  • This is a brilliant speech. We need our students to have purpose, they really need to be exposed to content but they really need to control the purpose. Technology can help us with this really bright idea. Good job, Alan November!!!

  • Fantastic; just so heart warming to think that there are enlightened educators out there advocating purposeful and collaborative learning. The boring passive learning that is the norm will no longer work with our kids that have so many other entertaining alternatives and it is not fair on the teachers trying to practice a teaching methodology that is not sustainable.

  • Hail to any TEDx'rs?? Is there any call for not true and accurate captions in selected TEDx videos? at 35 seconds in this one,. the subway station is called "police station" when it's really Dudley Station. Alan at VerbatimIT

  • @AlanKinNA I'm so glad you mentioned captions, because Alan's talk is now completely captioned! Just click on the "cc" button. Thanks, TEDxNYED!

  • @emarcos - very cool. and hot... at the same time.

  • As teachers for tomorrow we agree that students must have the opportunity to create a legacy through their work. Students are not learning for us they are learning and creating information for the world. Empowered to develop and create relevant work can only happen when teachers open their minds to what education is. Authentic learning gives student ownership and the ability to create knowledge and instill a lasting desire to learn.

  • Finally we have an educator that discusses ways to solve a problem rather than defining a problem. Thank you for your practical ideas and strategies to improve education.

  • Just awesome! I have told the fan fiction story in all my education classes and to any of my colleagues that will listen. I've even tweeted about it. I am glad people can now hear Alan in person.

    Way to leave a legacy!
