I understand not bringing back kicks to the head because of the perceptions from general society but the knees should come back. The biggest flaw in the unified rules and UFC in general is that it gives an advantage to most American fighters and wrestlers. Apart from uppercuts (which rarely work in this situation) and Guillotine chokes, there are very few worries for a takedown attempt.

There's no reason to bring them back. As soon as someone kicks to the head it's almost like the refs stop the fight immediately, even if the fighter down is intelligently defending himself.. What's the point of having fights stopped before they should be?

They do less damage than you think unless you got shoes on which wont be allowed. ive been soccer kicks in the face by a foot its not as bad as you think, now if the person has shoes on thats a different story. but a barefoot not so much damage, there is far more damage from elbows as in cuts and such. And way more trauma to the head caused by punches to the head and head kicks those generate more force.

@BioNickUSB I completely disagree. Bring the stomps back. You may not realize this, but that is limiting a fighter's way to win or finish a fight in a very exciting and spectacular fashion. MMA is the sport of combat, if soccer kicks were legal in the UFC, I would have loved to see how fighters evolved and found ways to defend against them or to utilize them more efficiently. Fighters like Wanderlei and Shogun are my favs because they finished fights with such brutal efficiency.

Different strategy of fight for heavy Grappler and also fight mastery can be change by the stage of fight like cage to ring. Different approach of a fight when a fighter knows those tools are available to play so no sloppy shoot tk or dragging knees tk like a josh koscheck most likely wrestler won't.

@barriocrusader i dont think an elbow can do to much damage to a fighter, is less powerfull than a punch the problem is the elbow can easily cut the skin. The muay thai knee is really brutal indeed but the problem with the soccer kicks and the stomps is that the guy in the mat doesnt really have a way to defend against it. Also when the stomp is landed the head doesnt have where to "move" it will only bounce back to get another stomp increasing the force applied to the head.
