The "Pitbull Problem" is not that pitbulls are a bad or aggressive breed. It's that the WRONG people are getting ahold of them. Too many are being bred by irresponsible "breeders" for irresponsible owners. There are more "pitbulls" in the world than many other breeds, and most of the people who are attracted to them are the wrong kind of person to own them - and it's because the media spends so much time making them look scary, so people who want scary dogs as a status symbol get a pitbull.

I wish there were stiffer fines and longer jail times for the people and i use that word lightly that training their dog to fight or be aggressive maybe that would really make these beings think before doing this to this great breed of dog I have had my girl for almost four years now and she is the best dog I have ever known and my girl came from a dog fighting home she has never shown any kind of aggressive action with dogs or people so i know for a fact pitbulls can be rehbilitated
I was chased twice by aggressive pit bulls and after being terrified I still dont judge the breed. I love these dogs and most rescues ive met have been friendly but know I could never be the right type of owner for this breed.Its great if you can give a bully breed a new home but you still have to be a certain type of owner for it work...adopting a bully breed because you have a big heart isnt enough sometimes.
My pure bred pit wouldn't for a second think of attack any person, wouldn't ever snap at a kid...a dog maybe she has a shorter temper with them. my dog was bred for human temperment and she was brough around an elementary school as a pup pup many times. Loves kids.

Pitbulls are GREAT dogs, I have a rescued pitbull, my roommate has one who is a rescued bait dog. BOTH are great with my two other dogs, a Pomeranian and a beagle mix, both are great with other dogs and people, fighting dogs CAN be rehabilitated, but it takes money, time, space, and PROFESSIONAL trainers, there are more fighting dogs, more dog aggressive dogs, then there is time, money, and space,until breeding gets under control BOTH fighting/DA dogs and GOOD pitbulls will be euthanized

I hate how they seem to think Chained dogs with scars automatically=Dog fighting. There are plenty of responsible owners who tether their dogs, it gives them more space than being in a crate all day. And APBTs are normally DA which means you can't exactly set them loose with each other unless you're prepared. They also may get into accidental fights which may cause scars. I've heard of people getting arrested for this kind of thing when they did nothing wrong. It's stupid.
I agree with the spay and neuter being a law but that should apply to ALL breeds of dogs not only pits. You should have to be licensed to breed any dog

Paul Renfrow heard his neighbor screaming for help and went to check on him. He said he found Bill Grider in a fetal position being attacked by a pitbull.

i love pitbulls to death, but a ban on them doesn't mean killing them and eradicating them. i think what they meant to do with the ban on pitbulls is to stop the irresponsible breeding of the animal, and stop flooding the shelters with so many pitbulls, and guess what, a great percentage of these pitbulls in the shelter gets put down, thus banning the breed would stop sending so many of them to the shelter.
Actually, out of the 51 pitbulls who were rescued from Mike Vick's operations, only 4 had to be euthanized. Of those four, 3 of them had severe medical issues that were beyond treatment and only 1 was too aggressive to be rehabilitated. So our SPCA friend Eric Sakach is wrong. And LA Deputy DA Bob Ferber was also the man who stated that pit bulls have a bite force of "3,000 psi" which is just grossly and factually untrue. They average around 235 psi.
^ sorry but i ran out of space before - just watch the "Bite Force" episode of Dangerous Encounters with Dr. Brady Barr and you'll see that the only animal coming near a 3,000 psi bite force is the Nile Crocodile, who actually has a bite force of around 5,000 psi. So far a good video, but that mis-statement MUST be corrected, otherwise we'll have more people ignorant of the facts regarding this amazing breed of dog.

@HedgieDiva it was an American Pit Bull Terrier; I know the difference. And regardless, no dog comes close to a 1,000-3,000 psi bite force. Not even extra large dogs, like Kangals, Ovtcharkas, Mastiffs, Tosas, Akbashes, or any other similarly sized dog. I reviewed the video again, and I can say with confidence that the dog IS an American Pit Bull Terrier, (and a good looking one at that) and not an American Bulldog or that ridiculous variety of APBT people call "American Bullys."

The person that made this documentary must not have much knowledge of dogs or at least German Shepherds. A few times now since the beginning of this documentary the German Shepherd is mentioned and they end up showing a Belgian Malinois.

It's a sad fact that no one wants to look at the therapy dogs that are pitbulls, or the pitbulls that save peoples lives. These "modern day" pit bulls can be a very good pet in the right hands. They do / can have the ability to cause harm on humans. Therefore anyone who owns this breed or any other breed known for the ability to hurt people should be aware of this and take measures to ensure to reduce the risk of an attack. In no way do I believe they should be put down just because of the breed.

I liked this documentary until they started showing protection training. Controlled protection training is still potentially dangerous and can get out of hand. Also, "breeders" that they portrayed in the documentary didn't seem very professional. I'm a little disappointed.

