  • Hi! I have a standard poodle about 3 years old. I just introduced him to a head collar. He keeps pawing at it and won't walk with it on. Do you have any ways to keep him from pawing at it?

    - Great vid, by the way!

    Thanks!!!

  • @elisewendelburg it takes some dogs some time to get used to it. if your dog is food motivated using a food reward helps a lot.

  • I love all your videos but this one was funny...you are so patient! Kudos to Eli and the cats for being patient too!

  • @kkg30 Thanks for watching, it does take a lot of patience to raise a puppy :)

  • My own dog, Sprite, who is eight months old, still does not know how to walk on a leash without pulling. My parents want to get a choke collar for him, which I am hugely against. I would really like to get him a head collar instead, so here is my question;

how long did it take you to get Ricki used to using the head collar?

  • Ricki is still getting used to her head collar. Some dogs take more time than others. My last puppy took to it right away, but the puppy that I had before her would refuse to walk with one so we couldn't use it. If you try a head collar on your dog make sure you understand how to use and fit it properly, give lots of praise (and treats don't hurt either) and most important be patient, it is a very different feeling to them. Good luck :)

  • @Fantasma1314 I got a head collar for my dog and he didn't seem to mind it much. All dogs are different.

  • @eagoodwin1 Ricki is getting used to it. I have had some dogs practically put their noses into the head collars themselves and others that would refuse to walk while wearing one. Every dog is different and requires training tools that are right for them.

  • How do you train a dog to come when she's distracted.

  • I love the video. I love the weekly segments. What are you currently doing for out of the house socialization? Is she going to any stores or anything like that yet, and how is that going? How are you handling that?

  • I love how the head collar works.

  • wow, i cant believe this is week 6 already! i see eli was feelin alittle jealous in the vid. :P

  • So awesome...I am just blown away by how fast she is growing!!!

  • I know I need to stop adding the "Miracle Grow" to her food :)

  • Hang in there Eli, you're still the top dog!

  • up to this point how many commands does she understand ,if any?

  • Rcki knows how to sit, stay for very short periods, move forward when asked and how to wait before getting something she wants. We are also working on her kennel command, down and staying for longer periods. She is moving right along with her commands. thanks for asking, great question :)

  • Sorry Ricki, Eli gets all 5 stars this week.

  • Really cool Ricki !

  • *Out of curiosity*

Do dogs go through a "terrible two" stage where they're always getting in trouble and testing to see how much they can get away with without being punished/corrected?

  • Dogs absolutely go through different stages just like kids. Eli is constantly testing to see what he can get away with. Ricki is still trying to figure out what is ok to do and what is not ok, give her time and I'm sure she will do some testing at some point.

  • Week 6 already??? She's gotten a lot bigger, look at the size of her feet!

  • What was your favorite thing to pry out of Ricky's mouth this week? And by "favorite," I mean the grossest.

  • so far Ricki isn't trying to eat gross things yet, it has been mostly leaves and sticks. She does love to steel the pillows off the couch though :)

  • poor Eli

  • Eli was so funny this week.
