    The sledgehammer had a Cd of 0.29 - the Z06 is 0.31. This was modified and should be a little better. The sledgehammer also hit top speed on a 7.5 mile long oval...the Z06 did it in just one mile from stand still. I'd say this Z06 would top out around 250 mph...but it's still not a production Corvette like the Callaway.

    The Colani Corvette, based on the C4, has a Cd of 0.19, and went 254 mph with a 770 hp big block! It'd go 275+ mph with the Z06's 1000 hp engine :)

  • @Radioflyer97 I would imagine either racers tape, high quality duck tape, or gaffers tape which is like duck tape with a cloth backing. Ultimately some good duck tape will seal the gaps and help out.

  • I don't know cause I don't have a c6 I drive around in a c4 but I think he was driving with his emergency brake on. I've only driven a c6 like twice. Idk. But if he was that's pretty dumb since he's a professional driver.

    This was a stock block with forged bottom end. It had stock floppy rubber mounts, -hence the bad shifts because the engine would not stay in the same place with over 1000 ft pounds of torque. tires were used race tires, never got to tepm so they spun easily even over 100 mph. I know this was easy, and anyone could have done it LOL In fact it was so easy that no one has done it there without NOS BUt hey, what do i know??

  • sorry if i came off poorly , i didnt know all the info 9 and honestly i didnt look into the info on the car . vettes just arent my thing though i have plenty of hands on with them. have you all tried drag bags in the rear suspension. and for an oem block with internals, you all actually did do pretty damn well . now i like it a lot better knwoing all of that .

    this car was a customer's car who wanted to drive it on the street but he wanted to see what it would do in the Standing mile. So we did what he wanted and it was a blast :)

    so not to worry. All racing is a blast, and who knows,"WHEN GOVERNMENT WILL END ALL RACING" to save some snail or something.

  • The LS3 weighs less than most cast iron I4's and I6's, even without including the weight of all the turbo components AND makes more than 400hp (and more than likely makes more torque). Also, there isn't a single STOCK 2.0l that makes as much power as any of GM's V8's used in their current sports cars (LS3, LSA, LS7, LS9). About the suspension argument, LGM (the creators of this video) sell amazing coilovers for all 4 corners of the C5 and C6.

  • i do have more appreciation as i watch the video , and since fast2882 added his input, as for coil overs , about time...LOL...at least its not a mustang. all i know is , i can build either I4/V6 able to outpower and or out perform almost any oem stock v8 from gm for the same i not less than what i takes to buy the v8 , for $5k , i would have a 500+hp capable engine , also , most japanses blocks are alluminum , at least the ones i deal with , so the power to weight is substantially less.

  • I don't think you realize how cheap you can build an LSX motor. 500 at the wheels from a $5000 budget build is weak. I stroked and built my own single turbo LS1 for about $4000, it made more than 500 to the wheels (much more torque) and that's an understatement.

  • my problem really with Gm motors is the heads , why havnt they gotten into dohc engines, hate to use the ford 4.6 asan example , but that and no ohc modernization is a real dissapointment. idk . have you been in a new camaro,,,, not to impressive, interior is 80's quality or less. just seems to be pretty on the outside and then tossed together through out the rest . as for vettes , i just dont liek the steering characteristics slow and high speed.

  • As for the weight argument, an LS1 weighs 450lbs including a 4l60e automatic. To put that into perspective, an SR20det (which you know also has an AL block and head) also weighs 450lbs...

  • ok, your not off , when it comes to an sr you cant produce the trque of the LS, but... i have a vh45de, paid$580 for it ,  build/balnce/ported heads and deced all for $1300, i went high compression , but had i not , at 7psi id make 500+, i can make the manifolds and turbo set up, and the motor (after makeing my own head gaskets) would make 700+at 18psi for under well say $2500.. so yes to an extent i understand your points. look into the vh45de and vhr35r in wikipedia

  • I'm familar with the VH and VRH Nissan motors. I've also owned an LS1 240sx and a 1990 300ZX TT myself. I know a decent amount about Nissan and I would kill for an S30 with a 408 or larger under the bonnet. As for the ohc comment, the ohc design allows for the motor to be very compact and light. It also allows for large displacement without having a large exterior volume. An LSX, volume wise, is smaller than a 2jz for example.

