Why cares if this piece of junk can go a couple mph faster than a standard Veyron. It is still an uncivilized, ugly, kit car. SSC started making replica diablos. The Veyron is brilliant because it can go that fast in style. The Veyron looks great inside and out. I would rather have a $150,000 Ford GT than this pice of junk.

PS its faster than vayron, coz for the record it was driven in "optimal conditions" - in other words ordinary people wont be able to reach 410km/h, when veyron reached 408 in normal conditions.
Does anyone except jay leno actually own a ultimate aero? The are only a few videos of it and all of them are more like commercials like this. The are lots of videos of other supercars like bugatti veyron. It would be nice to see some 0-200 and 0-300 tests.
Problem is a small company like SSC doesn't not have the means to produce the number of cars that Bugatti does. Every SSC built has been sold months prior, that and it is not as well known as Bugatti. I'd love to see more videos of it given it is in fact that fastest accelerating production car on the planet.

Than, you don't have to compare it to the Bugatti Veyron because, the Veyron is built to go fast around the track. I'm so sure that this SSC is not able to go under 7.00 minutes around the Nordschliefe.

it does seem like quite the bargain, but it's built with aluminium. I am a Veyron fan myself, simply because it the ultimate GT car. On the other hand, I really do admire the fact that this car used a shorter straight than the Veyron. I say SSC should try out an all carbon fibre body and then also use the same straight the Veyron used. That is something I would love to see.
The Ultimate Aero is much faster than a Veyron, and even a Veyron SS. They've never had a road or track to prove it on... Check out a side by side comparison of bench mark times. 0-300 km/h for example: SSC Ultimate Aero (12.8 seconds) - Bugatti Veyron SS (17.1 seconds). Can't wait for the Tuatara!

@Sajedulguy You're right. The Veyron is presently the production car with the highest top speed. I was just having a little fun in pointing out the excesses they used in being number one. Personally I'd much prefer an Aero or Ferrari or something (or maybe 2 or 3) that is a real sports car rather than the battle tank super luxury car that Bugatti built.

Compared to other $650,000 cars the Aero's build quality seems pretty average, but it's hard to say for sure without tearing down those cars and examining how they were constructed. But when compared to other $650,000 it's performance is far, FAR above average.

First of all, dont get me wrong. I like this car. But does anyone actually own Ultimate Aero. There are lots videos of Veyron and Koenigsegg and other supercars. But not of Ultimate Aero. No handling tests, no speed tests, no 0-200 or 0-300 videos. Just some crappy ones that seem more like commercials.
To me, the Veyron is like the Cadillac of supercars. Expensive as hell, nice interior, heavy, big engine, expensive, status symbol, lots of bells and whistles, expensive, and can't really compete with performance cars costing much less, oh and did I mention expensive?

@sophieshimmy The Veyron is a whopping 12mph faster than the SSC but I find it pretty funny that the Americans managed to make a 256mph run in a twin turbo 6.3L V8 for about $650,000 and it took the Europeans $2,000,000, 8L, 16 cylinders, and four turbos to run 268mph. Not to mention on something other than a straight line the 4162lb Veyron is at a terrible disadvantage to the 2848lb SSC.

@Cayo255 The SSC is clearly a better PERFORMING car than the Veyron, (and it's not the only one) the only exception being the Veyron has a slightly higher top speed. That's it.
Why the Veryron fails to be a "masterpiece," in my humble opinion, is a car that is a masterpiece would be good at everything, an "uber-car" if you will. The Veyron is good in a straight line but is HEAVY, around 4000lbs and it's general performance level is that of cars costing 2/3 less. In other words, why buy it?

For example, as you said the Veyron doubles the weight of the Aero, and still its faster, not close performance on curves, but is better on a straight line

@Cayo255 Dude, just because something is crammed full of tech goodies doesn't make it the best car. Anyone can intentionally cram any car full of electronic gizmos and charge a huge price tag. That doesn't make it the best.
And you realize it's actually very hard to make a chassis light and strong. It takes more engineering skill to develop a light chassis that is strong like the SSC than it does a heavy chassis that is strong like the Veyron.

the bugatti is twice as heavier as the aero,, the aero v8 engine equals the hp of the w16 on the veyron, thats quite amazing, but even with the same hp the veyron is slightly faster while almost doubling its weight, and that small speed difference between this cars, is an ENORMOUS difference on the whole engineering of the car, due to its characteristics.

@dwmcdaniel13 As I understand it the prototype Aero was powered by a corvette engine. The later Aeros had a small block chevy based engines but the latest Aeros are powered by an SSC designed engine made out of billet aluminum unlike any GM engine I am aware of. Chevy doesn't make engines for SSC so I don't think you can give GM credit for that.

it does seem like quite the bargain, but it's built with aluminium. I am a Veyron fan myself, simply because it the ultimate GT car. On the other hand, I really do admire the fact that this car used a shorter straight than the Veyron. I say SSC should try out an all carbon fibre body and then also use the same straight the Veyron used. That is something I would love to see.

