This is a really great tutorial. I've been somewhat successful trying to follow along but one problem I have it that I'm using Photoshop 7. Would you happen to have these instructions for Photoshop 7 or 6?
Thanks for the tutorial, but you go too quickly from place to place without describing what you are doing. For instance you say 'now lets add some blending options'... but you don't actually tell people how to get to the blending options area....
The last part of the tut almost made my skin crawl. NEVER slice the images and save to HTML. PS saves the HTML in tables, tables should only be used for tables! Slice the images (if you must), then code it with valid HTML and CSS!
What I am saying is, if you're trying to teach beginners, why teach them a way that they're going to have to re-learn it?
I've seen this way too many times before, beginners teaching beginners...
@GreenyFool You favorite a bunch of videos without contributing anything and then go around leaving worthless comments, You are the kind of scum that makes MY skin crawl...
Oh I'm sorry did I miss the rule on YouTube registration that says you must upload videos of your own before leaving constructive criticism on other peoples videos? Here I was thinking my four years experience in web design entitled me to advise beginners. As I said, you'll only have to re-learn it the proper way if you ever want to start out in professional web design. So the video is pointless.
PS: I might actually make a tutorial on coding a web page the proper way if I get the time. ^_^
WOW! What a decent answer, I have a problem, and according to your objection, you may just be the one I'm looking for. So, I have a Blog, powered by BLOGGER, and I made a navigation bar, not following this tutorial though. And I sliced the image, and saved it as a HTML, and took the code, Copy and Pasted it and added it to my Blog. May sound funny, but, I don't know why only the HYPERLINKS show up and not the Image that I sliced with? Want to give me insight?
I've never used Blogger, but it looks like they provide the script and themes, and you just manage the content. If that's the case then you probably cannot edit HTML or upload an image directory. If HTML edits are allowed you could upload the images elsewhere online and change the image path in img src="here".
@BSAnimator you simply have to point the link to the proper place for the image on your computer, in the html. you know the < a href stuff you should know about?
@emanations I'm sorry you feel like I am being a "jerk." I am simply stating, if you learn from this video aspiring to become an actual professional web designer, you will only have to re-learn it the proper way! There are plenty of correct videos on YouTube already without the need for me to make some, it's just finding them that's the hard part.
@GreenyFool Oh, OK. Not really my business anyway. I just think the same criticism could have been given in a less abrasive manner. I would like to become a professional web designer. I'm fascinated by people who offer knowledge for free, who take the time and effort to even upload these videos. It's pretty cool. Anyhow, I shouldn't get all pissy over someone elses comments, anyhow.
The navigation bar background gradient differs way too much, the shadow on the text should be set at 90 degrees with Global Light OFF, I also recommend making it a white shadow with 1px distance, 0 everything else (lower the opacity), and the separator would be done much easier by making a selection with the marquee tool then filling it with colour.
I have a querie, My template looks fine just as it should when viewed in the Internet Explorer browser, however when i view the same template in Firefox small white gaps appear between two of my splices.
Do you have any ideas on why Firefox is doing this when IE is not.
Please respond.
Thank you for great tutorials, you have been a massive help.
To select the layers u want to align just select the first layer then press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and select the other layer. So now both layers should be high lighted. Hope that helps. Have fun...

this happened to me, the way i got around it was not to slice it but import everything seperately into dreamweaver, hope this helps :)

also you may look for 2 lines of php script which i don;t remember. Those 2 lines command IE to obey the same rules as Firefox.