  • LS is way smaller than the vh size wise , i give you that . and 2jz is a stout motor as well as the RB , plus they are belted , not chained , so its a lot easyer to mess with timing and maintnance. anywyas, if i could do my build over , id go LS , i just had thoughtthis LG car was a zr1 , its not , its a zo6 , so half of what i said months ago was with that miss understanding , so dont get me wrong , and i appreciate your points , it puts me in a better direction. but my hearts a nissan.

  • The VRH is a race motor, so you can't compare it to much. GM has made a dohc design, but it cost more, weighed less, and produced less power than it's new motor. I'm talking about the LT5 VS the LS6. They're both 5.7L but the LS6 makes more hp, torque, weighs less and is mcuh cheaper to manufacture. The LT5 is DOHC and yet the LS6 is ofcourse OHC.

  • see, i built my car , and maybe its a pride thing , but i put the vh in my s13 shassis with a 300zx trans , i built the adapterplates and had no factory support then 5 yrs ago , or now. i make 320and 320 , with a jim wolf ecu. run 12.2 , use a msd launch master. 17x9 tire, motor is just built w/ oem components, and i do 120 in 4th , never maxed out yet . but compared to a base ls block , id pick mine, problem is , no aftermarket , so its all R&D , but I built it. no mazworx fabbed parts .

  • Yeah, I've seen VH45 S13's, pretty neat set-up. They are stout motors even in stock form. They are ltd in aftermarket and I'm pretty sure you're stuck at 4.5L, maybe you can bore it out. I just prefer the LS series because of its huge aftermarket, great mix of torque and top end power and how easy it is to work on and make power with. I also like nissan. My dream car would be an S30 (240z) with a TT LSX (427 or 454) with an IMSA fiberglass body and Liberty 5-speed manual. Now I just need $60k+

  • lt5 motor looks nice , i liek the tuned intak e runners also , id bet they went wrong on the valve train and or smaller cam profile to make emmisions. like in the 96 vh45de , they made infiniti drop the vtc feature , motor lost 30whp just to make it pass. dont ever buy a 96 vh45de..LOL.or a 90-93( well those had the best heads, chain guides were plastic). anyways, that LT5 motor is pretty sick . whats your mentality on wenkel rotor engines. no hands on with them , but what a great concept.

  • The wankel rotary engine is great in concept, but has loads of problems as you know in practice. A 20b or fabbed 26b can make loads of power and torque, but they are pretty heavy at that size. I don't have first hand experience with them either, but my 13b-rew friends keep going on about ports and apex seals, yadda yadda yadda. I tell them to dump it for an LS and they normally tell me to shut it. LOL. The 13b is kind of lacking torque too...

  • The LS1 and LS6 are 346cu inches, while the LT1 and LT5 are 350cu inches (both 5.7l). The LT1 is basically an EFI first gen chevy V8, the LS (LS1,2,3,4,6,7,9,A) motors are a whole new 3rd and 4th gen breed of motors (called vortec) as of 1997. When converting from cubic inches to liters there is room for leeway. For example: a chevy 5.0l ranges from 302-305 cu inches.

  • The 5.3 you have is likely a vortec motor and bares strong resemblance to the LS motors (interchangable parts). Thus, it uses a different block than the conventional chevy small block. The 327 is essentially a 350 with a shorter stroke and is a conventional first gen small block. The two have some similarities and are both referred to as 5.3l but its incorrect to refer to your 5.3l as a 327, its a 325. Liters aren't as exact as cubic inches or cubic centimeters, that's why they are both 5.3l.

