  • Torneios de sparring da IOGKF costumam a ser nesse estilo ? Lembra um pouco o Shinken Shobu da Kyokushin-kan . Interessante , gostei.

  • The literal meaning of irikumi in the original Japanese is more like a set/group of entering (the opponent's personal space) methods. One can practice irikumi in a continuous manner when doing kakie, for example.

  • Nice! In Shotokan this tipe of continuous fighting is just called Ju Kumite, it's only used in Dojo training and exams, for competitions we call it Shiai Kumite but it has diferent rules and purpose... Can a Shotokan fighter take parte in your IriKumi competitions?Osu!

  • Ous!

  • Whoof. Those are some hard takedowns to be doing without a mat.

  • good sweep

  • i wouldn'y say it was a gr8 fight but it looks interesting

  • NICE! Pity the video's so short, would have watched a lot more than that if the option was there, good job guys!

  • What about the knee bunkai (hiza geri) in Saifa (knee-strike), Sesan (knee-block) ,Sepai (kicks that can well be turned into knee strikes if the distance is realistic), Suparimpai (flying knee while jumping)? Goju Ryu has many obvious applications of hiza geri techniques in various Katas.

  • I agree, the knees are absolutely there.

  • Yes it does, it's a close combat style -.-

  • your wrong! of course we do! dont know who you been training with but that doesnt sound good.

  • Cameback to Goju Ryu! =D

  • excelente, es un gusto ver buen karate

    saludos!

  • good level.....cool fight

  • Wow thats really cool. I like it!

  • so what is exact difference between randori and irikumi? I allways thaught, that randori is more for technique training purposes - most important is good kick or punch technique, not the strenght (kicks ant punches are executed 30-50% of power). Sorry for my english.

  • Randori means "experimenting", and is a free, controlled, train-like sparring. It is the "final step" before irikumi, the latter being closer to real-fight, continuous and poerful.

But names aside, the most important thing is to train...

  • god this is what i love about goju-ryu but also the style it self i tran every day of the week for 3 houres i love it iv done it for 9 years nearly 10. i can take my secon dan if i wonted but i have to take it agen wen im 16 or 18 because im only 14. but belts dont matter as much to me just learning the style is most important

  • that was a very nice sweep

  • Fast, simple, usefull, and brutal ... GOD I love goju ryu "the" traditionnal Karate

  • good to see the full contact Go Ju Ryu sparring !Not bad guys.

    Osu!!!

  • Not bad guys. I visit Portugal a lot to teach Goju.

  • As a kyokushin karate guy, its good to see the continuous full contact sparring that basically spawned my style, still being practiced in goju ryu (kyokushins "mother" style).

Sadly, you dont see it very often in goju anymore.

  • There is no full contact karate. There are only restricted contests of sports karate, which is a misnomer. Full contact in karate results in death or severe maiming. I am saddened to see so many have come to believe that a kicking and punching sport is really karate. It, they, are not. I am also saddened to see that there are higher level, older athletes, some commenting this site, that know better yet still perpetuate the myth. The ego of man will smother learning in favor of attention.

  • I agree with you.

I am a very young karateka and only a white belt but I have studied my history, I understand that there is a deeper meaning in all martial arts besides kicking and punching and I know the difference between sport and traditional karate. However there is nothing wrong with sport karate. It depends on what you are into at the end of the day. I prefer traditional karate and traditional training methods. I am glad that I am in a dojo that accepts both sport and traditional.

  • ah i finally c my style in some sparring nice job keep up!

  • Nice ... is it from a IOGKF - dojo ?

  • Thank you! Yes, it's from a IOGKF dojo in Portugal!

  • We practice ground fighting in IOGKF, but -at least in the way I train- it is not more than 10 seconds. In irikumi tournament rules you get points for takedowns and finishing technique. I would like to see takedowns to submission (with the 10 seconds limit rule)

  • check out sport ju jitsu clips that's exaclty the rule set

  • Good level , but is too short....

  • Wow, never seen that level of sparring in Goju.

  • Good. It seems like kyokushin combat.

    I miss head punchs...but it´s a good style.

  • Check my videos...APOGK irikumi tornament.

  • NIce Video! see my videos!

  • Really nice little more blocking would be good though and less "boxing guard"

  • that is not boxing guard, they look similar, but they have different origins and uses. It actually is a very good difense against high kicks (including hook kicks, swing punches, crosses, blows to the body.... It is strong defense!

  • Less boxing guard?! Wait till you meet a muay thai or a (kick) boxer and the two of you get at close distance.... and don't say 'you don't wanna be there, or 'I can outmaneuver him' that's fancy thinking.

  • love the ko soto gari.

  • Eu nao falo Portuguese, sou Inglese

  • nice

look at the commercial film we have for goju in sweden :)

you can find it in my movies

  • Finally some goju sparring that doesn't suck. i was getting worried

  • Me too, very very worried.

  • Yes Kururunfagoju, I competed in the IOGKf iri-kumi several times!!!

  • yes, in the IOGKF

  • colemandina, probably you can say who you are and maybe we'll recognise you...

  • Paul Coleman!

  • I was in iri kumi many times with the IOGKF

  • Colemandina, you mean competing in the IOGKF championships?

  • the Chojun Miyagi Festival dvd is available at the IOGKF website. I am sure there are lots of irikumi bouts in it.

  • yeah! I know! I've already thought about buying them... Has anyone already seen them?

malasangre, were you at the MCF?

    Merry Christmas to all!

  • I couldn't go, but I am training for the CMF in Okinawa 2008. I am ordering the dvd's right now... I will tell you how they are in a week.

  • you're right halfoat ;) eggsclusiv was just being nice and kidding around... Nothing that 100 push-ups in the next training won't fix eheheh :p

  • Two great athetes demonstrating a fine art. Do not try this at home! These are pro's. :p

  • Very good. You may want to add some explanation of the rules for those who have never heard the word "irikumi" before. Also, a full round would be nice. Thank you.
