i had to get my husband back here to listen to this-he is a music professor at a college here in san antonio-he plays flute,sax ,keyboard and sings and toured with some of the great soul singers like Ben E. King, the Shirelles, Johnny Winter and many others. I used to have (sad that I have to use a past tense) every album of his on CD. A friend copied them from the original vinyls (except for DAVID, I had a numbered copy) ... And I recognized every squeal,squeak, and holler here ... But I never REALLY considered what ruff's range was ... it's insane to see it layed out before me. And here we are (as a society) giving Hanah Montana our hard earned money .... God I wish we still valued talent. Anywho enough ranting lol ... Great vid. Thanks for it.

A very extremely talented man who was very troubled and never got the recognition that he deserved as a solo artist. He was a rebel and it cost him big time! What a shame his talent was wasted with politics. He really was the reason the Temptations evolved. So sad that the drugs finally got the best of him.

David Ruffin WAS 'The Temptations'. Not to discredit the number of great voices that the group contained, but if there was ever a "lead voice" in that group, it was David - he carried the group in its glory years.

He was definitely the best singer on Motown. Marvin Gaye although talented did not have the overall range Ruff had

Most impressively, even with an incredible range, that wasn't even the most impressive he had to offer. His tonality, that warm rasp and his impassioned way of expressing that sort of glorious anguish were uniquely his own.

Probably my favorite singer of all time, with range being icing on the cake. I only wish he had access to better material later in his career. Things must have been seriously wrong, having your best album unreleased until 13 years after your death.

Wish he was still here.
