  • This is so cute!

  • The lack of any kind of spontaneity always distresses me. They are doing what they were instructed to do but look at the faces and eyes; they are bewildered unless they are smiling for the camera because they've been told to. There's actually a lot of talent here but if you talk to Meglin Kiddies many don't have fond memories. It was hard work and for what many of them never knew exactly except their mommies wanted them to be stars.

  • that little girl who,s laughing...lovely!!!

  • They look like Mattel's Liddle Kiddles dolls from the 1960s

  • Kids' heads are too big. Or their bodies are too small for their heads. Anyhow, they're not shaped like adults.

  • @impCaesarAvg ~ lol. yes they have giant heads. funny enough, it's the model cartoonists used for betty boop, a giant head with big eyes on a very adult body.

  • @tomitstube

Nah, Betty Boop was a plump dog character with a massive head, caricatured on Helen Kane, who was the Baby faced Boop-a-Doop Girl. But in richard fleischer's commentary, he actually mentions Betty's face resemble what your saying <3

and he states shes like a mixture between Shirley Temple & Mae West. I really wanted to know who the girl is who is doing the Betty Boop impression, seems nobody knows.

  • she lookes like betty boo

  • Thanks for posting this!

I was a Meglin Kiddie in Hollywood much later on. I was enrolled when I was 2 or 3 years old and was there till Ethyl retired and the closing of the school. I still have some scripts, a prop and other memorabilia packed away somewhere, and some photos. I don't think there is any footage from the time I was there. Kinda wish I could come across some.

I can still remember bits and pieces of some of the acts and tunes I did.

  • disturbing

  • This is awful! Isn't it funny that little Dickie Moore was the only one that made it

  • Aw, that cute, smiling boy in the very begining is Dickie Moore! He was in the Our Gang series. :) & He's still with us!

  • the little girl with the food tray is super adorable.

  • Is she trying to do Helen Kane or Betty Boop. 1934 can be a debatable question.

  • @ziggycat999 Based on the costume which has the sweetheart neckline and ruffle hem of Betty Boop's usual costume, I'd say it's a Betty impression. Also note the heart applique on the dress. By 1934 there were over 20 Betty Boop cartoons and she was already quite popular. To be fair, Betty Boop is a Helen Kane impression, so I guess it's both? :)

  • @TheWidowFlannigan

Yes this is a Betty Boop Impression, the outfit was proberly made specially, it looks like Little Ann Little's.

  • My Mother was born in 1929 and went to the Meglin Kiddie school in Northern California. I have her little wooden tamborine and her little blue ruffled Meglin Kiddie dress.

I also have pictures of her.

Thanks so much for posting this video.

  • You're very welcome...! Your mother may have been dancing along with Shirley Temple, who was just a year older..! Judy Garland made her film debut with the kiddies in the "The Big Revue" 1929.

  • Betty Boop en niño....

  • With today's Politically Correct attitudes, anyone who put kids in a film like this today would be accused of exploiting children and promoting pedophilia!

  • Very cute indeed! Definitely worth a 5 star rating!

    Thanks for posting this one!

    Tom Warner

  • So cute, isn't that kiddie "Helen Kane" at the beginning of the clip adorable? Despite their young age, these dancers perform real choreography! Outstanding.
