  • Humans are bastards. We take and take and take and give back pollution and death.

  • going through the song i really did assume it was an ambient track, the 1:50 happened ...

  • The chorus in this song is very special to me, because when I look at human beings, its what I see. Moves me almost to tears when I hear it.

  • 10 people's didn't listen to the warning

  • the word human has the same definition as moron

  • I'm crying :(

  • @LittlePjusk why??

  • @kevkef300star Because of the text, of course. It's true, and horrible.

  • @Lillepjusk life is horrible

  • 2:57

    So damn beautiful...

  • Ah, that's it, that's right, oh my Go-, oh-I-think-I'm-gonna, Ohh! Deht! Deht! Eeee!

    ...Splooge!

  • So fucking awesome.

  • Fucking Beautiful...

  • 01011001 in binary is 27

  • @luchsinger1024 i don't know where you got this info but is badly wrong binary only represents one character so 27 would have 16 numbers (0's or 1's)

and multiple people have said it it is "Y"

  • @claudioanunciacao your right I was multiplying instead of using exponents

  • 01011001 literally translates as Y ... What?

  • @NSACLAN This album's story is about creatures known as "forevers" from Planet Y, hence the 01011001.

  • it has the same name as that muse song ....

  • @CleimNick Technically speaking muse's song has the same name as this Ayreon song because Muse's song was released in 2009 and Ayreon's was released in 2008

  • 10 people didn't listen to the warning.

  • One of the best songs on the album imo! The sixth extinction as the best!

  • Masterpiece

  • The part between 4:40 and 5:14 make humans sound like such bastards. But it is true.

  • @Annique True from a certain point of view. People who continue to point out humanity's bastardly tendencies never seem to acknowledge the flaw in that argument- who are we being compared to? What other species are we being measured against? How do we know that some alien species has risen as we have, and made even worse mistakes? That we can acknowledge our imperfections in the first place seems like a rather redeeming thing for humanity.

  • @Jordanationalismtion Well, what was true is the things described in those passages. I do believe mankind will turn around and witness the birth of a new civilization, a spiritual awakening that will truly bring all people together in peace. How much slaughter and sorrow must occur before we turn though, who knows? I don't know if I will see any major signs of that in this life, but when I join the Concourse on high I hope to aid those alive after ourselves in their efforts.

  • @Annique I would say that all this slaughter and sorrow are an unfortunate necessity. Global unity won't occur in the halls of the UN and it won't occur in the wake of a spontaneous awakening of faith- it will happen on the tip of a sword. The slaughter must be made constructive, limited, and used only when necessary, but when necessary, should be used without delay and without faltering. Someone has to drag humanity, kicking and screaming, into its new future.

  • @Annique

But it's only half the truth, they don't mention medical care, charity, art and so on

  • @Boahneeeehy That's true :P I actually do believe mankind is destined for glory and unity, I just hope that as little as possible suffering will precede it. Maybe I appreciate this apocalyptic genre because I DO believe we will stay clear of that in the end.

  • @Boahneeeehy

Tell that to the other animals.

  • @Boahneeeehy I quote from the song "Can you see the beauty in their art?"

  • The evolution of 9 people moved too slow.

    This album is a masterpiece.

  • is it just me or does the picture move and fade in and out of detail when watching it?

  • @MyHoratius Yeah it does

  • @MyHoratius you're just tripping balls from the awesomeness of this song.

  • @MyHoratius Yea, and the color contrasts change too.

  • I'm a fish!!!...f*ck it!....

  • @UrizenNihilation It's a computer language ... called the binary code.

    '01011001' translates to the letter 'Y' :)

  • Ayreon AKA, Arjen A. Lucassen's Space Metal ( Star One) - Check'em out! Same band, same cool sound.

  • 8 dislikes!?! how the hell-

  • @sio42 Fans of Rap/Hiphop, Emo, Justin Boober, Country Pop or some other garbage mainstream genre that provkes no thought or emotion.

