I just can't wrap my head around MMORPG's... If you are given a scripted quest (go to the tomb of Anjunta Pall and get the Sith blade for example), and everybody else was also given that quest, what's the point in playing??? The plot is shit at that point because everyone else in the game is doing the exact same quests you are. "There's a rare ancient sword that you need to get, but it's not really rare, we make all our initiates go get one..." WTF???

If you're talking about uniqueness withing the game, thats imposible in a mmo because of imbalance. But the late game items are rare among players so you got things to brag with...

@Keenoohhh EVERY MMO so far has had these kind of issues. you simply cannot judge an MMO based on the first month. to compare: WoW had 1 raid with 9 bosses (similar to current), no heroic or nightmare mode, nearly every class was overpowered at a point, balance was retarded (paladins, druids, shamans and priests could only heal), and many patches and hotfixes totally broke one or the other aspect. Bioware will fix the issues TOR has.
I dont like how he (developer) talks about the game. "We tryed to make game accesible for every one" "We wanted to make it familiar" "Wery easy to pick up if they played MMO before".. He could just say "We wanted to create a big generic MMO based on the gameplay model of the most popular MMO - WoW, so we can sell it to largest undemanding audience.

Ok guys. WoW player since 04' I un-subbed at around December time so I i could start playing this. Played it for one month, and I can honestly say, this makes WoW look like Runescape. I have never played a game with more effort put into it that this, well, maybe Zelda, but that goes without saying. Graphics? Check. Story? Check. Character Creation? Check. Immense Classes? Check. The single flaw this game has, is lack of races, but thats not enough to warrant slating it.

QUestign was booring since the only fun was the actual story and such. Only thing i truly enjoyed was playing my ship in galaxy and shoot down things.

@OCthe1011 I actually like this game's PvP (only >50 Warzones though). I can see why people don't like the objective based PvP style Warzones, but I've always been a healer in every MMO, and this game doesn't reward healers much but it's still fun. I like that it's fast paced and people die...yes, I'm poking fun at WoW's incredibly fail PvP system, but that's just me. I view it as refreshing, for now anyway. It still needs work, but don't forget how much WoW sucked when it launched!

I'm tempted to try this out. Ive been playing wow since classic but to be honest I'm abit bored with it lately. However Ive tried Aion, rift, LOTRO, and what have you. They all felt like a wow clone. From what I can see it has alot of the mechanics of wow but it has one thing that makes bioware great. The story. The story in this game keep progressing the game it seems that has always done bioware great. When they stray from that path like in dragon age 2 it doesnt do well. We will have to see.
I just saw the guild-war 2 game-play and while it looks nice it doesn't have the star wars lore or fan base that I'm loving in TOR. Didn't like guild war 1 but I was playing WOW instead cuz I could afford the better game muhaha j/k. Does it have animation fighting? i'm spoiled now cuz of TOR but I'll give Guildwar2 a try if I'm bored or can pull myself off my trooper.
@helr3per The GW2 combat is pretty dynamic and fluid. You can find plenty of videos from the demos. Guild Wars 2 only has a box price, no sub fee, so you could easily play both SWTOR and GW2. :)
Ive been playing wow since classic and what people say when this game is bad to wow they keep thinking of the nostalgia. Does the nostalgia in wow have fun now? Most likely not. Most of the people I meet are usually bored but have nothing better to do. SWTOR brings a breath of fresh air.
@Sharbecca23 I just dont think lore has snappy enough combat, it seems sluggish, and seriously SNAPPY FUCKING COMBAT, makes a game, especially in pvp. pve gets boring in mmo's thats why I ONLY buy games that have good pvp as well. this game has abilities with animations that take too long for the damage to actually be put out, there for it will some times feel like a turn based game. its the reason many people didnt like rift in the long run.

SW:TOR is definately going to replace WoW. Its about time too, WoW has been the juggernaut MMO for years, it maybe has another 2 years before its pretty much gone.
You can group up and split quest then when one turns it in the other can holograph there to see the cut scenes, make decisions, and collect the treasures, Companions!! making groups easy to make, spaceships, *ANIMATION* this thing feels like a movie as my guy deflects and dives into battle. Bioware is a amazing company that has made a star wars MMO that IMO will be the WOW killer as it is a fresh experience with an amazing story.
It isn't a WOW clone. It has alot of the same elements as WOW but different. Like: Voice acting (which alone is a game changer), NO MORE GRINDING ( companions do the grinding for you), no more running to your body as you can re-spawn where you are with a time delay based on deaths, warp/hearth anywhere not just to the main base, LEGACY!! (a family tree which characters you make are related and share traits)
FYI WOW fan since 05' but its time for the new kid to take the crown and Bioware is a great company who have made nothing but epic games and this will b no different
@helr3per While I really enjoy playing TOR, Bioware shouldn't be considered an amazing company. They are decent, but certainly not epic. Though big props for their successful launch, hopefully they can polish off the game very soon and fix all the bugs.
I was a huge fan of KOTOR 1 & even 2, but i can say without doubt this game looks bad. I hate how they took 1 of the 2 good star wars games and made it into a crappy MMO. No im not saying that MMOs are crappy im saying this one looks like it is. The combat looks stiff and akward, the graphics are nothing we havent seen in in GW & WOW. Hell even the "different" classes are the same as wow (jedi knight=pally, sith inquistor=priest or rouge depending on spec). NT SW i think ill just stick to KOTOR
@tqui94 personally i think your wrong about this game over 135 million dollars was spent on the game, 100s of hours of work put in to it, the maps are so big that that each world is about 3-4 areas in wow and there are 17 different world. each person has a story line behind him, you don't get that in other MMOs. weapons, armour and the force, and last but not least it's a fully voiced MMO, and that is something that has never happened before in an MMO. i think and 1000s would agree, it is great.

