Partly true, although I'm used to frame rates much worse than this (and in slower paced games like DA:O I'm quite willing to sacrifice speed to gain a little extra eye candy). Also, FRAPS eats up a lot of the available resources, which means that the difference in performance between recording and not recording can be rather significant on low to mid-range computers like this.
Like many of the classic PC games which inspired it, Dragon Age is more about tactical combat than the vast majority of RPGs these days. So yes, you could say that DA:O also has a lot more in common with strategy games than with simpler action-oriented games, say, like Fallout 3 and The Witcher.
Hmm. I didn't hear anything about a "standard JRPG" (i.e. old school WRPG) mode, but perhaps that was something they were thinking about doing earlier in the development process?
At any rate, the end result is a mix of the classic Baldur's Gate gameplay and some of their previous 3D RPGs (Knights of the Old Republic in particular).
This game looks really interesting. I'll probably get it after I get a better computer.
The only contact I had with Baldur's Gate is the demo of the second game (I've been looking for the first one without any results). So I wonder, how does combat is compared to Baldur's Gate's in this one?
Yes, I suppose 3D in particular has a way of complicating things that really could have been much easier. Having to worry about positioning the camera at the same time as you're planning tactics and executing commands can become an awfully messy process, even on a PC...
is it my eyes or the gameplay isn't fluid because you have settings beyond what your PC can handle?

It annoyed me to no end that the rogues they temporarily assign you in the early parts of the game are unable to pick locks or detect traps.

Though didn't they say you could play this as a standard JRPG (turn based), a tactical and also as an action RPG?

Those games are so "cinematic" now... It feels barely playable. I miss Baldur's Gate's simplicity.