  • @howdyfeller well thats pretty ignorant to say :( i dunno, the beatles, david bowie, and lily allen are all pretty decent pop musicians to me. hip hop is just poetry, poetry has emotion. so that is false to statement. emo has emotion right in the name. remember theres a difference between 80's emotional hardcore and todays corporate whored (fall out boy) and the emo scene (bunch of whiny attention whores)

there arent bad genres, just bad musicians.

  • @sio42 I am talking only about current mainstream artists, not classic artists. In the days of the Beatles, David Bowie and others, most all bands were given a chance for mainstream success and given airplay to test the waters. The current state of commercial music is very limited to what is actually aired to the masses. This was my main point. Emo may have emotion in the name but the music itself is completely without emotion. It is bland, simplistic and lacking of atmosphere

  • @howdyfeller you arent getting my point. genres are just names to describe a band. thats it. and generally i can say im not a fan of rap music i can still respect it as a musicial genre and i KNOW that saying it has no emotion or doesnt provoke thought is completely ignorant :( the same goes for pop music. the beatles and david bowie WERE mainstream. just like iron maiden and judas priest are mainstream.

lily allen is a young main stream pop musician who i have great respect for.

  • @sio42 remember. when i say "emo" im not talking about fall out boy. im talking about a form of emotional sad punk that sings about relationships and what not.

art is art. wether you like it or not. and thats okay if you dont like every musicial genre, i dont either. but PLEASE dont say foolish things that imply some genres are in fact worse then others.

  • This is one of my favorites of their's, it has so much feeling =)

  • Why did they make Hansi's vocals so quiet? D:

  • @Miunni The real question is HOW they did that :P

  • The more i listen, the more i listen. Was time that i didn`t listen a metal without cliches.

  • RIP Steve Lee

  • natural selection-survival of the fittest

    unnatural selection-survival of the richest

  • The lyrics are completely wrong.

  • from 4.40 to 5.12 its sooooooooo amazing !!!

all the world in lyrics :O

  • @tsounamis8 totally agree

  • This song is so damn catchy,I love it.....<3

  • 1:50- ...that is just brilliant, I'm always wowed by that part. *.*

    What a song...I love it.

  • freeing music

  • That´s kind of stuff i live for !!!

  • this is retarded as hell

  • is it just me or is do the lyrics seem racist or "imitating racists"? imitating like "look at us we're better than u" if u know what i mean...

  • @Heke32 the song is about an extraterrestrial race who looks down uppon humanity, it's creation, finding it's evolution to be inadequate to the purpose they have for it. the song is about how they argue about what they should do, wether they should intervene in humanity's development or not.

So it IS racist in a way.... but not against any race in particular, only to humanity in a whole.

So it IS racist in a way.... but not against any race in particular, only to humanity in a whole.

  • @Rouge3627 its not racist anyway lol human's aren't a "race" they are a species, and they are talking about an extraterrestrial life form. Anyone who thinks that it is racist is 1. drinking the koolaid too much and 2. never took an advanced bio class

  • @Gilbarath what's koolaid? xD And why racist, it,s art, and he talks about extraterrestrial life who (supposately) did DNA changing in us and who look at us.

  • @MishaMiou im responding to someone that says it was, i don't think it is

  • @Heke32 its not racist, they are talking about two different life forms, unless of course you think that some humans are different life forms than other humans lol which is retarded because we are all the same same species sharing 99% of the same DNA with the last 1% being superficial variation in skin color, facial and other morphogenetic differences.

  • @Gilbarath But the way we think is so different, were wired differently, and I'm not so sure that 1% can hold it.

  • @Gilbarath Not sure where you got your information from, but if your DNA differs 1% from mine, you could be an ape. DNA is such a massive amount of data, measuring in percent would mean humans share almost 100% the same DNA.

I still get your point though.

  • @Zaparter na, his point is ridiculous as dna doesn't account for environmental factors, for example. if you expose a range of subjects, both human and animal (separated only for argument's sake) to certain conditions, they will almost invariably share the same response(s). obviously there is a lot more that goes into it than that, but the idea that the varying ways in which we think is an argument against the slight differences we can observe in dna is ludicrous.

  • @Gilbarath are you a prophet? 99%?

  • @333sbr

    Are you a genius?

Did you finish your high school?

