Hey dude! got a quick question.. everytime i have my footages in the timeline and i attempt to view it in the sequence area... the playback is cropped compared to the playback that i get in the source area.. any advice on this? p.s. im using pro cs5 and i was shooting with a canon 7d.. cheers
does this use the pixel motion or frame blending like in after effects? in AE i can make a 24p footage slow-mo but still smooth using pixel motion. Can I do that in premiere?
Will adobe fix this! It should be synced from the start. It is very time consuming if you have a whole bunch of clips to interpret and create a nested sequence for everyone! I had a project with in and out markers set, now I have to go back, delete the markers, interpret, nest and then cut! Hope someone puts this in the adobe wish folder!
hey question. i am using a canon DSLR eos rebel to shoot footage. when i add the files to premiere they are fine until i add them to the editing field then the preview of the footage is huge and very pixelated why is this so and is there any way to fix this?
@1994JoeTurner I honestly don't know Vegas that well. I'd like to offer a review to compare but I don't have the time or the software to do it :) If you use Photoshop and After Effects a lot then Premiere Pro is without a doubt the NLE to use. - JB
@1994JoeTurner I'd say vegas pro is much easier to get along with in the beginning. I worked with Vegas 8 pro for about a year or something and it was never difficult to find anything but the reason why I (personally) don't like Vegas is everytime I rendered my outcome (DSLR footage) it would always shut down the program. Didn't happen to me in Premiere yet. So I'd go for premiere
@1994JoeTurner i have used vegas in the past and it seemed easier and a little more self explanatory but premiere makes me feel like im using a tool that will be very applicable in my future. You feel me dawg?
@senhordasempadas basically there are two ways to get this to work. One is to make the clip run at 50% as an effect, the other is to set up the clips you intended to shoot for slow motion as interpreted to the true frames per second and have them in the project panel as clips that are already in slow motion speed and just add them to the edit when desired. The effect is not there are rendering isn't required as the clip runs at the correct frame rate. It's just another option - not the only way.
@aJBprods right. but I actually thought that what you've done would automatically be there when you changed the speed/duration of the clip (considering the sequence was 30fps)
@boogieman305 After Effects is a Visual Effects Compositing Application and Motion Graphics Application. Premiere Pro is a Video Editing Application. Editing Video with Premiere Pro allows for realtime playback to make edit decisions and you can add a clip after another on the same track, whereas AE will not really allow any realtime playback without rendering and clips are stacked and use layers like Photoshop.
i know this doesent have to do with slow motion but why does my preview screen have black bars around it.. the video is small not full sise of the box ???
@summitclinton It appears that you are seeing a clip that is smaller in dimensions than the sequence you are editing in. Could be a 1280x720 clip in a 1920x1080 sequence which will show the clip with black borders around it. You can still use this footage in the sequence, just right click on the clip and select "Scale To Frame Size".
@aJBprods okay i did that it made it taller but i still have borders on the side :S i dont even know why it worked soo good for first couple videos and now it has a small window for the clip.. any way to change it so its always full ??
@TheoTsanas Yes it is big news in the professional video arena right now. Many FCP users making the switch. Good thing they are very similar in working style and concepts. :)
@Netrex44 there is just as quick a way to skin the preverbial cat. Press x key and drag clip edge out to desired length/speed that too takes about 5 secs. :)
this is so comlicated. if i want a clip to go normal in the beginning and then slowmo and then normal again. if this is the only way to get slowmo w/sound that will take an hour for me
@fdrpyahoocom But to have it as slow as you want is not a available in it. It was just take it to a certain speed. this you can take it to exactly how many frames per second.
@TommyNguyenMagic There is an easier way to do it tho, I checked... Can't remember exactly how I did it lol. I remember right clicking in the timeline and then clicking speed/duration I think and just set it 50% or whatever you desire the speed to be and you can still keep the audio pitch if you want. But I've encountered a problem where if I only want to make a certain part of the clip slow mo and then continue at normal speed after the slow mo part, it skips a part of the video... How nice...
I make the two markers in the video where I want the slow-mo to occur, but the audio bar stays the same length after I make the time extension, so the audio always finishes before the video. How do I get the audio to equal the footage (with the time stretching and all) without slowing down the entire audio or footage piece?
why the video preview in Premiere sometimes stutters? like as if it was in a low quality graphics card? It only happens with some videos (like some flv files I download from youtube and convert to avi for example). but only some, not all. It's not a computer issue. And the audio doesn't stutter, only the video seems like it's at the wrong fps.
continued...Does this make any effect on the quality of the slow mo or am I doing the same thing in a different way to you? I tested it out and couldn't see any difference.
Hey there, great tutorial, but just a little confused in my situation. I'm filming with a Go Pro HD and use Premiere CS5. When I film i tend to switch between 960p/30fps(for normal speed) & 720p/60fps(for slow mo) on the camera, then create a template in Premiere under the HD profile 720p/30fps. I will then drop the raw footage into the time line and if I want slow mo I select a 60fps clip then right click on it and go to speed/duration and set speed to 50% or I use the time remapping.
Premiere looks amazing on the box, and some people seem to have luck with it, but I've tried for 6 years to be friends with Premiere and meticulously do exactly what it wants (in terms of building my computer, how I use the software, etc etc) and it just crashes the FUCK out of my entire life. I'm working on a pretty big file and had no problems for quite a while; but lately Premiere has been coming up with the following error:
Premiere Pro Debug Event -
\AudioRender\AudioPretch.cpp.87]
I can't seem to work around this, and there is very limited information online about this thing. I'm already a late with the work, and I can't help but to think the slow motion might have effected it? The audio under my video files are fine but the slow parts have no levels at all. I'm stuck! Anyone?
Hey, question a bit off topic but was just wondering if when i purchase CS5 i should just download it or have the physical box shipped to my house. Opinions maybe?
@JesusKityProductions There is no difference in the actual Programs and Adobe are not printing instruction books anymore they've gone completely green. So I guess the only thing is whether you want the Adobe Discs or an installer you can keep on a Hard drive and reinstall in necessary about 10x faster than doing it with discs.
nice video, also I do this for games, I frap it at 120 fps, then I will do videos with and output of 30fps, so I just make the parts 25% for the slowmotion and same thing, works.
i got a problem.... on my playback whenever i hit play it doesnt move and if i click it again it moves about 5 frames.... this is very aggravating and yes my computer can handle the program
@OneOfMyBadDays You might be hitting the playback as it gets started. With the H.264 it needs to buffer before playing from stand still. so hit play then wait a couple seconds. Your system may not be powerful enough for instant playback buffering with H.264
When I imported a 1st and second picture is fine but after that when I try to import the next picture, imported the second picture again even that i choose a different picture from folder, Can some help please.

