  • this is totally my grandmother

  • what kinda couch iz that? it looks like it is missing cushions

  • What kind of a MAN is this??? I would have told the old bag to piss off.

  • Greatest ending ever

  • john is sooo handsome in this sketch...

  • Argh... If she were my mother I wouldn't hang around. I'd strangle her in the first 30 seconds. Even though it's fictional, it makes me angry just watching it. I feel sorry for John here.

  • Amazing how they spot the reverses of human nature. The worse is that all that they show in this video is REAL!!! Everyone might be on John's place.

  • wow john looks rather attractive in the exact scetch :) pink suits him or something)

cool one, "mother' actress is doing a great job))

  • oh!!! john so look handsome scene very funny XD

  • "If you go between 9 and 9:30, that's just bad luck."

    lol

  • "Dad,mother's going to have a cry!"

  • what i found amazing in this sketch was

"Christine Weadon" was wife of Tim Brooke-Taylor.

    how witty they are

  • i'll make a list of famous stranglers.... lol.

  • Oh, how CAN you be so cru-EL?

  • who plays the mother???

  • Well, the only woman in the film (besides Connie Booth, and I assure you, I WAS NOT her) is Gillian Lind. Says IMDb. So, therefore...

  • God, he's tall!

  • 6'5''

  • "She cant get enough of it!"

Hot damn, I cant get enough of him!

  • love when "mother" sends Cleese on a guilt trip XD

  • haha this reminds me of seinfeld

    [but funnier]

  • Hmm, the last line saved you from being hunted down by an angry pack of Monty-fans(led by me among others) to be stoned to death for blasphemy.

  • phew!

  • I actually don't know wich one is better.

  • well then you need to watch more monty python lol

  • Both shows are suberb.

  • naaa monty python

  • and me as 2nd in command

  • This is a perfect example of Jewish guilt.

  • What's the name of this film? because from the comments I've read it isn't MP

  • It's called "How to Irritate People". It's pre-Python

  • "I shan't be with you much longer." "Well if you pass away between nine and nine thirty, that's bad luck!" :D

  • What Cleese says in 6:44? I don't understand it ;)

  • She can't get enough of me frankly

  • -dad?

    -huh?

    -NUMBER TWO!

brilliant sketch, but some of those guilt trips make me CRINGE.

  • WHEEW That was funnY!

  • wow, that has described situations with my mom to a tea sometimes.

Except for the pub and loose women of course. :)

  • fans, can anyone identify the actress who played mother in this sketch? i thought she did very well, not being a primary character on this show. i wonder if she had any major roles in her career as an actress.

  • Her name was Gillian Lind, and she was a British character actress active from the early 1930s to the early 1970s. Her work is listed on the IMDB.

  • Good sketch ;) What a difference from Monty Python...

  • Mmmm, yes. Feminism caused irritating mothers. Very good. You're a clever boy.

  • Oh, and by the way, she's going off to spread the gossip about "Christine" being a "loose woman," not to ruin the date. If you're going to try to furnish the general public with some incisive social commentary every time you watch a thirty-year-old seven-minute comedy sketch that somehow includes a woman, you'd better learn how to watch and follow.

  • kill her, KILL HER NOW!

  • Reminds me of my home vacation .. :)

  • think its everybodys home trips

  • this is my favorite part, out of this film

  • when he said number 4, he put up 5 fingers.

  • jolly good show old champs

  • Is that an incidentual misspelling of "chap" or did you mean that MP are champions? Last one is true, first one is a mistake.

  • She is just like my mother.

  • This is real life - mothers prepare their sons for husbands. A woman go ouat with one tipe of guys, and get married with onother tipe of guys. Totaly different from one another. So what tipe are you "bad boy" or "whoop (slap) boy"? Think abouth that. ;)

  • Dad, mother's going to have a cry.

  • O.O... this IS exaaaactly what happens when I go home... replace "flying" with staying by your computer.. and the job with a programmer, but wow.

  • Mother, since I got home two days ago, we have discussed, in detail: socks, keeping warm, sensible underwear, my hair being too long, the trouble Mrs Gaskill had with her fourth, what happened to the greeny-brown pullover, how I got in with the wrong set, and how much you and dad hate me flying. Which, as I pointed out, is one of the snags about my being an airline pilot. We may not have discussed the moral dilemma of twentieth-century man, but we certainly have "talked", Mother.