  • The LS6 is a 6.0 not a 5.7... and its not LT5 its LT4, and onto your list of 3&4 gen engines you need to add the truck/suv engines like 4.8,5.3,LQ4,LQ9 (both of which are 6.0's) Other than that you are correct.

  • You're mistaken, the LS6 IS a 5.7l. The LT4 and LT5 are different motors. The LT4 is an LT1 with a hotter cam and better heads. The LT5 is a dohc motor with heads designed by lotus and only offered in the C4 ZR1. Do a google search of an LS6 and a google search of C4 ZR1 to see what I'm talking about. Or PM for links. BTW, I'm aware of the Vortec LS motors, like the LQ9, LY6, L76, etc. ; )

  • 2005 m3 , 1991 240sx with vh45de v8 from a Q45 , built with cp pistons and carillo rods , balanced and ported and polished , 2004 r1 ......and no , it doesnt impress me at all , i have hands on with over 200 cars in south florida from jeremy mortellaro from upr , to titan motorsports , to masportspeedshop who tunes moser and helped build diablosport to what it is today . i build real race cars daily ... so , as a stock production car it cool , but i have and can build a better car for less

  • thats the point, its stock and its a 3.2 second car, and im pretty sure the Q45 is from a luxury car, while the zr1's engine is purely built to handle immense heat with the use of titanium and aluminum alloys, a race car should have aerodynamic properties for down force, it already comes with performance inter cooler, carbon ceramic brakes, massive tires, but dont get me wrong I also love imports and tuning but you have to give respect where respect is needed.

  • do some research into the vh45de engine , its a quad cam 32 valve 4.5 liter , makes 278hp stock , but its an under rated engine , more like 300-315 (crank rated).. anyways that has nothing to do with this car , you asked what i have so i told you... and again , if id turbo it , at 10psi i make 500+. oh , and i run a 12.2 in that car as of now .. so id guyess a high 10 sec once turboed , oh , and after build cost i have spent $9500 as of now on it...LOL...your poit just blew up on you.

  • when you start to go speed over 150 aerodynamics start to com into play, so even a Civics with 800 hp will have a hard time hitting 200 with out a lot aerodynamic aid's. Corvettes can hit 200 fairly easily because they have spent a long time in the wind tunnel.

  • Why LSX? Thats a Cast Iron block and you would be adding lbs. Unless your going over 1000hp it is unnecessary

    Believe it or not but the corvette ZO6 is a very sophisticated car, its motor is not but it works. but the chassis is very advanced made mostly out of Aluminum, the hood, fenders, and floor are made out of carbonfiber. the motor uses titanium conn-rods, and the motor is cast aluminum. I'm not a Corvette flag waver but I can appreciated good engineering, and that is what the Corvette is.

  • its about time that a freakin 7 liter Z06 goes past 205 mph. There are BMW which much less power that reach 200 easy, Supras reach 200mph easy. The 2.8 liter 6 cylinder AWD JUN Skylne reaches 234 miles perhour easily. So props to Z06 but a little late and Not enough speed, should've atleast matched the skyline with that big of an engine.

  • HI Guys, 1000 ft pounds of torque with stock rubber engine and trans mounts had the shifter moving all around making it a "Mystery shifter". And if you look at the part with the speedo in Red, when we shift out of 4th it is over 165mph and it was a handful. But I appreciate that it looked bad and it is what it is. Check out some of the other Fast2882 video here with the H pattern boxes with solid mounts and you will see the difference still a blast....LG

  • It's not the drver. My '05 does not like getting into 5th at high speeds. I've done shifts from 4th above 140mph and have had the same problem. We could both suck too...

  • Only catch is a 15 year old Toyota bettered the Twin Turbo Z06's standing mile trap speed by 32mph. Which at that level is like the difference in performance between a Geo metro and a Lamborghini. To be fair though the Supra did weigh about 300 pounds more.

  • I am pretty sure that was on a 7 mile oval at TRC in Ohio where they did the test. This run was a standing Mile.

    Either way, they are both fast and noteworthy.