btw when i play my video selceting the dslr 1080 mode, it lags compared to other settings, is there any way i can just edit everything in the first standard sequence, and then just move evrything over to the 1080 mode?
@eisontv It will always work best when you edit in the native sequence. If you are not getting good playback there are a couple of possible reasons. CPU isn't fast enough, Not enough RAM - more than 4G is good, 4G is minimum, or the Hard Drive you are playing from can't maintain the read speeds for the HDSLR footage - Minimum 7200rpm drive connected via Firewire400 (internal drive, esata, FW800 is better or USB 3 or RAID. USB 2 connections are never consistent in read/write speeds
hei, great tutorial, but could u show us what type of seqence settings u choose, when u create a new sequence ? btw wich type of sd card should i get 4 the camera ?
You are Just"AWESOME" mate . problem solved. You have saved me from so much of frustration and time waste. Many many thanks..it worked....many regards
@fastidea sounds like the process was corrupted in the initial stage of creating the peaking file, which can happen if the editing commences before it's done. Its good to let all the peaking etc happen before editing. Go to the Pref's & Media. Hit "Clean" button for the Media Cache. Shutdown PPro, wait 20sec for BG processing to stop. Relaunch PPro. Watch the lower right complete all the processing. U can c when its finished. May take a few minutes. Make sure u r running the latest updates too.
@fastidea the peaking is part of the way Adobe creates the audio file visual waveform. It's normal for it to do that when importing media and part of the process. If it's doing it everytime you open the project to things that have been open just a moment ago then that's not normal.
@Tobiasoaz Premiere Pro is an editor, after effects doesn't allow for realtime playback without rendering even with native formats. After effects is for precision "tinkering". Premiere Pro is for realtime editing and decision making. Usually once the dldecisions are made, after effects can make it "pretty".
Very broken down way of thinking about them but that's a quick view on which app does what. ;-)
@aJBprods Thanks man, I've already got Adobe After Effects, now Im getting Adobe Premiere Pro cs5 :D I've never worked with it but I want to first put raw video material into Premiere to cut the material in small clips and get them to playback and slow-mo smooth so I can put them into After Effects to add some nice effects. Is there any way to export the clips directly from Premiere to After Effects without having to lose quality by rendering from Premiere and import to After Effects? Thanksalot
I got this in trial at the moment, I am going to buy it when my trial is over, but my problem is that, anyway how big i set the screen of the video, I always get this black area around, so the video screen is pretty small, is this only on trial or what is it :S ?
@magnusak1 If the media you arenworking with doesn't match the dimensions and other properties with the sequence there can be lots of potential issues. One is the dimensions not matching = black bars on either the top/bottom and or left/right.
Check that your seq and media properties match. In cs5 you can drag n drop a clip onto the new item button at the bottom of the project panel and it will put that clip in a matching sequence for you!
@djambalawa good spot. At the time I made the video, prior to retail release, there was a bug in the DSLR footage being slowed down where the audio started from the 1st frame. Nesting it was the "workaround". It's been fixed since. ;-)
I don't understand why audio wouldn't just slow perfectly with the video if you slow it down... why the nested sequence stuff etc? Sorry I'm missing something...
@youngslik1 If u are on a Mac to right click. Hold the control key down and click. If u go into the mouse settings in system preferences u can get the mouse to have a right click secondary function. The new mice don't look like they have a right and left click, but they do ;)
hi, can anyone clear up a question i have, i live in the uk, so pal tv standard, i am thinking of buying a new hd camera that can record in 60 fps, will i be able to see this on my tv, or will i only see up to 25 fps ?
@robblac without getting too technical, you could watch it on a 25fps TV with the 60fps information squashed into showing it in 1/25th per second. If it doesn't work it's due to the frame rate and the electronic pulse that shows it is not compatible with the TV and the playback device. Effectively you want to match fps to the TV in clean fps so 25 or 50 for a PAL TV. 30 or 60 for NTSC.
@aJBprods thanks, I assumed that PAL was 25 fps and no matter how good my tv was, i would not see the full 50 fps, i cannot record at 50 fps anyway at the moment as my HD cam dosent do it, (25 i think) but i was thinking the only reason the cam i am thinking of buying does 50 fps, is for slow mo..the REAL reason forwanting a new cam is for low light im looking th a panasonic hdc-sd700, ( 3 cmos sensors) i currently have a panasonic hdc-sd10, but its bad in low light (single ccd sensor)
You know your shit. Good job.