  • It`s HAMMER Great !

  • 4:40 - 5:23 the best part

"We gave them insight, what did they see?

Vanquish the noble, enslave the free!" EPIC

  • i read somewhere that the ninary number is meant to mean "help, forever, sos" but i cant think where i read it. forevers are the names of the aliens btw

  • @crimsonlondon you can read it on wikipedia

  • Such an awesome track. The keyboard hook is so simple, but so brilliant is just catches you and just drags you straight through to the kick!

  • What's the significance of the binary number 01011001 (89) ?

  • @nolobede

    89 is in ascii. It's Y. Planet Y.

  • @Ogmaer

Yes, Y ascii = 89. But 01011001 is binary. Wondered why

  • @nolobede Probably because the whole album is meant to be about the "superioirty" of the forevers...no doubt, they would feel good in knowing that they could twig it immediately, whereas there creations were at first below understanbding of concepts of Binary. Consider it a nerd joke if you will, the way some people write in Binary to outsmart those that dont get what it is, but used as a way to highlight the forevers superiority complex instead of the one from Nerds this time :)

  • @nolobede If i recall right it is the letter Y

supposed to be the nome of the home planet af the "aliens" singing

  • I don't want to live in a world that's dying. :(

  • don't want to live in a world that's dying

I want to die in a world that's living!

  • The. Most. Epic. Lyrics. EVER.

  • What can we say in lives we wreck?

I say we should find a way

    I say stop this decay

    it should be:

Can we save the lives we wrecked

I say we should find a way

    I say stop this decay

  • Begin 5:32 till 7:18 is good to

  • The lines from 4:40 to 5:15 are awesome

  • omg wonderfull can any1 tell me all of their albums? i gonna start listening to Ayreon

  • You're right! How could I have forgotten?

  • Your lack of education really shows in the comment.

  • I doupt you even like ayreon youtube spammer!

  • @Xiory Best albums:

    - The Final Experiment

    - Flight of the Migrator

    - Human Equation

    - 01011001

  • @gatotekpote

    Yep, tenés la posta.

  • Just look up Ayreon on Itunes, or on the internet

  • ten billion stars to this song.

  • Of course they are connected to each other! I don't want to tell it directly, but if you listen carefully the "Forever" of the Stars song from ItEC and the end of the 20. Day Twenty: Confrontation, you will understand the connection :) It's quite pleasure when you set the pieces on your own...

  • Aryeon never ceases to blow my mind!! Arjen you are brilliant!

  • This is phenomenal to me......nice to get some extra Ayreon in here.....genius composer!!!

  • 2:32 and a bit forward sounds like Tom S. Englund from Evergrey.

  • The first verse is also sung by Tom.

  • After my buddy shared with me The Human Equation, I feel compelled to get all his albums and share them with everyone close to me.

  • If you have any sort of imagination, this can be some pretty powerful fuel for any medium

  • 1:49 is just perfect. . .

Goosebumps every time I hear that. . .

  • hahahaha.... nuclear weapons... :D

  • Heehee! 8D

  • These are the most beautiful lyrics I have ever read in my entire life.

  • selection unnatural of the black dahlia murder was on my mind after reading the title of this song. anyway, good song!

  • Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

goooood song BEST album i think

  • love loveeee this song :D

  • Too bad the lyrics on this page are a bit off.

  • This album is a peice of art.

  • I almost read it as "This album is a piece of shit"...

Yeah, it truly is a great album.

  • this is a good song its a shame that you cant really hear hansi during his part...

  • Amazing Masterpiece, Ayreon forever! I can't wait for Guilt Machine!!! =D

By the way, there's a mistake in the description's lyrics, it should be:

"Don't want to live in a world that's dying,

I want to die in a world that's living"

    not

"Don't want to live in a world that's dying.

Don't want to live in a world that's dead."

    Just so you know. ;)

  • Al Gore sings the best lyrics in this song lol

  • They're Awesome.

Everything the made so far wa a Masterpiece!

But can anyone tell me, what the Number 01011001 stands for?

