fried rice is a food genre rather than a dish, thus your preferences of seasonings if it works well for you than thats the way to go.
personally i might would use your suggestion in pork or chicken fried rice where a deeper color of rice is appropriate, for crab though i still prefer light color and seasoning.

Jasmine rice is also an excellent white rice and can safely be interchanged with white Basmati.
Jasmine rice is grown in Thailand and my recommendation was directed for those who lives out side the kingdom...I should have been more precise..thanks for the comment!
