Oh! I was about to order this cage! Nice to see it in use, then i know what to expect of it once i get it. Looks like a great starter cage. Any tips for a soon-to-be new gerbil owner?
@daverkl I ordered this very cage today, so it'll be here sometime next week i hope. Had to order it from another country:/ Stupid country here doesn't sell anything good... At least it was cheaper that way:p If i have to get gerbils from a different country too, i'm gonna be upset.

Aww these are cuties :) I have a question, I read that gerbils, being originally desert animals, don't produce that much waste, is that true of yours?
@wibbleywobbleydeux They don't do as much as some other small animals. The big bonus with Gerbils is they only need the whole cage cleaning once a week.
If i had the money i would have got this cage but i had to get the smaller pets at home one...
With my gerbils, for all the people saying plastic is bad, its fine as long as they dont chew it so i check the wheel every day and i'll take it out if they ever start chewing!
May I suggest you cut out cardboard to cover the orange wire bit at the top? I was worried my gerbil's feet would get stuck so I cut up a cereal box and lay the cardboard down. It makes cleaning up their poop 10x easier! Happy gerbils! :)
with gerbils,can you just hold them like you would with hamstrs or would you have to keep a firm eye on them constantly because i know they are very active???where as hamsters arent that active are they?
@FroggyandIssac Gerbils are more inquisitive. You wont get one to sit in you hands for long (unless they are eating a treat). If you do put them in your hand sit on the floor with your hands cupped on your lap. They will probably start to move around straight anyway and climb over you. Just make sure you are sitting on the floor because if they do fall off your leg they wont hurt themselves.

@CharlyHbg Pets at home call it a ' Extra Large Gerbilarium' . It's large enough at 56 x 70 x 37cm. I do fill s 3rd of the way up. That was when I had just got it about a year ago.
UGGG!! I HATE THE US! haha... I wish they sold cages as great as these:( These are amazing for gerbils! Sadly I can't find any good homes for gerbils!!! I would get a tank but after adding up all the other stuff I have to get with it I misewell live on the road xD haha xD so I'm on the search for a cage with a deep pan for them to dig in! I'd rather not have bedding every where xD Oh and just to let you know I might be getting some soon!!! I'm so excited! <3
@leothegamerx There is no problem with them biting the bars. I have 3 log rolls in mine to chew on all the time now, plus toilet tubes always go in for them to chew on. I haven't owned a standard glass aquarium so can not comment which one is best. I can say though there is plenty of space for two adult gerbils
hi, where did you get the wooden house from? We got one from pets at home, but we have no floor underneath it so all the bedding falls through the wire floor. The roof on ours does not look right either. thanks
@MovieMasterAl Hi. I got it from pets at home too. I then use a bit of plane natural wood as the floor. To stick together I drilled 3 small holes in the sides and back of the house and the same for the flooring. Then I got those small wooden tubes (about 10mm long) to hold it together.
As for the roof I would just take it back and say it not right. They will swap it over.

Wow, okay, I've discovered it is the Savic Habitat XL 'Gerbilarium' Gerbil/Hamster Cage... Unfortunately I am in Canada and everything I can find is UK... cross your fingers and hope I find some good shipping, eh?
Please tell me WHERE you find these cages? What brand is it? I LOVE it! My gerbils have a basic cage and I can tell they want to climb SO BAD. I can't find ANYthing like this! Please let me know!
I really really really want to get this for my gerbils, but it is two expensive. They'd love it though. Trust me, they like their digging space. Let's just hope we get £10,000 out of nowhere.
@daverkl Freecycle . org is also a great place to find pet stuff, free. Just have to keep an eye on what comes up. I've had new Savic rat cages, tanks, aquariums, its a good place to start if cash flow is low :)

@Rhoodah I'd say leave them alone for the first 24 to 48 hours. Let them settle in.
Then love them and look after them their whole life :)

May I suggest you cut out cardboard to cover the orange wire bit at the top? I was worried my gerbil's feet would get stuck so I cut up a cereal box and lay the cardboard down. It makes cleaning up their poop 10x easier! Happy gerbils! :)

@knalan1 Not cheap like you say. Pets at home do that one for £70. I wanted to upgrade to something larger for the Gerbils.
They seem very happy. Lots of room to run, dig and play :-)
