  • This has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. There's no princess in it, it has an antagonist who is hilarious (Madam Mim), and it's a generally fun rendition of a classic legend. And this rendition of Merlin is probably my favorite. The intro song actually makes me tear up a bit because of the great memories I have of this film. Hail to classic Disney films!

  • They don't make disney movies like this one anymore

  • @92af You don't say? today's movies are crap and they will ever be from now on.

  • Oh ! The original version is Amazing ! (i'm French) :)))

  • @toad10000000 c'est vrai que la chanson est magnifique ^^, j"adore les vieux disney. Mais j'ai jamais vu celui la

  • I'm 22, have seen countless films, but this one, this one, it captures the essence of my childhood man. The fantasy in the world, how things can be incredible. Obv. I know there aren't wizards but this movie is an inspiration!

  • The opening song was sung by folk singer Fred Darian! Makes me feel good when I hear this. Thanks for posting.

  • @fredbo1 What a lovely voice he had. Always loved this little song

  • I also wish to know who sings this and also where can I find more songs like this?

  • I can't believe no one has asked this question yet: Who sings this?

  • i miss those days so badly D: what happened?? :'(

love walt disney so much <3 :D

  • IN LOOOOOOOOOONDON TOOOOOOOOOWN! that has stayed with me always x

  • @amyandlegends Oh and they are not the same weapons even in "Le morte de Arthur" by Sir Thomas Malory.

  • @metallian84 Im pretty sure Excalibur is taken from the lady of the lake which merlin takes him to because the sword in the stone is shattered by one of the rebeling lords Pellinore thanks to Morgan le Fay. Excalibur isnt the vauable part though its the scabbard which is more important as with the scabbard who ever holds it, cant bleed ( or something immortal like that) but Morgan le Fay takes it from arthur and ironically arthur bleeds to death (or if you believe the legends to exhaustion)

  • @amyandlegends Try to google it, in most versions Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone are considered separate weapons. Anyway I'm not planning to give up my opinion :)

  • @amyandlegends Then according to most versions of the Arthurian legends :)

  • "2001-2011 This was a dark age an age without classic cartoons to watch where we are forced to watch Anime and just wish Disney would rise up again and make us come out of this dark age than maybe we wouldn't have such Narutards running around."

  • @futureanimatior Amen :)

  • @metallian84 :D

  • @metallian84 Couldn't agree more!!

  • @futureanimatior Well, until The Princess and the Frog, that movie was wonderful!

  • @futureanimatior This is a dark age for Disney of course but japanese are still producing some good stuff (not Naruto, at least for me, but there's so much more). Wish Disney will come back with its great classics, sorry but for me princess and the frog and rapunzel didn't work

  • @futureanimatior *sigh* Why can't you just accept the fact they can't always show the classics all the time. If they can't show new stuff, they can't make anymore future classics. Also, you don't like anime, then don't watch it. No one is forcing you to watch it. Even if Disney rose from this "dark age" we would still get Narutards running around. If they like Naruto, that's fine. I will agree, some Disney today is awful (Disney Channel I'm looking at you!)...

  • @futureanimatior But Disney still makes good stuff, especially with John Lasster in charge of the animation department. Just because it's modern, doesn't automatically mean it sucks. If you want to watch the classics, then buy all the DVDs of them. Don't force Disney to only show the classics because if they did, they'd get tiresome after a while. Let them make new classics and try new things.

  • @futureanimatior Here's a better story, once upon a time people like you died, and the rest of the world lived happily ever after. The end.

  • The Sword in the Stone is still a great movie

  • so cool

  • THAT was a real Disneyan cartoon movie...

  • This is how we should choose our presidents and prime ministers.

  • I love the introduction song in this movie. I wish it was longer, or that there were reprises throughout the movie.

  • England need a Miracle now.....

  • I know this intro by heart since I was 6. truly classic :))

  • chords?

  • @spokispoki I reckon its played on a lute or something -

  • @mozarttheraver123 i meant to say the chords like C G etc

  • @spokispoki Chords should be: D Bm G A, D Bm F# G, B Cm A D, (Dm)Bm Bb A. Repeat until the second G and then is D Bm A G G A D (I'm not totally sure about that part)

  • @dovrea Thank you dovrea!

  • @spokispoki one more thing: Cm is wrong. It's Em.

  • @dovrea thank's

  • @spokispoki thank you!

  • this ment king arthur back then, but means BRANDON today!!!

  • i wonder if this was true?

  • bella bella bella

  • Quanti ricordi....

  • I LOVE how in the beginning of these classic disney movies there was a book being open and a song played as the pages were flipped by.

  • Yes, those Story Books are VERY cool. I would imagine that they were only "mock-ups" with just the few pages needed to photograph - but, I wonder if those books are in a Walt Disney museum somewhere. If not, they should be!

  • Don't forget about that silk drape under it!

  • you don't know how excited i was when they did that in Enchanted...

  • ditto. I pointed that out to my mom, who was a kid when these old Disney movies came out with the story book intro. course, it just went right over her head. kinda wished the entire thing was animated as well

  • tanks for this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very good!

  • Than I think you were watching a wrong clip, "Independence Day" would be much more suitabe for you :)

  • lmao!!! who so PULLETH!!!!

  • This is still my favorite part of the movie.

  • Lol I love disneys use of books at the beginning of all the classics.

  • the good king that died is that King Richard?

  • No, Richard lived in the 12th century :) The legend of Arthur was put in the early 6th century, way before the Norman era. According to this legend Uther Pendragon was the king before Arthur. However Uther wasn't a "good" king, but it's a Disney film ;)

  • Well, that depends on what book you read. In Malory I think he was fairly okay. If you're basing him on the whole "giving up a good truce for a bit o' crumpet," c'mon, what guy wouldn't?

  • @metallian84 Well better than his predecessor, Vortigern the Usurper.

  • @Ademis no it's King Uther

  • @Ademis its king uther

  • @Ademis

Besides the fact that I don't know why Richard is considered a "good king" in the first place. In the 10 years he was King of England, he was only in the country a few months.

  • That sword is Excalibur (sp?) right?

  • Well... it's not that simple :)

According to the Arthurian legend the Sword in the stone and Excalibur are two different swords. Excalibur was given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake a bit after he pulled the 'Sword in the Stone' out of the stone.

But in the movie called 'Excalibur' the two swords are one and the same, they did not use two separate swords.

About Disney's conception, if it's just simply 'The Sword in the Stone' or it is also the Excalibur, that I really don't know :)

  • In the version I know best, Arthur broke the Sword from the Stone during the battle of the Eleven Kings, and Merlin told him where he could get a replacement.

  • @Doormaster Yes, the Lady of the lake gave him Excaliber because he broke the sword in the stone.

  • @Doormaster Well when you love a classic movie like this you really don't care what the name of the sword is or any of the real events from the movie and book :)

  • best disney movie ever.

  • I have never seen this in my life-I thinks it time 2 do just that

  • it is acctually britain is who the king will rule

  • watched this recently after about 12 years without seeing it, still love it!

  • my favorite disney movie also

  • maybe it's an irrational love, but this has always been my favorite

the opening makes me so nostalgic

  • Lot of people don't think about this movie when they think about Disney. That Sucks!!

  • My favorite Disney animated film.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this!! I love this song so much, thank you very much... :)

  • Such a beautiful song. No idea who sung this, but his voice is great.

I've always felt this movie was a bit underappreciated compared to other Disney movies

  • @EmRyo IMDB credits Fred Darian as the singer of this (beautiful) song. Written, of course, by the great Sherman Brothers.