  • "Your own mother has a right to know these things."

    "No she doesn't."

    "Dad, number 4."

"Why do you want to go out with Christine?"

    "Because she's a LOOSE WOMAN."

  • lol What a manipulative bitch!

  • You see when I get caught in this I JUST BE "CRUEL" AND DON'T CARE!

  • With a mother like that, he could have ended up like Norman Bates!

  • I almost spewed my drink out at 2:07 because of the punchline of this dialogue:

    Mother!

Since I got home two days ago we have discussed, in detail: Socks, keeping warm, sensable underwear, my hair being too long, the trouble Mrs. Gasgo had with her fourth, what happened to the greeny browned pullover how I got in with the wrong set and how much you and dad hate me fly... wich, as I pointed out is one of the snags of me being an AIRLINE PILOT!

    Hilarious! Absolutely hilarious! :-)

  • well if you bo between 9 and 9.30 thats bad luck...

  • hahaha it's my gran!!

  • Is that one of the two mad women from Fawlty Towers?

  • lol they had this dvd at my library can you believe it? it was so funny. wheres that one where there watching tv and the dad keeps saying "this is one of those costumes thingies..." i love that one.

  • I can relate on this a regular bases (ball and chain).

  • great hahaha monty python rules 4 ever !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This isn't MP, but yes, it does:)

  • I think some of the skits have been used in Monty Python though. I think the one with the job interview and MAYBE the airline sketch may have been used.

  • whore

    Cleese for '08!

  • she can't get enough of it... poooo-ahahahahaha!!!!

  • this video is skilfully irritating.

  • BECAUSE SHE IS A LOOSE WOMAN

    lol

  • lol I like how the mum cries and then abruptly goes back to normal lmao! classic.

    =]

  • John Cleese is BRILLIANT... WHen you watch this video, you see a master at work... he's PERFECT as the role of the "exasperated son"....

  • I think everyone watching this can find here at least a bit of his/her own mother.

  • Amen.

  • men wore pink shirts back then too? i thought it was a new thing

  • so this was before monty pythons flying circus started right?

  • Yes, in 1968. David Frost was looking to introduce the "new" style of British humor (sorry, <i>humour</i>) to America, and he produced this show specifically for the American market but it never aired here.

  • Oops. I take it back. It aired once in the US, in January, 1969.

  • "If the pub's more important to you than your own mother..." That's my mom!!! lol

  • I can relate 0.o

  • I can, as well.

  • because she's a loose woman!

  • " number 5!"

  • ROFLMAO!!! i love john cleese that was a classic video of me and my mum talking about anything:)

"i shan't be here for much longer!" lol funny stuff

  • My God - I can just see this being me and my mum in five years time. I'm only 16 and we're already having conversations like this!

  • "BECAUSE SHE IS A LOOSE WOMAN."

    I love that.

  • This is hilarious.

Socks, keeping warm, sensible underwear, getting in with the wrong set...

Sounds like a conversation with my mother.

  • i love this sketch. and I like the crack about the wooden horse trick

  • He was 29 at the time.

  • wow

  • John Cleese looks so young!

  • voila...my momma.

  • OHMYGOSH,

my mother's like this tooo ):

  • I've got the video to this...great stuff

  • That is my mother to a T

bloody annoying as hell, just like that.

  • yeah, I agree with Endrawinia, thats exactly how my mother does it! =P

  • lol mothers are sneaky like that

  • he kinda looks like morrissey

  • is it just me or does anyone else find cleesey outstandingly attractive in this sketch..pink is so hot on him lol

  • Most men can't wear that color, makes them look gay but he pulls it off perfectly! He's cute in that old fashion kind of way..

  • John Cleese's eyes. It's those eyes. Utterly gorgeous.

I love the woman playing Mom, though. She and John have great acting chemistry together. "Your mother has a right to know these things." "No, she doesn't!"

  • He does look gorgeous! He carries pink off amazingly well...

    Beautiful eyes too...

  • "No she doesn't" LOL!

  • "...she can't get enough of it, mother..."

  • Yeah lol. "Because she's a loose women!"

  • Yup, that's exactly how they do it =D

  • great stuff!

  • HA! Mothers have found many ways of being irritating...

  • funny