So I guess the only thing is whether you want the Adobe Discs or an installer you can keep on a Hard drive and reinstall in necessary about 10x faster than doing it with discs.
aJBprods 1 year ago
@JesusKityProductions - downloading is faster and cheaper (i think) if so download it and burn it to discs. :))

nice video, also I do this for games, I frap it at 120 fps, then I will do videos with and output of 30fps, so I just make the parts 25% for the slowmotion and same thing, works.

Hi, You have such great videos! I'm kinda on a budget, what is the best cheap video card for Premiere Pro CS5?
flyguyga321 1 year ago
You should have just got adobe premiere elements and saved $500 and use that to buy a video card if money is an issue.

i got a problem.... on my playback whenever i hit play it doesnt move and if i click it again it moves about 5 frames.... this is very aggravating and yes my computer can handle the program
OneOfMyBadDays 1 year ago
@OneOfMyBadDays You might be hitting the playback as it gets started. With the H.264 it needs to buffer before playing from stand still. so hit play then wait a couple seconds. Your system may not be powerful enough for instant playback buffering with H.264

@aJBprods it also happens with WMV but thank you

@particlelight What do you use to edit and your thoughts on it?
soneeqboom 11 months ago
btw when i play my video selceting the dslr 1080 mode, it lags compared to other settings, is there any way i can just edit everything in the first standard sequence, and then just move evrything over to the 1080 mode?
eisontv 1 year ago

