The only SNL sketch that got turned into a movie and actually WORKED as one.
It was really a perfect storm of a good director, a great script, truly kickass music, and John and Dan's and the rest of the ensemble's acting.
Biggest part of that success, however, probably came from the fact that they didn't have to WRITE Jake and Elwood as a "good band"... because they WERE one already!
Actually back when John and Dan were starting out on Saturday Night Live they were in a band named the Killer Bee's and they sang this song. Then when they realized how good they were at music they formed a new more professional band that went on to become the Blues Brothers Band.

Remembering the great Slim Harpo today! January 11, 1924 – January 31, 1970. The Blues Brothers sure paid homage to this man - lots of respect.
