

  • @rg2027x so when is the cut-off line in your mind for the 'good music'?

    2005? 1980? 1232ad?

  • @resteep right here: watch?v=-K9Usv7iXNg

  • @rg2027x i see. So the Disco Era was your high-water mark for political conscious music? Fascinating.

  • @resteep So in your mind, music must be "political" to be relevant. Interesting.

When was the last time you heard some great uplifting funk like this:

    watch?v=t7-6jOB45yM

    these de-volved times

    ?

Or a song with this much depth & human passion

    watch?v=VlXcF0WwFTI

(not to mention fantastic drum machine programming, synthesizers & arrangement!)

  • @rg2027x no, not necessarily. I thought that's where you were coming from.

Regardless, there is tons of good music today, and lots of crap. Just like always.

Ever heard shad? That dude is phresh!

  • @resteep Haven't heard but will check. Guess I'm bit jaded cuz nothin does for me like old school, funk & soul. Most music today is overproduced, commercial corporate product. But there are exceptions. Good music used to be everywhere! Mainstream. All over airwaves, MTV (when it played music) Now you gotta search & dig for it.

If you want political man it don't get any better than this for me:

    watch?v=6xDa_iYb6Wg&hd=1

From The Temps 1990 album, written/produced by the great Norman Whitfield! :D

  • @rg2027x hans zimmer still makes good music

  • @row907 ur correct indeed he does.. : ) A Way Of Life always been 1 of my faves

  • The criminals would NEVER let REAL message like this on air now.

  • Time this one made a chart comeback ;)

  • 3:01 andrej chikatilo

  • 3:01 andrej chikatilo

  • This one is really good.

  • Ah, the album version of the song, much better than the single version. The video for the single is very effective, but I listen to songs, not watch them.

The early 1990s were the high water mark of rap - political commentary, social observation, the prominent use and incorporation of jazz. Ever since then, it's been all downhill.

  • dope shit

  • Television is ok in moderation... however, most people are afraid of the OFF button. ADHD... that shit dies down in about a week or so once parents get rid of cable and satelite tv that brainwash their kids heads with 24/7 repeats of spongebob dead head, mickey mouse crap house and other such programmes.

  • lots of stuff to agree upon, but so much good tv has since come out!

Our Friends in the North, The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men

    I Love Television!

  • Now you can hear Franti's "music" on Corona commercials....what happened to him?

  • @fastcats3 I agree. Morals of the spokespersons of true hip hop can be questionable these days. Look at the positive messages Public Enemy delivered back in the day yet Flavor Flav decides to make his own MTV show. Didn't they used to speak out against that bullshit?

  • This is awesome and real, but rap today is hateful degrading crap, bring back the lyrical message of what is good. michael franti is awesome

  • micheal franti was the dude man!

  • thanks for this :)

  • excelente.

  • 5 STARS ★★★★★ Excellent job on the video!

Faved, thumbs up & shared on fb!

So far ahead of there time!!

  • ..and there is nothing worth watching!!! HELL YEAH!!! ^^

  • Great stuff--great video to a great song!

  • if you want to hear some revolutionary hip hop check out Invincible she's a female m.c. with radical lyrics.

    try searching for Invincible hip-hop

  • seen these at birmingham university about 1992 good live

  • How the heck this is so old now; but so relevant today - and tomorrow- disturbs me! This should be part of our childrens' school cirriculum... Peace & Love people; we'll need it.

  • stumbled across the track after a long gap...appreciate the effort involved. Thank you

  • Well, at least we've solved that whole problem where television tells you that communism is un-American.

  • tight shit, true hip hop

    mad respect 5 * * * * *

  • They're like a def jam type group, with many different sounding and differently motivated artists. My personal favorites are Atmosphere, Brother Ali, P.O.S., and Slug.

P.O.S. and Brother Ali are very politically aimed, so if you're into rebellious hip hop that tears this brainwashed nation a new and exciting hole, then you will love their style.

Check'em'out .... not all of music has been destroyed by T.V., the drug of a nation

  • Everyone who's saying there isn't good music like this out there today... there's plenty of it...

