@CapricornDavo Sorry Davo, I Haven't yet been able to find it and its not in my collection. But I have it on my list-so maybe, possibly, someday. Thanks for visiting. PH01
What was it with the 30's? It even made Ethel Merman cute. My grandparents made my parents in 31' & 32'. I love the music of the 30's and it's what sounds best on the organ IMO. I have a Wurlitzer 4500 that is the same as a 4502 theater organ, but in a straight cabinet. An excellent organ that you can still get parts for at Morelock's in Mississippi. Great Wurlitzer tone w/ spinning Spectratone inside. The 4300 is the spinet version. Organs are CHEAP on Clist. Send me PM if you need help-Paul..
Merman's just flat gorgeous looking here. What a sensational voice! They say that during this era, she could effortlessly hammer the back wall of the largest theatres on Broadway, forget about microphones. Thanks so much for sharing this gem with us.
Wow! She was a real nice looking 23 year old wasn't she??? The voice is definitely a little more restrained but it's still pretty loud! Thanks for this!
YES--ETHEL WAS YOUNG--AND STARRED IN "GEORGE WHITE'S SCANDALS" IN 1931 BEFORE THIS FILM/ TEXTBOOK SINGING THOSE LYRICS, AND i AGREE BETTER WITHOUT ALL THE VIBRATO THAT CAME LATER// BROADWAY'S FINEST **EVER**//
gee....sure wish i was that guy....i just love her when she was young...never believed she could be so pritty and sweet...would like to have lived back then.......thanks truly!!
@Bigman240 . . .and she still continued to be loved in spite of her vocal flaws because she was a likeable workhorse of an entertainer who was due respect for her past accomplishments -I do think many people must have remembered the bountiful voice of her 20s and 30s youth.
Did you notice how Ethel made the guy jump up after she started singing! He must have had cotton in his right ear! I'd never want to get into a shouting match with Ethel Merman! 5 stars
I am surprised at how sexually attractive I find ethel mermen, until she stands up.

Amazing job by Ms. merman

Wow! She had such vocal control in her early years. It was a seismic change from the Jolson-like crooning of the teens and 20s.
tommyrock69 1 year ago
@tommyrock69 You really think Jolson crooned? He invented belting!

And thanks to you for stopping by.

The pureness of her voice didn't last long. The wide vibrato became audible after a short time of belting...but her pizzazz never stopped!
Bigman240 2 years ago 4
Her voice definitely did not age like fine wine but her personality did.

@Bigman240 - You must have missed 2:15 on... She lets loose.
purps45 1 month ago
@purps45 Ah yes, the cabaletta! :-) The vibrato was still controlled here. Her voice was young and fresh!

Of course 5*, but it could be YT joke for 1 April (upside down)
Gadomska 2 years ago
Great as usual - She never needed a mic.
HarborGuy 2 years ago 2
When I made this vid' I had to record the sound at 40% to keep Ms. Merman's "bell-tone" voice from blowing out the speakers.
preservationhall01 2 years ago
I've seen it as 1st April joke: upside down, so I responded promptly, now is normal and thank you for the Ethel Merman posting, very nice

Someone didn't like this -they gave it 1*. HaHa
