  • yeah. i read that your only supposed to do 16 hour fasts after an 8 hour eating period. so, you were obviously mis-informed

  • Shame, you were right on the cusp of it getting much easier. The fist day or two is not bad.. but.. The end of the 1st week is brutal. It starts getting much easier after that by the end of the 2nd week your hunger pains are non-existant and meal size returns to normal.

it also takes about 2 weeks to really start showing weight loss. Why, water retention is common for a few days + weight loss from fat burn is NOT instant. It usually shows on the tape measure before it shows on the scale.

  • I'm guessing your problem was either that you weren't eating enough on the eating days, or you were doing too much carbs and getting into the blood sugar yo-yo. I've been doing alternate day fasting for about 6 weeks now, and I love it. I get hungry about 3 hours before the end of my fasts, but I can deal with hunger for 3 hours 3 times a week. I'm running around 25% protein calories, 5% carb, and 70% fat. I get ~4000 cals on my eating days, and I'm losing ~1.7 lb per week.

  • There's also the warrior diet which is a more tolerable form of IF.Give it a look, but you don't lose more than 2 pounds a week.

  • You may find intermittent fasting easily tolerated once you've depleted your glycogen stores on a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet (e.g., Barry Groves' diet, 70/20/10 fat/protein/carb distribution) for 2 weeks or more first.

Then fast on a 3-day cycle: day 1, cut carbs very low (20-30 g); day 2, fast (water & noncaloric liquids only); day 3, resume eating with lighter intake at first, and hold carbs to 60 g.

Glycogen depletion and low carb intake may let you largely avoid hunger.

  • I've been doing IF for over a month and the first couple of weeks are the hardest. I would only do the 24-hr fast 2x a week, I don't think it's recommended more than twice a week. I also am now doing another variation of IF in which I allow myself to have a 5-8 hours eating window daily, then fast until the next day. It's a lot easier and you still can get results, without going all day without eating.

  • I was doing this and had good results, but I recently found out i had diabetes so I figured it was better to just reduce calories and eat every day a low glycemic diet like this guy.Instead of big spikes and lows in glucose.

  • You were probably eating like a pig on the days when you could eat.

  • Hm, what you did was fasting, not intermittent fasting.

Ussually intermittent fasting refers much easier versions... Such as only doing 1-2 days of fasting a week, like 4PM to 4PM the next day.

  • Give me an example of what your daily diet was like, it does not sound normal for it to hurt.

24 hours on 24 hours off food is not a good way to do it in my opinion, I would wake up and fast until about 3 o clock in the afternoon.

Also, you need to be doing some sort of cardio-vascular exercise and weight training for it to be effective, if your doing 0 cardio

or weights then no wonder your not seeing anything happen.

Also, what are you eating when you break the fast?

  • You have to drink a lot of water to keep from getting so hungry.

  • Problem was for me when I was doing IF was that I would be so hungry I would eat like there was no Tm! I actually gained a LB or 2 doing it.

  • That might be a little more tolerable.