Here in Minnesota we have a station called 89.3 The Current. It's a Minnesota Public Radio station that is often called one of the best radio stations in the country. They feature listener selected music and underground hits. Because I've had this luxury, I forget the rest of you are still suffering from mass media :/

Anyways, there's a great alt. hip hip group called The Rhymesayers

  • Been too long since I heard this. If ever there was a tune our younger generations should be forced to behold!!! Still so current, it's scary........And Funky!!

  • tv is a brainwasherrrrrr

  • If u like this then check out the original version when they were The Beat Nigs.

  • wow! i'm now mad at myself that i've known about Disposable Heroes for years now and i'm only just now checking them out! this is exactly my style! not just what i like, what i do!!!!

  • This rap still rings true. If anything, things have gotten worse. About all I watch on the boob tube any more are weather reports.

  • This song is beyond awesome. More people needed to listen to this.

  • i cant say that im musically inclined towards this but more kids need to hear it. i was raised with cable but i never really flipped channels because i was taught to read early, before we had a tv. i think kids reading before having a television would help so much. we got our tv when i was in 1st grade. in 1995.

  • it reminds me a lot of ratman. i agree that there needs to be more music like this!

    -the ghoul

  • They should teach this to kids in schools- why can't more rap be like this? btw you should check out The Last Poets if u like this

  • "why can't more rap be like this?"

Good question. The answer, though, lies in the title of this song.

  • yes "the answer lies in the title of this song"! i agree, most urban/rap artists today only care about making a profit through MTV & merchandising, the same can be said for rock music- I love hip hop, but i hate the shallowness of so called "artists" like 50 Cent & Eminem- i wish there was more artists like D.H.O.H and Pulic Enemy around today

  • Try Busdriver and Roots Manuva.

  • Roots Manuva is awesome! haven't heard of Busdriver but i will check him/them out! :)

  • Cool :) Busdriver is possibly my favourite contemporary US rapper - he has a fair few vids on here - Imaginary Places, The Troglodyte Wins, Me-Time, Avantcore etc...

  • If only man, if only... I never -hated- rap as a genre, it's definately allows for alot more description than just plain singing. But unfortunately most rap always sticks to the same 4 topics: Cars, Clothes, Guns and Hoes... Few rappers ever stray from this formula, because they know it sells. If only there were more rap like this and Greydon Square, then I'd actually have a reason to like rap other than just the beats.

  • @alleyghost COZ THEY WATCH TV THEY ARE MOULDED BY WHAT THEY THINK PEOPLE WANT THE LIES ON THE TV MAKE THEM THAT WAY.

  • there is a purpose why rap is dead, these sucker "rapper" are spreading the wrong message around the world. today they talk about moeny, girls MORE MONEY.

this song goes against that shit.

television drug of the nation, breading ignorance through the television.

  • agreed!

if there was more rappers like Chuck D & Michael Franti then hiphop wouldnt be in the sorry state it's in today

  • @makpak you speak the truth brother!! peace be with you, the methadone metronome??!! WORD

  • @makpak they are corrupted rappers by the illuminati

  • @makpak ...if only this was what hip hop was really like I'd even get into it...as far as the wrong message?...you must be one of the idiots they're talking about in this song...brain dead and all drugged up from being brought up on the bs and irrelevance of the garbage on tv...re listen to the song and this time pay attention you just might learn something

  • Youtube! A drug of a nation!

  • Still better than crack t.v. (for how long though?)

  • thats true!

  • michael franti is awesome.

  • Hey Digital Formant Tvs Can send more Subliminal

Codes(messages)That's why they want to changed it

  • Nice video for one of the best songs I ever heard

  • I saw them as the Beatnigs and they smashed a car up on stage. Great groundbreaking band.

  • Magistral,pinchito.

  • Should be compulsory listening

  • Great comment Gnostic...sums up what Y had to say!

  • Top shelf freshness. What real Hip Hop is supposed to sound like. Consider yourself served.

  • @GnosticNinja If this is what Hip Hop sounded like I would be a life long fan, sadly this is the first and so far, only of that genre to move me at all.

  • @bearsbugs its because hip hop has recently become a genre under the broad genre of pop these days. theres still hella good rappers out there spittin on more lyrical and meaningful levels, just have to look for it.

  • @phathalbert But sadly I probably won't hear those, simply because I can't stand the other crap that I would have to listen through in order to by chance hear them.

  • Groundbreaking