Thnaks for your reply, unfortunately its doing everytime, Iopen the project even after 2 secs..weird....?
fastidea 1 year ago
@fastidea sounds like the process was corrupted in the initial stage of creating the peaking file, which can happen if the editing commences before it's done. Its good to let all the peaking etc happen before editing. Go to the Pref's & Media. Hit "Clean" button for the Media Cache. Shutdown PPro, wait 20sec for BG processing to stop. Relaunch PPro. Watch the lower right complete all the processing. U can c when its finished. May take a few minutes. Make sure u r running the latest updates too.
aJBprods 1 year ago
Hi Mate, nice video, I have a small concern, Every time I open adobe project, it gets in to generating audio peaking . Any light on it please. Thanks
fastidea 1 year ago
@fastidea the peaking is part of the way Adobe creates the audio file visual waveform. It's normal for it to do that when importing media and part of the process. If it's doing it everytime you open the project to things that have been open just a moment ago then that's not normal.

Tell me whats better for major video editing: Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere ??
Tobiasoaz 1 year ago

Thanksalot
Tobiasoaz 1 year ago
does mercury playback engine work with after effect cs5.
petenicezz 1 year ago
@petenicezz Nope. Mercury only benefits Premiere Pro.
But who knows what the future holds?

afleitikh3 1 year ago
I got this in trial at the moment, I am going to buy it when my trial is over, but my problem is that, anyway how big i set the screen of the video, I always get this black area around, so the video screen is pretty small, is this only on trial or what is it :S ?
magnusak1 1 year ago
@magnusak1 If the media you arenworking with doesn't match the dimensions and other properties with the sequence there can be lots of potential issues. One is the dimensions not matching = black bars on either the top/bottom and or left/right.
Check that your seq and media properties match. In cs5 you can drag n drop a clip onto the new item button at the bottom of the project panel and it will put that clip in a matching sequence for you!
Good luck.

@djambalawa good spot. At the time I made the video, prior to retail release, there was a bug in the DSLR footage being slowed down where the audio started from the 1st frame. Nesting it was the "workaround". It's been fixed since. ;-)
aJBprods 1 year ago
I don't understand why audio wouldn't just slow perfectly with the video if you slow it down... why the nested sequence stuff etc? Sorry I'm missing something...
djambalawa 1 year ago
this has nothing to do with slow motion but how do you get rid of black bars on adobe

@youngslik1 If u are on a Mac to right click. Hold the control key down and click. If u go into the mouse settings in system preferences u can get the mouse to have a right click secondary function. The new mice don't look like they have a right and left click, but they do ;)

you a soccer, afl or cricket man?
aspiregemstone 1 year ago
@aspiregemstone I'll try to answer your deep questions with as much accuracy as possible.
I love playing soccer and especially with my 2 yo daughter, she can run with the ball freakishly well for a little kid.
I love the bombers, when they are playing decently and enjoy a good game of footy on the 50" plasma at home in Full HD.
Cricket.... I enjoy backyard cricket at the appropriate time of year. Christmas and Boxing Days. Or on the beach.

soccer I love but we lost to germany:( Collingwood is the BEst and cricket I like it, the test are alright but the 20 20 's are thrilling.

hi, can anyone clear up a question i have, i live in the uk, so pal tv standard, i am thinking of buying a new hd camera that can record in 60 fps, will i be able to see this on my tv, or will i only see up to 25 fps ?
thanks.
robblac 1 year ago
@robblac without getting too technical, you could watch it on a 25fps TV with the 60fps information squashed into showing it in 1/25th per second. If it doesn't work it's due to the frame rate and the electronic pulse that shows it is not compatible with the TV and the playback device. Effectively you want to match fps to the TV in clean fps so 25 or 50 for a PAL TV. 30 or 60 for NTSC.
aJBprods 1 year ago
@aJBprods thanks, I assumed that PAL was 25 fps and no matter how good my tv was, i would not see the full 50 fps, i cannot record at 50 fps anyway at the moment as my HD cam dosent do it, (25 i think) but i was thinking the only reason the cam i am thinking of buying does 50 fps, is for slow mo..the REAL reason forwanting a new cam is for low light im looking th a panasonic hdc-sd700, ( 3 cmos sensors) i currently have a panasonic hdc-sd10, but its bad in low light (single ccd sensor)