Personally I'd much prefer an Aero or Ferrari or something (or maybe 2 or 3) that is a real sports car rather than the battle tank super luxury car that Bugatti built.

Compared to other $650,000 cars the Aero's build quality seems pretty average, but it's hard to say for sure without tearing down those cars and examining how they were constructed. But when compared to other $650,000 it's performance is far, FAR above average.

The SSC weighs 2594lbs, the Veyron weighs 4400lbs.
The SSC has 1287hp, the Veyron SS has 1200.
The SSC has a drag coefficient of .35, the Veyron has .36 (when lowered)
The only reason the Veyron SS has the record is because it gets to test on VW's multi-million dollar race track with a 5 mile straight away.
The SSC tested on a real road and it only had a 2.5 mile straight away, it ran out of road, not power.

@sophieshimmy The Veyron is a whopping 12mph faster than the SSC but I find it pretty funny that the Americans managed to make a 256mph run in a twin turbo 6.3L V8 for about $650,000 and it took the Europeans $2,000,000, 8L, 16 cylinders, and four turbos to run 268mph. Not to mention on something other than a straight line the 4162lb Veyron is at a terrible disadvantage to the 2848lb SSC.

@Cayo255 The SSC is clearly a better PERFORMING car than the Veyron, (and it's not the only one) the only exception being the Veyron has a slightly higher top speed. That's it.
Why the Veryron fails to be a "masterpiece," in my humble opinion, is a car that is a masterpiece would be good at everything, an "uber-car" if you will. The Veyron is good in a straight line but is HEAVY, around 4000lbs and it's general performance level is that of cars costing 2/3 less. In other words, why buy it?

@Cayo255 Dude, just because something is crammed full of tech goodies doesn't make it the best car. Anyone can intentionally cram any car full of electronic gizmos and charge a huge price tag. That doesn't make it the best.
And you realize it's actually very hard to make a chassis light and strong. It takes more engineering skill to develop a light chassis that is strong like the SSC than it does a heavy chassis that is strong like the Veyron.

@Cayo255 Just because a car has a huge research and development budget does not make it the best car. See this is the problem. I'm judging the finished product, the actual car, against other cars and pointing out that for the price tag, it doesn't measure up.
You're looking at the process, not the actual car, and assuming that because the R&D process was perhaps the most expensive and elaborate ever for a car, that the car must be the best car in the world.

yea the shelby cobra is amazing, beautiful shape, way better than the veyron,, but all that, as you say is subjective,
the bugatti is not a racing car, as the cobra. it a super luxury sport car, thats what you are missing,, you can drive the bugatti, every day, as you can drive a camry or a malibu, because of the comfort, but still you can also drive it to ultra high speeds.

Please don't take this as an insult, but I can't help but think that if next year Ferrari or somebody comes out with a car that is 6mph faster than the Veyron, has 20 cylinders, 5 turbos, a lazer gun mounted on the roof, and comes standard with ejection seats made from endanger baby seal hide that you'll be here telling someone its the best car in the world. :)

the bugatti is twice as heavier as the aero,, the aero v8 engine equals the hp of the w16 on the veyron, thats quite amazing, but even with the same hp the veyron is slightly faster while almost doubling its weight, and that small speed difference between this cars, is an ENORMOUS difference on the whole engineering of the car, due to its characteristics.

@Warblade118 the veyron is not an street racing car, it is easy to drive and can be driven every day as any other car,in other words, the bugatti its like a super fast rolls royce, and i dont know the ssc very well, but i dont think it is easy to drive, and im pretty sure its not comfortable enough to use it every day,,,
and i remark, it is not that bad on curves, it can easly fight and even beat any ferrari, lambo, porsche,, and many other super cars around any circuit,

The Veyron is like the world's biggest, most powerful, technologically sophisticated, fanciest, most well put together, best engineered air plane that can't fly.
The SSC, Ferrari, Porshe etc are streamlined, high performance jet fighters by comparison (that are also cheaper) So why the hell would anyone buy a Veryron? How can it be the best when it can't even do what a supercar is supposed to do?

@Warblade118 first off its the veyron super sport which is faster than the aero, second its 16.4 L 16 cyclinders, third its got driver aids like a massive airbrake on the back, fourth the veyron is has luxury where the aero is pretty much a kit car, a massive petrol heads car as such, fifth the aero is suicidal even the original test driver scheduled to do the record breaking run was too scared to drive it where as james may can drive the veyron with ease.

@dwmcdaniel13 As I understand it the prototype Aero was powered by a corvette engine. The later Aeros had a small block chevy based engines but the latest Aeros are powered by an SSC designed engine made out of billet aluminum unlike any GM engine I am aware of. Chevy doesn't make engines for SSC so I don't think you can give GM credit for that.

When you take into consideration that SSC is a comparatively tiny company that just started and Bugatti is part of a huge cooperation that's been around for along time I think the answer as to why one sold more than the other should be obvious, even to you.
