i think what you're talking about here is my inability to decide what to play next as these clips were improvised and recorded on the spare of the moment. But in answer to your question i think you'll have to look at it as either a long 6/4 bar or short 2/4 pick up before the main groove kicks in.
Hi Joberle, the snare is a Noonan Custom 13x5. The heads are Remo Coated Ambassadors top & clear Ambassadors underneath. I tend to crank the top head to get more shell tone with a touch of Moongel or Duck tape to take the ring off. I have used all kinds of snare wires over the years but for consistency but for that crisp military funk sound, I would always choose Pure Sound with 8 or 12 snare wires. Not 16 or 20. Too much snare buzz unless you choke it. cheers, Darren
He didn't lose timing. That's something called level 3 playing. You slip yourself out of the current time into an open-ended section (yet still staying in time) and then coming back. Think of it with Frank Sinatra and how he sang. Drag behind, then come back to the downbeat.
niiiice snare. i wish that my p.o.s. export snare was that good and sensitive. ill probably upgrade to a pearl maple smx sometime soon. with a reference snare.
Snare looks and sounds like a steel piccolo. My 3" brass Piccolo has what I call a "stadium ring" effect. I paid $50 used on ebay and a nice piece to swap in every so often.
For me to rate a drum teaching video and find little to fault is a joy. I would like to see some passion dude feel the drums some more and I think you are on a winner with your parradiddles.
Would also be nice to see them at that tempo in 32nd notes.
Snare drum sounds mechanical. Nice feel with your cymbals.
Man i used to play stuff like that when i was younger. The paradiddles are cool but so damn hard to put into practical use. I always go out of time when playing paradiddles, and so did you a little :P But still, cool groove :) Did you ever see Dave Weckl's back to basics or the other video where he demonstrates paradiddles on a kit? Pretty nice grooves.
what the hell did he really go out of time at all? it sounds so perfect to me, I guess i have an untrained ear. it's back to drawing board for me, with a metronome this time!
it's all about the groove! nice im lefty too.

oh baby. one question: is the fill at 0:15 and the very end in a different time signature? or is that just a weird accent pattern...

TeenageTitFreaks 3 years ago
he lost timing right at the start and twice near the end. so that's a total of 3. just want to add.

on this video, I was playing with Vater 2B's, which are like tree trunks, but I also use 5B's and 8A's for other styles. (either Vic Firth or Vater)

Nice groove there, as well as the Level 3 bits. It's good to see someone posting a drumset video that's not punk or something dumb. Good work
