It's such a cliche video, from the lighting cig bit at the beginning to the end. One learns nothing from Seth because he teaches nothing. Why did he bother? I guess he just wanted to see himself on You Tube. Grow up, Seth. Either learn some pedagogy or hang it up. Spare us.
I'm glad you shared this with people. Maybe more will take the plunge and give it a try. It's well worth the effort! (Had to do this in two - over 500 words ... )
Dear Seth, I enjoyed your explaination. You do very well indeed. I was one of the last three students of one of Al Capone's piano players back when I was in high school. I've been able to play all my life. I hardly practice, but just knowing stride piano techniques, how to play by ear and stay creative in the process, and a few tricks of improvisation make playing piano that sounds good as easy as riding a bicycle: it just doesn't leave you.
Damn... sorry I failed... both myspace, youtube, and my inbox have been inundated with so much spam for that it's sometimes hard to tell who is real and who's a bot. Give me another try and I'll try to help. And, if I ever get my studio back (I moved to a new house), one day, there will be MUCH more informative content.
Yah I do. I started off teaching myself a while ago and just started lessons with a jazz pianist. With sheet music I can learn most songs out there, but improv. is a lot more interesting. I can improv pretty well with my right hand, but keeping an interesting left hand is my trouble.
Either way you have definantly got some videos deserving of a lot more credit!
Hey man! Thank you so much for the kind words, but anyone can do it (and a lot of people do!). I just wanted to try to show players who have been more "classically" trained how I approach the process. Do you play?
Do I have to smoke too in order to improvise in from a lead sheet? You know....that's a problem cause I dont smoke....

i disagree with one thing in this video.
I think that the bass lines are great, sort of style i'd like to be able to play

Your Type-A high-anxiety ass sure can play.
Get off the cigs, cut down on the coffee, and you might be able to chill. haha.
Thanks for the vid.

You just expect him to jump up, grab his cigarettes and little black book and run out of the room explaining that he's being followed by the cops.
Cool Video.

Cheers!
