There is absolutely nothing wrong with anything here! I'm a Multi-Engine Seaplane rated ATP and the only thing wrong is the ignorance of the photographer. What exactly was 'stupid' here??
It looks like it is the Philippine. In one video I watched it said the Hawaii is also called "Red Tail" because of the red tail. Lot of info on the tankers on the Coulson site.
sitting on a lake in the flight path of a plane that size.....id say there oars dont touch the water...i am sure the pilot wishs they werent there....
@TheBigGuyxxx First, the plane can see you. Second, you can see the plane. Third, it's not as close as it looks. Fourth, the pilot doesn't care, in fact he's probably bringing that plane in extra close so they get a show; thats is just how pilots work. Fifth, that plane probably makes a similar approach on that lake every time.
@0HippyHunter0 This link will show you why it is stupid to stand in the path of a large aircraft. It's called Wingtip Vortices. They have been known to flip cars over and send people flying hundreds of feet.
@YeagerP51 what link? I couldn't find a single instance of what you claim. if this were true then the audience at airshows would routinely be blasted with extremely strong winds, as would planes on the taxi-way.
Just for the record, I'm not Chuck. He flew a P51 in WW2 and I decided that would be an interesting user name. I tried to paste a link yesterday but couldn't make it happen. It seems to take a lifetime for replies to show up. Also, I don't know who called who stupid but it wasn't me. I try to respect everyone when I leave comments. I wish others would do the same.
@0HippyHunter0 It's ok to be at one side or the other or above a large winged aircraft but you most definatelt do not want to be behind and below them when they have passed.
@YeagerP51 Again. This just isn't true. The links you provided me say exactly what I said: small aircraft must pay very close attention to their proximity to larger aircraft, but people on the ground are perfectly safe. To bolster this point (and provide direct refutation) you can watch any of the videos of 747s landing on St. Maarten. Like: youtube.com/watch?v=zAfQwDizpRo. Those people aren't being "thrown" there are no cars "rolling". There are dozens of videos, watch them.
Those people were obviously not standing in the path of the turbulence. If a plane is in the wrong spot and can be tossed around then a human being most certainly can be. I think we are both in agreement but we may be misunderstanding each other.
@YeagerP51 No. I understand what you are trying to say. A person will experience a vortex, yes, the wind will blow around them. It will not pick them up and throw them. it won't turn over a car. A plane is suseptible because it has such large lift generating surfaces. A person, no lift generating surface. I wrote "watch them" because I knew you'd respont to just this one video; there are hundreds. people and planes in all configurations, no death.
@YeagerP51 youtube.com/watch?v=GZJc2hyymmc&NR=1 These people are directly under the plane. Directly. No death. Also: to your conspiracy video- youtube.com/watch?v=E1ESmvyAmOs&NR=1 count how long it takes for the vortex to be noticable? how long do they show in the 9/11 conspiracy video? They lie to sell videos. another youtube.com/watch?v=uy0hgG2pkUs&feature=related
@YeagerP51 Well, Chuck, Wiki doesn't say anything about Vortices killing people. Sounded made up to start with. If you're in a small plane and the Vortex is rotating faster than the roll-rate of the aircraft you are in, then you may be in trouble. But people on the ground are safe from the "silent killer" that is the wing vortex.
These guys are already helping out the fires here in Cali. It's sooo hot and dry here that the winds haven't even started. I'm sure that it will take 40 days and 40 nights of rain to get rid of this drought. If we're lucky! lol So thank you Martin Mars for being here.
lol - I think he's asking if it's the Philippine Mars or the Hawaii Mars. Those are the two survivors of the Martin Mars family of five made. Lost are the Marshall Mars, burned down on the water at Hawaii, the Marianas Mars crashing in BC in '61 and the Caroline Mars lost in a storm while dry parked in BC.
It was actually six. One was lost early on, I want to say a month after production. Five remained and went into operation. Now only two are left, and both belong to the Coulson Group as seen in the video.
Thank you. We have 1 down here in Lake Elsinore Southern Calif right now, in standby mode i guess. It flew overhead a couple of days ago. The South shore of Elsinore always has a crowd of people w/video cams when it arrives. It is a beautiful aircraft, a pretty awesome sight, & much appreciated. (We're dry as a bone right now; in peak of fire season. We're all hoping the rumors of a big El Nino are right.)
Martin Mars, originally bought by MacMillan Bloedell, transfered to private ownership, operated out of Sproat Lake (Vancouver Island) British Columbia Canada, and whored out to California for the past few years. There are 3, 2 flying, 1 parts, and one I know of that crashed after failing to dump in a canyon due to men on the ground in the 60's, pilot flew it into the ground rather than kill 16 or so ground firefighters.....great plains, gutsy pilots and crew.......
@nayr87 Yes it is Phillipine Mars. It has the white tail, Hawaii Mars has the Red Tail. As you can see from all of the other videos on youtube of Hawaii Mars.... I wonder if this is the only video on Youtube of Phillipine Mars flying? She's been stuck on land for a few years now.... still operational, but no work. :(
I agree, bring it out for the bushfire season. For some reason the emergency services won't use fixed wing water bombers here. They only use choppers which are twice as expensive and half as effective
True, but helicopters can fill up in any lake/pool that it wants. The fixed wing need 2 go 2 Port Phillip Bay or sumthing like that if it was in Victoria!
The guy who answered is referring to log fortifications from the fur trade days. A single small tower is preserved. I'm not aware of any islands being fortified during WW2.
Here's a fabulous example of how to get in the top running for the Darwin Awards... What better way to demonstrate that you're too stupid to breed than to get yourself squashed like a bug on the hull of the largest flying boat ever built??!??
Is that near chase BC?