  • its a bit string for the letter Y

  • Referring to Planet Y

  • Not only the music is great, the lyrics are so deep and true too ^^ I love this song

  • For me this is the best album. Strong, clever, just AWESOME.

  • My thoughts exactly.

One of my favorite things in this song is they call Nuclear Weapons art.

My favorite line is: Their greatest foe is but a small microbe.

  • brilliant

  • catley+lee=masterpiece

  • ...?

  • Try to learn some Spanish instead of putting no-word comments imbécil! This is the WORLD WIDE web!

  • no shit, that means i can do what i want. and i cant learn spanish just like that dumbshit

  • This is not THE BEST album but it will do...

  • I can't see why anybody thinks this album is lesser to other ayreon albums, I think it's the best by far!

  • "Can we save the lives we wrecked?"

  • Vocalists I'd love to hear on an Ayreon album:

*Kjetil Nordhus, formally from Green Carnation - fantastic mid-range voice.

    *Stu Block, from Into Eternity.

*Noe Venable - She's a solo artist from the US. Not that well-known, but perhaps one of the best voices I've ever heard.

  • Warrel Dane needs to sing on Ayreon. He fucking rules.

  • Been saying that for years. Him and Tony Kakko.

  • YES PLEASE!!!

  • it's the binary code for Y

  • 1+3 = 4

which means this album is my favourite in every aspect of it

  • my mistake, the second line is

"I'd rather die in a world thats living"

  • its:

dont want to live in a world that's dying

i'd rather live in a world that's dead

    awesome song

  • i think it would be a nice thing to put Khan's voice in one of Arjen composition...

  • Oh yeah!

  • JS - It almost happened. I think Khan was supposed to appear on this one, but had to pull out due to a scheduling issue.

I'm willing to bet he was originally slated for Phideaux's part on the track with Simone.

  • yeah Simone and Khan together are awesome :)

  • Omfg I totally agree jsrockensale, Khan rules!

  • this song has such a sick sound when you're stoned outta your mind, have a really big bat and listen to this one in some studio headphones, it's positively cosmic... but then again, i am an enhancement smoker, so yeah, lol.

  • They have always had a very opera metal sound to it, but their last album was more symphonic. Most of it sounds opera-ish now. I think that the Human Equation remains Arjens Magnum Opus.

  • I love this album...

  • LMAO! This song is hilarious!

  • Ayreon is the most creative and inventive project of this century. Just love it, all, absolutely all.

  • Steve Lee!! I love Steve Lee!!Do here anybody know the band Gotthard?

    They are very great

  • Aye, their album Domino Effect wins hard.

  • Amazing song. But a correction: It's "We gave them art, what did they make?" not "We gave them armor, what did they make?" Also, "Shout out the world at their defence" doesn't sound right to me...

I love youtube for putting up this amazing music. The only song I can't find from 01011001 on youtube is E=mc^2. Well, the album version, anyway.

  • and it's suppose to be Don't want to live in a world that's dying.

I rather die in a world thats living

and i'm replying to you because i felt good about myself

  • @EnochMetatron it's shout at the world from beyond the fence

  • Lande is a god of rock, so shut up, you little retard.

  • Guys guys guys...yo mama.

  • I like it, so shut up. xD

  • Bob Catley and Jorn Lande on the same track? Amazing.

  • And let there be awesome music....and there was....and they saw that it was good....the sun rose, the sun set, the 7th day.

  • listen to the worning?

  • Steve is fucking,fucking great!!!!!

  • " We need to teach them to fight desease"

" they seem so helpless and need your expertise"

" i see them dying all acros the globe"

    <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • I like the song but it has a dark take on the future of technology. Extremely long life is going to be a problem but I don't think we will simply ignore the problems with it and destroy the Earth.

  • Jorn Lande sounds like Dio near the end of this song. I like that!

  • Yes, in metal singing with the exception of a few pioneers - many of which sing in this project - sound either like Bruce or like Dio. Its very hard to be original since those guys. One of my favourites is Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation - also in this project

  • I know Pain of Salvation and I'm glad Daniel is on Ayreon's new album. But there are still such vocalists like Steven Wilson missing. He would be a perfect singer for Ayreon because of their Pink Floyd sound.