I was chased twice by aggressive pit bulls and after being terrified I still dont judge the breed. I love these dogs and most rescues ive met have been friendly but know I could never be the right type of owner for this breed.Its great if you can give a bully breed a new home but you still have to be a certain type of owner for it work...adopting a bully breed because you have a big heart isnt enough sometimes.

Pitbulls are GREAT dogs, I have a rescued pitbull, my roommate has one who is a rescued bait dog. BOTH are great with my two other dogs, a Pomeranian and a beagle mix, both are great with other dogs and people, fighting dogs CAN be rehabilitated, but it takes money, time, space, and PROFESSIONAL trainers, there are more fighting dogs, more dog aggressive dogs, then there is time, money, and space,until breeding gets under control BOTH fighting/DA dogs and GOOD pitbulls will be euthanized

I hate how they seem to think Chained dogs with scars automatically=Dog fighting. There are plenty of responsible owners who tether their dogs, it gives them more space than being in a crate all day. And APBTs are normally DA which means you can't exactly set them loose with each other unless you're prepared. They also may get into accidental fights which may cause scars. I've heard of people getting arrested for this kind of thing when they did nothing wrong. It's stupid.

Neighbor rescues Bullitt County man from attack by pet pitbull
KY - A central Kentucky man has saved his neighbor from an attack by a dog.
Paul Renfrow heard his neighbor screaming for help and went to check on him. He said he found Bill Grider in a fetal position being attacked by a pitbull.
Renfrow said he threw the dog off Grider and it lunged at him, so he shot and killed the animal, which belonged to Grider.
He is listed in critical condition.

Actually, out of the 51 pitbulls who were rescued from Mike Vick's operations, only 4 had to be euthanized. Of those four, 3 of them had severe medical issues that were beyond treatment and only 1 was too aggressive to be rehabilitated. So our SPCA friend Eric Sakach is wrong. And LA Deputy DA Bob Ferber was also the man who stated that pit bulls have a bite force of "3,000 psi" which is just grossly and factually untrue. They average around 235 psi.

^ sorry but i ran out of space before - just watch the "Bite Force" episode of Dangerous Encounters with Dr. Brady Barr and you'll see that the only animal coming near a 3,000 psi bite force is the Nile Crocodile, who actually has a bite force of around 5,000 psi. So far a good video, but that mis-statement MUST be corrected, otherwise we'll have more people ignorant of the facts regarding this amazing breed of dog.

@HedgieDiva it was an American Pit Bull Terrier; I know the difference. And regardless, no dog comes close to a 1,000-3,000 psi bite force. Not even extra large dogs, like Kangals, Ovtcharkas, Mastiffs, Tosas, Akbashes, or any other similarly sized dog. I reviewed the video again, and I can say with confidence that the dog IS an American Pit Bull Terrier, (and a good looking one at that) and not an American Bulldog or that ridiculous variety of APBT people call "American Bullys."

We, the vast majority of people who don't like pit bulls, are the best solution to this problem; we don't buy pit bulls, we don't breed them, we don't fight them, we don't expose our children and neighbors to them, we don't expose other dogs to them. But we have the obligation to know them better, and to share with others what we learn about these dogs: they can be turned into normal pets. That's what they're supposed to be, NORMAL PETS. The Bullenbeisser of Brabante (Baviera, Germany) was turned from Bullenbeisser (or German Bulldog) into the modern day Boxer. Spanish Alano is a different dog - also directly related to the ancient mastiff-type dogs, and also known as Dogo Mallorquín. Presa Canario could very well be that same primitive molossus. That you can find in a lot of other sources.
Dog fighters belong nowhere in modern Western societies, pit bulls have bad raps because of them.

These "modern day" pit bulls can be a very good pet in the right hands. They do / can have the ability to cause harm on humans. Therefore anyone who owns this breed or any other breed known for the ability to hurt people should be aware of this and take measures to ensure to reduce the risk of an attack. @lakings777 that excerpt came straight out of the BSL in Lakewood, OH. it goes on to state that the director of public safety (or his designee) is the one that decides whether or not your dog is a pit. the burden of proof that you're talking about can be brought up in a HEARING after they've already seized your dog, impounded him, and he's probably caught something from the kennel they've kept him in. do you want some links of people that have had to hide their LABS to prevent their removal?

I liked this documentary until they started showing protection training. Controlled protection training is still potentially dangerous and can get out of hand. Also, "breeders" that they portrayed in the documentary didn't seem very professional. I'm a little disappointed.

@npgiovani Heres the thing, yes they were bred for fighting but they do not compare to the APBT. You wont see anybody in fighting circles bring those dogs to the pit. Atleast not in the U.S. From my understanding is that there are some game dogs in the U.K but those dogs from the U.K look different than dogs in the U.S. But like I said their level of gameness cant be compared to the APBT. Tough dogs though.