the only reason why this game will survive is that this is sci-fi, while guild wars 2 isn't. in terms of graphics, gameplay, etc. this game brings almost nothing new to the mmo stage from what i see here
dozens of identical characters running and jumping around in your vicinity doing the same thing you're doing is why mmos can never compare to single player rpgs in terms of atmosphere. Non-dynamic combat system, an exact copy of 90% of mmos to date, this game is nothing new except for the star wars skin

I like Star Wars (4-6), but this EU crap is all the same. Either it makes SW characters much more significant than they actually are (ie boba fett), or they need to be so tied to SW that they keep revisiting the same themes and even the same planets (ie worthless Tatooine when the galaxy has millions).

I understand your frustration, but the reason why Tatooine is constantly revisited is for "familiarity," people want the "Star Warsy" feel so they need to include the iconics. Do I agree ? No, but at the same time TOR is at least including a fair amount of new material and planets and a slightly stronger story line even if it's Republic vs Empire again.

You can group up and split quest then when one turns it in the other can holograph there to see the cut scenes, make decisions, and collect the treasures, Companions!! making groups easy to make, spaceships, *ANIMATION* this thing feels like a movie as my guy deflects and dives into battle. Bioware is a amazing company that has made a star wars MMO that IMO will be the WOW killer as it is a fresh experience with an amazing story.

It isn't a WOW clone. It has alot of the same elements as WOW but different. Like: Voice acting (which alone is a game changer), NO MORE GRINDING ( companions do the grinding for you), no more running to your body as you can re-spawn where you are with a time delay based on deaths, warp/hearth anywhere not just to the main base, LEGACY!! (a family tree which characters you make are related and share traits)

@helr3per While I really enjoy playing TOR, Bioware shouldn't be considered an amazing company. They are decent, but certainly not epic. Though big props for their successful launch, hopefully they can polish off the game very soon and fix all the bugs.

I was a huge fan of KOTOR 1 & even 2, but i can say without doubt this game looks bad. I hate how they took 1 of the 2 good star wars games and made it into a crappy MMO. No im not saying that MMOs are crappy im saying this one looks like it is. The combat looks stiff and akward, the graphics are nothing we havent seen in in GW & WOW. Hell even the "different" classes are the same as wow (jedi knight=pally, sith inquistor=priest or rouge depending on spec). NT SW i think ill just stick to KOTOR

@tqui94 personally i think your wrong about this game over 135 million dollars was spent on the game, 100s of hours of work put in to it, the maps are so big that that each world is about 3-4 areas in wow and there are 17 different world. each person has a story line behind him, you don't get that in other MMOs. weapons, armour and the force, and last but not least it's a fully voiced MMO, and that is something that has never happened before in an MMO. i think and 1000s would agree, it is great.

dozens of identical characters running and jumping around in your vicinity doing the same thing you're doing is why mmos can never compare to single player rpgs in terms of atmosphere. Non-dynamic combat system, an exact copy of 90% of mmos to date, this game is nothing new except for the star wars skin

@Jonjoloe - Do you understand the fact that a video has both a visual and audio component? So when I say I'm not watching them, I'm listening to them, it should be pretty clear what I mean. I like Star Wars (4-6), but this EU crap is all the same. Either it makes SW characters much more significant than they actually are (ie boba fett), or they need to be so tied to SW that they keep revisiting the same themes and even the same planets (ie worthless Tatooine when the galaxy has millions).

I understand your frustration, but the reason why Tatooine is constantly revisited is for "familiarity," people want the "Star Warsy" feel so they need to include the iconics. Do I agree ? No, but at the same time TOR is at least including a fair amount of new material and planets and a slightly stronger story line even if it's Republic vs Empire again.

The prequels were just one big attempted fan wank and failed horribly. And TOR pretty much carries over the feeling of the prequels. Big light saber battles? Jedi used to be "guardians of peace and justice" now they're just fodder with light sabers.

I hate how EVERY mmorpg that comes out has to use the EXACT SAME inerface, you've got your health and 'mana' or 'force' down at the bottom with your spells or powers, and you use the SAME ASWD keys... just where is their creativity? Come up with something different! I'm sick of drinking health potions and attempting to perform special moves using a combination of powers along the bottom of the interface. MAKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER MONEY-MAKER

Regarding WASD keys - if I made an MMORPG I would design a control pad for it as that would provide the best and funnest gameplay experience IMO.
